Golf Thread

Didn’t get to play on Friday due car issues, but play twilight game today, wife told me to go and play de-stress. Hardly anyone on the coarse felt like I had the place to myself. Scored 114, I seem to be floating around. 110-115 at the moment.
One bad thing though, felt something in my left elbow go on the 17th, then my left grip strength was woeful. Made my last two holes the worst of the game. Assuming it’s tennis/golf elbow at the moment. I can’t play at all next two weeks, so will be able to give it a rest

hopefully nothing too serious and the rest will sort it out. Keep it going, it will all come together one day and you'll be under 100 in no time.

Professional golf when it's a bit wet and/or windy makes for the best kind of viewing, not a big fan of target golf so love it when all the players have to create shots and use course management more than usual. Yesterday was a great day, nice for the early starters and bad for the later starters which has tightened the field massively. Not checked the forecast today but hopefully it will be a bit blustery and ideally dry across the entire day.

Horschel, Rose or Brown please to win:

Horschel for going around in a polo shirt and backwards hat
Brown for taking selfies with the crowd on 18 whilst still playing his round
Rose for being an all round decent and model pro

Should be a fantastic day.

The last 2 days of a pro tournament should be a shotgun start so everyone is playing in similar conditions.

Would need to be WAY less players, so even if they played in 3 balls, 54 would be the max you could have if they all started on each hole.

Also - it's a horrible way to watch golf....you've generally no feeling or building of excitement towards the end as people are all over the course.

You always want to see a "champion elect" walking down the 18th to the acclaim of the crowd etc - not finishing on the 7th hole of the course at the far side with like 200 people watching!

just back from my first range session about 30 minutes ago, with my new irons..

the difference im pleased to say is night and day..the ones that i hit well, were bullet straight, high and far..

even the ones that would on my D9 forged caused a OB left or right (hook or slice) would still be in play. The feel off them is astounding considering they are a forged face, not body as well.

will be booking a lesson with my pro soon, just before i get out of hand with the new clubs and keep me on the right track. But so far, im honestly flabbergasted at the results..

I have gone from a +1 inch length, with a S300 Dynamic Gold steel stiff shaft, to, +1 inch length, Elevate 95 steel shaft.

Also I have Amazon delivering me a Rapsodo MLM (first gen not the MLM2 Pro) on Tuesday, with vouchers it was £103 so will be great for the range now i no longer have my net setp.

What new clubs did you move onto from the D9?

I've just got some dynapower forged and absolutely love them. Moved on from some Titleist AP2's.

Its the Callaway Paradym irons, I wasnt particularly looking at getting a new set..but when i went into the complex, had a quick gander in the "uses" section and has some ex-display, so basically brand new, with 5-AW (7 irons) for a great price..

And collected them yesterday from the shop, and its only been one range section but they were, effortless to use.

I still like my D9, and was going to hold onto them but if things continue as they did today, i might end up doing so :(

Yes, knew it only had to be a matter of time before I finally showed up with a card in hand :)

Put one in the water on the par 3 6th. Probably due to the shock of parring the 600y 5th for the first time, hit a lovely 8i approach to around 4ft. After that didn't make worse than birdie, had opened up with a double which was my only other blot on the card.

Ball striking was a 9/10, putting very solid. Just the one I feel I should have holed from about 4ft on the par 3 4th after I'd played a lovely chip from left of the green. Really nothing to complain about as a high handicap golfer.

46/42 for a net 67 (-5) and another win in the bag, I'll be getting a reputation at this rate :D Now while I won the last monthly medal with the same gross score I didn't play anywhere near as well and had several large slices of luck. Today I feel like my play deserved it which is really satisfying. Long may it continue!

Had a great day at The Open yesterday - watching these guys in person hitting shots with that wind was mental, barely seemed to affect them!

Brilliant course but it didn't seem as spectator-friendly as other courses looked - when we were at the 150th at St Andrews you pretty much had a decent view no matter where you went. Had to get creative and climb up some of the dunes to get a good view, especially at the 8th as the queues for the grandstand were insane. Left the house at 7am and never got home until 10pm so it was a hell of a long day!

