Had a session at the range tonight and had a work colleague and got him to record my swing. Having seen it, I'm a little concerned. As you can see, I don't complete a full back swing. The end result of where the ball was landing was great, distance maintained etc, but to me it looks so lazy.

Is this likely to affect my game? I know McDowell has a very short swing.

I've got a lesson Thursday where I'm pretty sure he is going to be unhappy with me for this new habit :p

most pro's will tell people who are starting off to shorten backswing + slow it down.

could try rotating shoulders a bit more and slowing down .

I was always of the understanding that the loft doesn't define the club, and that in the Rocketbladez example the stronger loft is to stop the ball ballooning in the air which it otherwise would, something about a lower centre of gravity on the club.

The consensus so far is that people hitting a 6 iron with these clubs see the ball fly higher than their current 6 iron, despite the Rocketbladez having the stronger loft.

I'm no expert though, I'm sure someone on here will correct me or explain properly how it works :p

Here you go, here is a video to explain it:

Loft = important, otherwise you can take a 6 iron, stamp it as a PW and then shout "look at our PW, it goes farther than XXX's 7 iron, buy them, they are amazing"

His videos are pretty spot in in general, I have subscribed on youtubes.

I wondered about Ashbury Manor too, whether it is maybe too many courses at one location so the green staff get spread about a bit too thin, or if they have enough to make it a decent knock.

Just trying to sort out my corporate invites for this year, think i'm going to push for Woburn and Close House, just need to pick which supplier i want to take me! :D

Stayed at Ashbury and The Manor a couple of times, they have 7 courses, the best course is Kigbeare closely followed by Pines and Forest, you WILL need a buggy as the distance between tees is massive, especially on Kigbeare
I've always found the courses to be in decent condition considering the traffic they get.
You can go and play Okehampton GC for a reduced rate if you have time (nice course).
The rooms are quite small especially if you've gone for the triples :)
Food is good at Ashbury and plenty of it, night life is limited, quite pricey and they are sticklers for closing on time. You can always go into Okehampton, there isn't a lot going on but there are a few pubs and a nightclub.
Plenty to do in the hotels, take your snooker cue they have lots of tables, plus there is indoor bowls which is a laugh especially after a few pints :)

i've had good reviews from friends who've been regarding the courses. I too was wondering if the green keepers would be able to manage all of the courses but apparently they do a very good job.

we've payed £194 each to stay at the Ashbury which includes free unlimited golf, free buggies and free range balls. It's also full board so is fantastic value for two nights.

booked up our tee times too.
Friday 12:15pm Oakwood (short course so will get another 9 in before we go in for a beer)
Saturday 08:15 Kigbeare
Saturday 14:14 Pines/Forrest
Sunday 10:15 Beaches

I didn't until my Ping G20 shaft snapped at the range tonight :-( Going to get it repaired as I couldn't bear buying a new one having just replaced my irons!

I like the look of the Nike driver I must say.

Someone's picture is too big!!!!!!!

I'm 5 minutes from Woburn and I've still never played there :(

Well, I've now had two lessons this year - the first lessons I've had in more than a decade.

Generally not too terrible (grip/stance OK) but my legs move too much which causes the left elbow to chickenwing causing an overswing, followed by casting to get back to the ball.

Changes have been to quieten the legs, which reduces the chickenwing, preventing the overswing and then delaying the hands to improve the strike.

With little opportunity to practise any of it, I'm really pleased with how much better it feels and as a result of the changes, the general pulling slightly left has gone, the flight is neutral and much more consistent.

Two more lessons to go and very interested to see what's next.

Why are we not surprised!

It's prime weather for golf! The greens are waterlogged and the fairway is a soggy lake, brilliant extreme golfing!

Too used to the mild winters we had through the noughties I guess :p

As much as I enjoy whacking hundreds of balls at the range there's nothing like getting out on the course, soggy or otherwise.

Well at least we've had a good weekend of weather this week! Macclesfield course was nice and dry thankfully and I was able to have my best round to date.

I still don't have my driver so I was using my 3 wood off the tee but was so much more consistent with it. Shot an 85 (handicap is 16 but my view is I should be 18-19) and that included a couple of duffed approach and chip shots and a 3 off the tee on the 15th.

Couldn't have been happier with my striking of the ball for the most part with my Rocketbladez irons. Feel like I'm really starting to dial in with them now and yesterday was just a pleasure :)

Played this weekend. Really enjoyed it for the first time in a while. Have been really struggling with the driver and long irons (to the point where the best i played a 500yd Par 5 was to take 3 x 8 irons and a pitching wedge!) but my short irons were going great guns. Had a lesson a couple of weeks ago and my mate instantly picked up on me loading my left side and also being very steep into the ball. An hour later all was going great, couple of drills to practice which i worked on.

Then out on the course on sunday it all clicked, driving was going great (a bit too good on some holes as i ran out of fairway and into the trees - needed a more aggresive 'Tiger' line! :D) hit some lovely approach shots with one 10ft back spinner that hit the flag and just stayed out. Putting was a bit poor, but the greens had been hammered with the footfall of every man and his dog getting out for the first decent days golfing in a while. A nice mid 80's round, which should have been more of a high 70's but a double at the first and a triple at the SI1 hole after being greenside in two put paid to any kind of decent round.

Able to get a round under my belt today which is the first I've managed in two months because of the weather.
My game today was a little worse for wear, but since I have been leaving my driver in the bag and used my 3 wood instead my tee shots have become far more consistent. Hopefully the weather will remain more favourable in the coming months.

Managed a paltry 32 points in Saturdays medal stableford @ Worlebury (14 out 18 in), putting was awful, even managed to 4 putt on the par 3 6th, on in one and walked off with a 5 lol
Played Weston on Sunday and managed a more respectable 85 gross in windy conditions, Weston is much more open so i can get away with my wayward tee shots :D

Need more practice before Portugal at the end of April !! 7nights, 7 rounds including San Lorenzo, Laranjal and the mighty Monte Rei, gonna be awesome :)
