What are most people using here Bag wise? I am currently using an old beat up stand bag and I am planning on a new one for christmas but not sure between stand and cart!

For the moment I use an old Srixon bag but recently bought a Taylormade tour bag. I'll dust it off for use once my handicap reach the teens.

I'm in the same boat, want a Callaway bag for Christmas but not sure which one to go for (I'm just a Callaway whore tbh)

I think it depends how you get around.
For example at my parents place in Florida I have set and only use a tour bag as we never walk but here I have a lightweight carry bag with two shoulder straps and a built in stand.
I wouldn't want to walk a round with the tour bag but the carry bag can strap on the back of a buggy if I happen to use one that day.

Mine are the Ping Hoofer 14 and Ping Tour Staff (Ping fan boy ;)), both have 14 way dividers which I really like as it makes keeping the bag tidy and easier to get the clubs in an out.

Dont believe in being able to walk 3 miles and not be able to carry so its a stand bag for me.
Bought this at the start of the year and is surprisingly roomy yet very light.

I've got a beat-up old Dunlop bag. It looks awful and the stand is bent so it won't stand up properly! I'm looking to get a new bag too. I've got Mizuno irons so I'll probably get a Mizuno bag to match, though I'm seriously tempted by a Sun Mountain bag. They look really well made and the idea of having a waterproof golf bag is very appealing.

Oh yeah and for anyone thinking of getting lessons, make sure the pro you get lessons with uses a launch monitor. That way, they can see exact figures for angle of attack, club path, face angle, launch angle, spin rate, etc. If you're really looking to improve, it's the best way forward.

I'll ask mine tomorrow as I have my first lesson with him, thanks :)

I've just got back from the range to see how I'll be tomorrow and I was hitting so much better than I was on Sunday - don't understand this silly game sometimes...

It's not necessarily about not being able to carry the bag. Sometimes its good to conserve energy for your shots.

Has anyone got the Hole 19 app for iPhone? It's awesome! GPS, score and stats tracking. Check it out, it's free.

Also, anyone fancy Speed Golf? I'd love to give it a go but can't see it being well received at my local courses.

Edit: Just seen this video of Jason Palmer, a pro who chips one handed. Amazing!

I'm a complete beginner, the job I do means I'll be expected to play the odd round of golf with customers so I really should learn so I can enjoy it instead of avoiding it.

Would a few lessons with a pro be the ideal starter point? Practice on a driving range till I can hit properly? and could anybody recommend a suitable set for beginner, I'd be happy to pick these up second hand till I've improved.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Lessons would be a great place to start to ensure you learn properly rather than develop your own swing and get into bad habits - not saying this will definitely happen but it's best to get it right from the beginning.

I'd probs advise picking up a second hand set in reasonable condition (ensure the woods don't have steel shafts otherwise you'll find things are more difficult!)

I've just had my first lesson and my swing has been changed quite a lot; I was originally lifting the club quite high on my back swing (sort of above my neck/head) and coming through the ball which was resulting the fade.
The lesson was great as the pro got me to swing further round in my backswing and cut across my chest rather than lift.
Got to start putting it into practice now!

Yeah I'd advise lessons too like Maccy said. I'm actually an example of someone who started off simply playing rather than having lessons, because when I started I couldn't afford both so had to choose. I've since had lessons after struggling with bringing my handicap down and it's made a big difference. The best analogy I can give is learning to drive. You could learn to drive just with your parents, but you're likely to pick up some of their bad habits, whereas a driving instructor will hopefully teach you the right way to drive.

I think I've decided on a new golf bag. I'm looking at either the Sun Mountain H2NO:

Or the new Mizuno Tour stand bag:

The mizuno is nice but dont be paying that much for it. No stand bag is worth more than 60-70 quid tops. Sun mountain peice is a joke, they are no better than the titleist/mizuno/other stand bags.

I was just going to say, that Sun Mountain is way too much. Even Callaway bags are around £100 and they're usually expensive!

I would personally go for the Taylormade just because of the dividers, I'm struggling with my bag at the mo because whilst it has 4 dividers, they're not full length. Callaway for me for Christmad hopefully!

Do you guys think there's any difference between 'big name' golf clubs? I play with an old Srixon set and while it's serving it purpose just fine right now with regards to my skill level, I am on the lookout for a decent set. I'm quite partial to Taylormade but could really be convinced to go Ping/Callaway/Nike/Mizuno etc.
