Golf Thread

Got a lesson booked later today.

Not hit a ball in nearly 4 weeks due to holiday then manflu since I got home.

Still all over the place swing wise - Pro has 45 minutes to save me today

Went out last night, starting to see a reduction in 3 putts as I get used to putting again.
Short game was really good, got a set of 3 ping glide 2 wedges from ebay for quite cheap recently, the 52 is a tremendous club.
tee shots and mid irons were a bit wayward but I'm still trying to shorten my swing a bit and work on the weight transfer so it's not feeling natural yet.
Didn't score particularly well on a couple of holes but my short game made it decent enough.

yeah - listen - I was there Saturday this year - Cost me nothing as mate is Royal Troon member. It was chucking it down for 4 hours in the afternoon. I know it's outdoors etc but I'd be raging paying £130 for a ticket and getting soaked for 4 hours.
I was scunnered at paying £100 (I think) for the Sunday there but we just had the wind to contend with which was tolerable.

I can't see how they can justify bumping the price up by £20-£30 unless they're planning on having a lot more fan stuff. I got stung £15 for a ***** burger, chips, and a tin of Sprite...

Amazing what 45 minutes with a pro does for your game.

Was very much "out of sync" at the moment with my swing.....

Went into lesson not expecting too much, came out buzzing :smashin: - Gave me a weird drill to practice to help getting club less over the top, and even on the inside slightly by the end of the lesson.

Basically practice swing is to be like Matt Wolff's swing - make a massive looping practice swing - so massively exaggerating the swinging from the inside.

Then when I address the ball "feel" that same swing but don't do the loop if that makes sense. It did to me anyway!! Amazing to see almost neutral path and the odd positive path (from inside to out)

Also added around 7-10 yards on my 7 iron due to a much better position at impact.....

Great session....

Guys.. what is your go to choice of ball for the course?

Think I will stick with the Srixon AD333 balls, good all rounder and reasonable priced.

Mostly been playing Taylormade Tour Response, but I've recently been trying a new DTC ball I randomly saw on Amazon: https://cavellgolf.com/; they are surprisingly good! While the price is ~£24 a dozen, I can't see myself using anything else currently.

I'm using Slazenger V300 balls at the moment, seem to last pretty well and you can get 48 from Sports Direct for £28 (£18 for 24 or 2 packs for £28) which is 58p a ball. Not too bothered about losing them at that price. May upgrade to a better ball once I get better but at the moment it's a good balance between performance and price.

Just make sure you don't buy the V100 balls as they do a lot poorer reviews.

Just gone back to TaylorMade Distance+ after exhausting the large supply of Soft Response I bought last year, they didn't last as long as I'd planned! I do like the feel of the Distance+, not hard and clicky, and the alignment aid is great for putting. American Golf had them on 3 for 2 recently so cost was just over £1 a ball.

Pro V1x

I usually get AAA+ "second" hand ones - loads of good facebook groups sell them - usually around £38 for 20. Bar the odd pen mark, you would struggle to tell them apart from box fresh ones.

Winter time I tend to use AD333 when just playing bounce games etc.

I’m the same. Once my game improves I will move off the v300 onto the AD333

AD333 for me, as well. Been using them the past year or so and they're working great. Also handy that American Golf have the 4-for-3 deal on regularly!

If people are after second-hand golf balls, I'd recommend looking up The Golf Ball Shack on Facebook. Local guy to me and the balls he sells are basically box-fresh and they're a decent price.

I just ordered some good condition ones on the bay for £28 for 50. Ad333, not too bad a deal.

As soon as the weather turns or the course is decent enough I always use ProV1. Otherwise like others AD333 for me during the winter. great ball.

I also stock up on ProV1 when they have their loyalty offer 4 for 3. Makes good value.

34pts in the weekly roll up this morning, hard work playing off 19! A slow start and ball striking just a little off today, the two I put in the water didn't help either. Would have been comfortably in the 80's otherwise. As it was a 92 which is my third best card so handicap will be coming down again :)

Highlight of the round was draining a 25ft putt on the 5th (SI 1.) for par, net eagle. Five for four :p