Hopefully we'll be lucky enough to get tickets for a wee jaunt over to Ireland next year!

So Bryson DeChambeau releasing a video today with Donald Trump - should be interesting!

I'd imagine that it's written in a contract to show only the best shots from Trump, not reflect his true handicap/game. Then again it's Youtube Golf.. :p

Wondering if anyone has done the american golf full game review? I went for a driver fitting a good few months back and this went well (didn't buy anything, purely wanted to see what flex shaft etc) and since then I think my swing has come on quite a way with driver and other clubs so wondering if this is a worthwhile thing to visit to check if my kit still suits.

It's exactly what I did a month or two ago when I decided to start playing again. Was very little pressure to actually buy anything but I got a chance to hit a number of different kinds of irons and woods.

Started off with me hitting a few of my irons - my woods were ancient so I was definitely going to buy a 3 and 5 (had a G400 max coming from ebay) and was undecided when I walked in about irons but after hitting a good few shots it was clear that i'd get a decent gain from a newer set with all the technology improvements since I bought my last set of irons.

They had what I think was some sort of GC Quad type setup. In the end after trying a few different irons and woods I ended up buying a set of irons and a 3 and 5 wood.

Got 12 months interest free on them. Love a bit of interest free credit.

Had my first lesson on Sunday evening as well at Wellsgreen Golf Range with Peter Whiteford, spent a lot of time on my irons, a bit of time on the driver and finished up with some wedge work in the hour. It flew in so glad I booked the hour. The Trackman system is a very impressive piece of kit, the lesson area opened up onto the range so I wasn't shooting into a net which was good to see how the ball actually flew in real live. Worked on my launch angle, grip, swing length (was slightly over swinning) and weight transfer. Quite a lot of tweaks which still doesn't feel fully natural but went out the next day and shot 4 shots better than the previous day over 9 which was good - much better accuracy and distance with my shorter irons.

Hopefully get a few rounds in the next week to keep working on it.

Getting so frustrated with my driver atm, irons are great, play a very small fade, hybrids plays a lovely baby draw and same with my 3 wood.

Driver just has a erratic slice in it 60/40 straight or slice. Off for a lesson with my pro on Thursday morning.

Jealous! I've entered the ballot for next year so hoping to get some as well. Some of the pro's were saying they were hitting a 7 iron and only getting 120 yards

Can appreciate just how hard it was to play in them conditions.

I came 2nd in a Mastercard competition back in 2013, just a random drop your email address in here to win prizes kind of thing. Got a day (Friday) at The Open at Muirfield as a prize with a friend. When we arrived we were given our platinum world Mastercard access badges, which got us into the pavilions (Mastercard, Rolex, Mercedes etc) you see on the TV usually on the 17th/18th. Also got us into some other members only area's. Was a great day, everything paid for, so 5 course meal, all drinks etc. Highlight was getting told off jokingly by Graham McDowell for 'chatting up' his wife, whilst him and Poulter served drinks behind the bar! :D The winner got to spend 5 days there with hotel accommodation thrown in! (Edit, was 2013, not 2023)

well..just back from the range, first time setting up the Rapsodo MLM, it was playing up but once i updated the firmware, it was solid.

for the money they cost, they are defiantly worth it for working on your game at the range. Shot tracer SO SO accurate on ball flight and for the most part carry etc. seem within tolerances..

I paid the £59 for the premium year sub..and storing all your data, looking at your stats and individual swing videos etc...and so easy to setup and get swinging.

Really guys, have a look at it, two thumbs up here! :)

flicked through it last night - Trump can hit a decent ball to be fair to him. That putting stroke however   - can not unsee

R&A are enjoying robbing the crowd by the looks of it...

£130 for a Sunday ticket for next year's Open

yeah - listen - I was there Saturday this year - Cost me nothing as mate is Royal Troon member. It was chucking it down for 4 hours in the afternoon. I know it's outdoors etc but I'd be raging paying £130 for a ticket and getting soaked for 4 hours.
