I got an email yesterday to say the course was gonna be closed, they posted yesterday morning a shot with a lot of snow over the ground and then emailed everyone with bookings yesterday that it had thawed but the course was 'basically under water'... :(

Forecast for the next week or so looks reasonably nice though, fingers crossed March is a whole lot drier than February, that was just silly.

I think my wife has been praying for dry weather. She used to binge watching TV Saturday and Sundays mornings.

Spent a few hours re-gripping most of my clubs today. Spent a small fortune on AdoreGolfGrips website.

Driver and woods have MCC Teams Black/Gold
icrossover has Black/Baby blue/White
Irons have Black/Green/Gold
Wedges have Black/Dark blue/Gold

Putter still has the standard Super Stroke Pistola 1.0 TaylorMade grip.

I have a peculiar way of doing my tape, I play right handed but use 8 wraps on my right hand and 4 on my left using standard sized grips. I don't like the "tapered" feeling and prefer the uniformed feel.

Cant wait to get out Wednesday! Weathers supposed to be "okay" but who cares I need to get out!

Hybrid being delivered today - had another swing of @Maccy 's Ping 4 hybrid last week - despite it being a regular shaft, it was ridiculously easy to hit. Potentially could replace the 2 iron in my bag, as I struggle for consistency with that.

Out of curiosity but have you looked at the GolfPride MCC+4 grips? Seems like they do something similar to what you're talking about with the extra tape/getting rid of the taper?

I've got them on my clubs, seem fine, admittedly I only went for them cause they had an Orange SKU :p

Nah, Fairway Woods > Hybrids :p

Agree for the most part. I prefer a 5 wood in almost every instance you'd be using a hybrid except when it's out of the rough or it's too windy. I got rid of my 4 hybrid a few months ago but ironically it's the club I've wanted to use most in this weather. I love my 5 wood, but it balloons something rotten at times and I can't get it through the wind this time of year.

Yeah, that is the downside :p

Got both a 5 wood and a 3 hybrid in the bag, they kinda go similar distances (in spring/summer at least) but in different ways, the 5 wood carries a good 10+ yards more but doesn't roll as much, but like you say that higher ball flight into wind isn't pretty at times :p Of course if you're hitting downwind... :D

But at address and in general I much prefer the look and feel of a fairway wood, kinda wondering on a 7 wood even, especially as to how it would be out of the rough to potentially replace the hybrid.

My brother carries 3, 5 and 7 woods then 4 iron with frustratingly accurate gapping. He's much better then me though. He can play this wizard shot with any wood where he almost hoods the face and gets on top of the ball for this mid flighted bullet that carries miles, almost like how you'd hit driver off the deck. You could give me a year to master that shot and I'd probably never get it right... He's one of the most complete golfers from distance I've ever played with. The irony is his short game is absolutely appalling. He's still never broken 90 because of how poor his chipping is but flat out refuses to get a lesson. Fool.

I used to use them but they feel a bit spongy to me, I prefer the more taught feeling of the extra layers.

It's hard to explain but it's what a mate did for me once and I've never gone back.

Did a lesson today, was awful. So less said about that the better. Hit some balls after and tried to just use fairway woods and long irons to learn a bit more about my gapping at that end of the bag.

I struggle with consistency on the 3w and I think I will drop it, same with 4i and 5i. I feel relatively comfortable with the 4w, 4hybrid and 7w. So I am potentially looking at another hybrid to fit in there somewhere.

Go out with 3 clubs and a putter and see how creative you can be. I generally score the same as playing with a full set.
Although in a club comp I did once grab three clubs from the bag very early in the morning. I thought I got a 7 iron, pw and 3 wood. What I actually got was a 3 wood, pw and sand wedge.

Been going through TopTracer stats and I think this is roughly where my gapping is at the minute, Still working on consistency with these of course but flicking through the last two sessions this is my avg total distance for each club.

Driver - 226yrds and 224yrds
3w - 204yrds and 196yrds
4w - 200yrds and 176yrds
7w - 180yrds and 175yrds
4hi - 178yrds and 156yrds
4i - 167yrds and 154yrds
5i - 173yrds and 129yrds
6i - 187yrds and 160yrds.
7i - 145yrds and 155yrds
8i - 129yrds and 145yrds
9i - 119yds and 118yrds
PW - 101yrds and 106yrds

Flat Carry Averages;
Driver - 209yrds and 201yrds
3w - 183rds and 170yrds
4w - 175yrds and 163yrds
7w - 135yrds and 165yrds
4hi - 157yrds and 127yrds
4i - 157yrds and 135yrds
5i - 161yrds and 110yrds
6i - 174yrds
7i - 138yrds and 143yrds
8i - 124yrds and 140yrds
9i - 99yrds and 115yrds

Most recent session first. In between these sessions I have changed my clubs to a heavier stiff flex shaft with more "standard" lofts.

One stand out is the 7 iron, however there are several 150-170yrd 7 iron shots in that most recent session so if I get the consistency there then I can hopefully fix some of the gapping between 6-8 as that looks pretty big right now.

I am going to take 3w, 4 iron and 5 iron out of the bag and see how I get on however because despite the distances its just not comfortable and the actual shot direction etc is very sporadic for me, even less consistency than the rest of the bag!
