Hanns-G HG281DP 28" Widescreen Any good, really??

It's not going to be able to scale up to 1200?

Since this monitor has no scaling options that would mean either a horribly stretched 1080p or a lower 16:10 resolution.

Maybe console owners would be better off sticking with a 24" which is more fully featured with 1:1.

Doesn't look like it will do 1200. I guess they don't want to introduce a resolution which would be better than the famous 1080p.

What I was wondering is when the update does come around, would it be better to display on a non-native 16:10 resolution, or go for 1080p and let the monitor stretch it?

If my 19" Hanns-G is anything to go by, allowing the display to stretch the picture will look poor to the point of it being unusable.

I'd expect any 16:10 resolution to look more natural, although far from perfect as the display will upscale it to fill the screen.

Right, so my HDMI doesn't allow above 480p, could this only be because of my specific cable? I ahve heard others going up to at least 1080i with a HDMI cable. Whereas my component ->VGA connection goes up to 1080p.

I should say that in both cases, the "information" tab on my OCD says its a 1080p signal in both cases. Here are 2 pics: not the best quality unfortunately as I only have my 3MP phonecamera to hand (also maybe a bit of hand shakiness).

*No way to upload them. Anyone point me in the direction of somewhere? can't be arsed signing up for anything

Another funny thing happened last night: when on 360 (HDMI), the screen froze, went white (but you could still see Gears of War in the background a bit) and the were some red and blue stripes running vertically down the screen, mainly on the right hand side. Had to pull the power cord out and in again just to get it back on again, a bit worrying.

Basically, I am very close to returning this for the Benq G2400W, as a PC monitor its fantastic, but on 360, less so. So not "ideal for games consoles". Plus that stalling has worried me.

No, there was nothing wrong with the 360, it was still humming away nicely and after I had pulled the power cord out and put it in again, the screen came back on again, with the 360 at exactly the same spot in Gears, still running fine. Its definitely not the 360. The screen froze, not the console.

I received mine today and the box is exactly the same as yours. Opened and then resealed with another HANNS-G Inspected seal. This usually happens as the monitors are manufactured in Europe and are packed with a European two pin power lead.

When the monitors are received in the UK, Hanns-G UK open the box, check the contents, place a UK 3 pin power lead in the box and then re-seal it.

Yes I've since found this out from OCUK, cheers for the info.

BTW very happy with my screen, and now at this price it's a steal.

I have the ViewSonic VX2835WM that uses this panel (3ms G2G (5ms ISO) 28"WS Hannstar TN Film (HSD280MUW1-A) and it’s a cracking unit! The colours etc are spot on, mine has 1:1 mapping which is a massive thing for me, the price of this 28' is unbelievable :D

Thank you very much for this note. Maybe OcUK should be looking for some of these screens. :)

Next to none, to be honest. On 360 or PC. Although 360 has other issues unfortunately.

Thanks. Will be using for general PC use - web, movies etc and some gaming. But I do a lot of sim racing so that will be it's primary use, so input lag is a definite factor - more so than colour representaion, viewing angles etc.

I keep searching for a more in depth review which shows a CRT millisecond input lag comparison but can't find one yet. Anything under 17ms average would be good, as that means less than 1 frame at 60fps.

HI there

Why would you want to buy the Viewsonic model when its over £100 more when both monitors use the same panel. :)

For the money nothing can beat this for value. :)

I would agree and paying a lot more for the Viewsonic is a frustration. However, if I'm paying a lot for a monitor upgrade anyway, I intend it to be an investment. I want to hook up a PS3 to it, so if the monitor will stretch the image vertically to 1920x1200, in the long run I would rather pay more for one that doesn't.

Do you have any suggestions for alternative screens available from OcUK that will display 1080p from a PS3 without stretching?

You have a crap credit rating then, I would suggest you check it out.

How can I have a crap credit rating, all i've ever done is had a Debit Card and two mobile phone contracts both of which I never missed one payment! Not asif im asking for much like £400 to pay before a year lol.

You don’t want to get the Hanns-G if you intent to use a console or the like, you need a monitor with 1:1 mapping, once you use it proves its value on the ViewSonic, the ViewSonic is better than this hence the price difference, you ca pick up the ViewSonic for about £70 more than the Hanns-G and IMO is the best one to get.

1080p is 1980 by 1200 right? And the xbox 360 does 1080p natively via VGA? And the monitor res is that right? So it would be 1:1 pixel matching on my layout?
