None so far I think...

Closest maybe, or a misstep at least, was replacing the putter from my first Spalding package set. It was a blade and I actually liked it, easily the best club in the set. But with no headcover and me walking I'd managed to chip/flake the paint off the face, don't think it actually made any real difference but looking down on it just didn't give me any confidence so it needed to go...

Replaced it with a TaylorMade Spider GT Rollback, cause new golfer needs forgiveness etc but I just don't like mallets or even half-mallets like that so after a short while I replaced it with the Wilson Infinite Windy City blade and never looked back.

Other than that I'm fairly happy with my changes, I recently got rid of my only hybrid (TaylorMade Burner 3H) with a Paradym 7 Wood, only issue there is it goes so damn far, it's dangerously close to my 'old' Mavrik 5 Wood...

Anybody here use a launch monitor and iPad combo?

Asking as I ordered a iPad 2017 and a data sim from EE to use in my LM. If unsuitable I can send iPad back and the sim is 30 day rolling..

Curious to know how this older iPad will run on Rapsodo software? Or any software that someone here (if any) uses?

would you need a sim? Does it not just bluetooth to launch monitor - then download/update stuff at home on your wifi?

im not 100% sure mate tbh, but cause i have broadband with EE i managed to get a sim that is unlimited and "fibre" speeds on the sim, for £14 p/m. so will see how it goes.

just back from the range and im not happy with the results, apparently, a stand is needed to keep the unit level with the hitting mats...

so will be ordering one off the bay today at some point..

Change of plan…:(

I need cellular to connect to awesome golf. So I will keep the cellular iPad coming today from Amazon with the EE sim..and have cancelled my order from currys.

Shame, as the iPad 10.9” is at a cracking price atm!

So my good form continues. Managed to get out to Forest Pines yesterday for 18 holes around (Pines then Forest - for those who know the 3 different 9s). I went on a stretch of 10 holes when I was 1 over par which I think is a record for me, especially on a tougher course. Nothing spectacular just keeping it in play and some decent chips when I was out of position. It was a recorded round on MyEG of 6.6 in the end (shot 9 over after a slow start). I did finish with a birdie which is always nice. That's me down to 9.2 now - a proper single digit handicap at last :D The course played long as you can imagine in this weather this time of the year but that's my 2nd best score differential I've recorded. Just .1 above my best which was at my home course in ideal summer conditions. Very happy.

Just had the dreaded email from my course, (Weymouth) we're moving to the "winter course" on Saturday. Back to temp tee boxes. Booo!

Both our courses were closed for the first time this autumn/winter on Wednesday after substantial overnight rain left lots of standing water. Back open the following day and we've had two lovely sunny days since and weather for the weekend looks OK. No restrictions on tees or greens yet, not that the courses really have any winter tees. There's only one hole out of the 36 that has a matt on the tee box. I'd quite happily play off matts on the tee all winter if it allowed the green keepers to level all the tee boxes, they're the weakest part of both courses. Trollies still allowed on, winter wheels required if it's electric.

First outing with the spurk mat and pleased with it so far. Just used it solely for pitches and full shots with the scoring irons (I'm happy using a launch mat for hybrids). Ball sits about an inch higher than I'm used to so first few full shots were slight pulls but all pin high. Once I got dialed in I got a few within birdie range and really close, and also had a good couple of up and downs.

Other positives is it feels quite consistent with the strike and spin control i.e. you feel like you can compress the ball whereas sometimes with the launch mat it feels like the club sometimes slides under the ball and you get weird contact and super-weird spin.

It's a pita to attach to the bag but I found a nylon drawstring pouch in a cupboard and was able to hook that onto my bag.

Some 5th Saturday fun in the roll up this morning. Matchplay against 100% of your course handicap. I ended up coming in 2DN. Had a chance to level the match teeing off on eighteen, I got a good drive away but decided against trying to take it over the corner of the dog leg with my second. Wind was into and I knew that I wouldn't have quite enough club to reach while at the same time getting up over the trees. Played up to the corner looking to get up and down from 100 yards. Took pitching wedge and while a touch pully was surprised to fly the green, back flag, given the wind felt fairly strong into my face. Ended up making six when I needed a four to get the match back level :p

Came off the course happy though as after a slow start, losing two of the first three holes, my ball striking was a real step up from recent weeks. Been working on contact drills and my takeaway at the range (and working on separating my upper and lower body any chance I get) and it was good to see the improvements I've seen translate out on course :) Also collected nearest the pin on the par three fifteenth with a lovely 3/4 punch with my 7i to keep it out of the wind, a little money back for everyone in our threeball.

The good form continues as I shot my lowest ever score yesterday - a 73 (I never thought I'd be able to set a realistic aim of a sub 70 round, admittedly its a par 68 which makes that more achievable.) Annoyingly it was in a Bogey comp (for those who know it, you play against the course). I only managed to finish 1up but still very happy.

2 ventures out this week with FORE to play Forrest Pines tomorrow in a scramble then another scramble event on Thursday at Portal Aderne which I've heard really good things about. There's over 60 participants for the latter so hopefully our team can perform well.

Spent last week in Turkey, Belek specifically. Stayed at the Sirene Belek hotel and played on the Pasha and PGA Sultan courses at the Antalya Golf Club. Thankfully weather was good after some rain the week before and I think they're forecast for rain this week, but for us it was ~18c and clear blue skies, lovely :D

Played really solid golf overall, both courses twice with one being a scramble on the PGA Sultan. On the Pasha my course handicap was 16 (index is 18.6) and I scored +17 and +19, so slightly worse than handicap but I'm happy with that really. With the scramble for the Sultan we were -2 which seems ok, although we were on fire early on with 5 birdies in the first 7 holes but also managed a double-bogey, as a three man scramble, that's kinda embarassing

Final round was on the Sultan, most of the group stuck with a scramble but 2 of us wanted to play our own ball, on that course my handicap was 22 and I shot +22, really happy with that on by far the tougher course there.

Just got back from 9 at my local back in the UK. Winter golf be here, quite different :p Didn't play amazing but also took some clubs out (carry only) and made at least one mistake... I took out my 5 and 7 irons but 2 of the par 3's are 150-ish off the mats. For one I used my 6 iron and sailed the green, second I used my 8 and was on the front fringe. If only I had a 7 Iron :p

Lasst couple of years I took a few clubs out of my bag but I've stopped doing that now as I'm a bit choosey what club I want. On the plus side though it does give you opportunities to try different types of shots which can't be a bad thing.
