Golf Thread

no golf here either for past 2 weeks so up the range today to hit 100 balls.
Considering I hadn't hit a ball in 2 weeks and suffering with golfers elbow in my left arm I was striking the ball well.

Got the GF to pick out random spots on the range and only when I hit within approx 5 yards was she happy with this. Maximum 3 shots each time before hitting the marker. Gave me a bit more focus rather than smashing balls up the range.

Obviously the last marker was the 250 board. Not the net but I had to hit the board
So with 15 balls which I had left I smacked it with my 8th ball. Then for fun with the remaining, my target was the net sitting approx 260 yards.
Last 3 balls each one hit it
Not bad for winter range balls

nice man. How much for members guests ;)

Well, got a booked appointment tomorrow morning at American golf to have a look at a utility/ driving iron to fill up that slot that is empty in my bag..

then hopefully to the range on the way back, but not guaranteed :(

Ohh the irony..

i picked up a regular flex util, did t think about it, but when I got home and gave her a once over I noticed…silly me!

anyway, I phoned AG and the boy was super helpful, phoned me back saying they have ordered one from Livingston branch (where I used to live) and we are head8ng down Thursday to visit relatives, so I asked the boy if it’s ok to take my util down on thursday and swap out, rather than shipping up and head into town again. Not an issue!

that aside, it’s a great looking club and inspires confidence, I went for the 3 iron, which does have an adjustable head, to 2,3 and 4 setting.

and for the money side of things..at £109, a steal tbh!

Managed to get out this morning. Tees well forward, full greens however. Not bad after 5 weeks away from the course.

Birdied 1st & 6th. Solid enough otherwise.

Nearly off to the pub after my tee shot at 14th. 240yard downhill /down wind. Hit 23 degree hybird to 6 inches..... We all thought it was in at first as couldn't see it as it was right behind the flag stick.... Would have been nice but a simple tap in eagle.

I picked up my Cobra Utility iron yesterday when down town..one thing was being a steel shaft, it took a gander on eBay to see if I could try similar, and found a brand new Cobra utility, same standard loft (19.5, both adjustable which is great) and the "modern" one with steel and the "graphite"..

so im going to the range over the weekend, get the swing going and seeing what will go in the bag, steel vs. graphite..

I paid £109 for the steel utility and about £91 for the graphite one..

I know its not apples to apples but the rough specs are pretty close.. and for the money, can't beat them either way!!

I will report back with my findings once I have given them a good go, and then that will be my 14 club limit reached!

I am finally getting out again today. Weather has been dire! Course closures galore. Watching the Rick Shiels v Bryson DeChambeau video currently, really getting me in the mood to go play.

Out today - Nice to have a knock around again - very windy.

Couple of birdies, not much else to shout about. 74 gross. Still nice to be hitting a ball this close to Xmas.

not long back from the range, hit a few wedges and then just the 8 iron, and I must say when I hit them well they felt glorious..

I just need to bare in mind, its winter, its range balls and its fairly steep uphill, so can't fully 100% judge my distances yet.

one weird thing was my MLM2 Pro, on Awesome Golf it seemed to struggle to pick up the ball flight, but when I went back to Rapsodo Range, it was damn close, confused to say the least..

Does anyone know the best place in the Aberdeen area to adjust club loft?

just comparing lofts from my D9 irons to the 923, and I’m losing probably 5-10 yards because of this.

Does anyone play in prescription glasses? If so, do you just use normal ones or the ones tailor made for golf? Back when I used to play a few years ago I used contact lenses but I can't use them anymore and I'm having trouble adjusting to playing while wearing glasses

Glasses are a struggle. Varifocals allow me to "see" including the scorecard but I'm certain my green reading has suffered. As I stand over the ball and look along my target line it feels that there is some distortion. Using distance glasses only seems better but I can't read the scorecard

I have prescription glasses, but as I got them for golf they are “sport” glasses.

I've got normal glasses, I'm short sighted but not by much (-1.0 in each eye), never had a problem with wearing them but also never played golf without them so don't know any difference :p

man, i notice night and day differences when i have mine on and off. bigtime!

Got out this morning for the first time in ages (since Oct 15th to be exact), after sniping a cancelled tee time when I got up this morning! Expected the course to be packed given the supposedly full tee sheet, teed off at 09:42, but I guess there must have been plenty out xmas shopping instead as it was relatively quiet. Didn't have to wait once, the pair in front of me remained a hole ahead throughout.

As expected ball striking was extremely mixed :p No getting away with anything when the ground is soft. Saying that tee boxes and fairways were all good, no plugged balls. Greens were excellent, rolling beautifully. Just the rough, those walks between green to the next tee box and tee to fairway where it was boggy. Hopefully we keep the largely dry weather we've had down here over the past week. Skies were overcast with temperature just into double figures so aside from my waterproof trousers I was able to get away with a thermal top as under layer with tee shirt over. Don't like wearing too much and having it impair my swing. As I didn't have any waiting around stayed nice and warm :)

Only downside today was having to clean my clubs when I got back.
