*** Elden Ring ***

The one you access via the bridge.

Sorry I forgot to respond. Assuming you haven't beaten him already.
I think he was the one who spawns two guards and uses ice and lightening.

I took out the right guard (when you enter the room) that spawns first (I think he moved faster than the left guy and hand some crazy attack patterns). If you're fast enough you can get a few hits as soon as he spawns in. I would then move backwards to the back right of the arena. This is to avoid them overlapping each other in the centre. Once he's dead I take out the final guard that spawns. If you need to take your time to separate him from the commander then do so. The guards move faster than he does and from memory, he doesn't really attack you he just buffs them, so just walk to the otherside of the arena and wait for the guard to come to you.

For the commander, I had fast attacking weapons so between the swings of the banner, I could land a single hit then dodge roll and attack again. You may need to wait for a bigger opening than me. If you are close to him watch out for his little behind the back jab. He usually does this near the end of the combo.
His jumping lightening kick has a bit of a delay but can easily be dodged.
If he decides to show you his skating routine for the winter olympics, if you mange to dodge or block successfully he leaves a large window for you to attack.
If he summons a blizzard just back away, you may need to block the shockwaves he sends out.

Finally got round to playing this.

2 things have surprised me so.
How bright and colourful the world is for a Dark Souls game.
How well it runs on my old graphics card.

Trying to play without using a guide or wiki, but had to use a wiki to find out where the **** I was after a chest teleported me to a hell hole.

Also more bull****!

I spent ages trying to figure out how to get to a cellar staircase, but the walls were too high to jump, so I ran around whacking at all the walls hoping that I would find a hidden entrance.
No one told me the mount could double jump!

As long as you don't want to play online as this turn off the EAC.

Highly recommended ^

You can unlock higher frame rates, which just turns the game into a silky smooth play.

Being an old school gamer, having the game offline means all those hints and 'cheats' disappear...Ya know so I can actually play the game myself and enjoy the discovery aspect... which usually ends in death :D

And you also have the option of not losing your runes on death, very handy at times.

I finished the game a while back, and was amazed at how it drew me in and made me work, while still being fun, and enjoying the level of attention to detail and love that went into it... Resulted in over 300hrs which is extraordinary for me.

So after 80 hours of playing this game, I have discovered that I can open the map while sitting at the grace. I just assumed since you can't open the inventory in that screen you can't use the map.

Update on my progress, I have cleared up most of the mountaintop of the giants area, the only thing left is a few quests and 2x night cavalries.
I have beaten Mohg, Lord of Blood. Quite interesting as a bleed build since he gets a 20% damage buff everytime someone bleeds. I got the talisman so I also got that buff.
I have beaten Loretta at the Haligtree but I haven't moved past her grace yet.
I have committed the cardinal sin and I am now wondering down tornado alley.

I am level 147, and I am debating heading for Malenia, because I'm a masochist :D. I also want the hand of melania.

I mainly used a map for finding the last few dungeons/bosses in an area and figuring out what to do and where to go in a quest (I don't think you can complete the quests without a guide, or maybe I wasn't paying attention enough).

You're strong enough for any boss really. The big "bois" are the only way to level up quickly at this stage. When I ran out of bosses I ran out of motivation. So go boss hunting

Tldr: just flippin do it.

Honestly, I don't know how anyone can 100% a Dark Souls game without looking online for help. Some of the **** you need to do puts the old Lucasart point and click games to shame!

Made it into Stormveil Castle and I'm having a blast.
All this open world stuff is nice, but you can't beat a good castle. ;)

Hi guys,

Finally got around to mopping up one or two games in my backlog and today I thought I'd start Elden Ring...

On Steam, I'm get this:

Windows 11 and everything else plays fine.

Any ideas? - I'm guessing I'm not the first to get this message.

Do a game file integrity check on steam
First thing I tried :D

Didn't fix it. I've posted on the Steam forums and it looks like it's a Windows 11 thing - apparently disabling "kernel mode hardware enforced stack protection in windows security" is the answer, although I'm a bit reluctant to try it if I'm honest. Probably just going to have to wait for a legit fix.

Can confirm this works anyway, playing now. No issue.

I'm just over 40 hours in and I'm afraid to say, I'm getting a bit bored.

I love the combat and gameplay, classic Dark Souls, but I think I've had enough of exploring the open world. I've half tempted to load up a map or some good to show me where all the castles/dungeons are, the stuff I enjoy.

Another slight problem is that I'm struggling for a challange at the moment, this isn't too brag, it's just that I got lost, wandered into an area I wasn't supposed to be and believed I had to "git good".
I struggled, cried and farmed to level up my character and weapons, then continued on until I hit a boss that was 2 shotting me and all I was doing was scratching his armour. Realising I was was in over my head I decided to go north of Stormveil castle and hit Raya Lucaria Academy and basically 1 shot everything in there.

You're not struggling for a challenge, you're avoiding the challenge?

As much as this is a fantastic game, I'd say it's a bit too big for its own good.

I mean, there are huge secret locations hidden behind long questlines with npcs that many players won't even get to see for obvious reasons. One particular quest takes you on a big trip and into places not normally accessible and changes the ending. I'm actually curious how many people reached places like Haligtree without checking, and there's more of that.

It's sometimes all too well hidden and a lot to take in a world with such topography, no markers and the game actively playing with you by sometimes not putting anything significant in places where you'd expect to find something.

Same with side dungeons that appear to be like Chalice dungeons but they get increasingly more complex and introduce some weird stuff later on.

As an example of scale, there's a massive area hidden within one of the main locations that's a goddamn labirynth with enemies that'll spank you at level 100+. Heck, even Stormveil has two hidden areas with bosses:P

It's impressive but also a double-edged sword as it's easy to get carried away and overexplore, which you did. Ray Lucaria should've been the second place you visited.

They designed it like that so that people get a different experience as you're not supposed to see everything and exploring is never forced upon you. However, many people will want too see as much as possible and will get exhausted and/or overelevelled.

It's still probably the best and most thought-out open world in years but it could've been smaller and with so many unique bosses and standard enemies, there'd be no need to introduce those recycled variations or gank fights later on.

I'd just press on with main locations, just follow the grace trails, I think you'll stumble upon enough secrets along the way.

I’m massively late to this game; I put it off as I never really got into their previous games and all I heard about was how punishing it was. As it turns out i’m really enjoying it; a good fun open game; I particularly liked early game exploring places I had no right to be and finding cool stuff and getting my are kicked

I’ve ended up following a rough guide which is good in some ways (I have massive FOMO) but it has taken some of the shine off it to be honest. Now I just use it for general directions / ensuring I know what I should be getting out of areas. Some of the quest-lines are just bonkers on how to progress them, like having to reload areas to progress conversations which I don’t really see the point of.

I’ve also had a few bugs in secondary quests / bosses. But other than that the gaming experience is superb and I’m genuinely looking forward to replaying it, which is a first for me.

Did anyone completely respec mid / late game? I’m thinking of changing my character; can always change it back again?

I generally find with rpg’s that I do every sidequest and end up massively overpowered, like in Skyrim the last bosses I just walked up to and hit a few times; so I like that this has felt nicely balanced throughout.

Sounds like there will be some DLC soon, and I should get to finish it and maybe get some way though a 2nd (3rd? ) play through before that comes.

I reinstalled the game recently and when I boot it up it gets stuck on a white screen. So after originally putting in 200 hours playing the game, I can no longer play it
