Hazro - Any Update?

Exactly what I'm afraid off. Couldn't stand the brightness of my OcUk Value 24". Sold it after a week :o

Doesn't reducing brightness improve blacklevel ?

What brightness level is everyone else using it at?

Default of 50%?

even at 30% it rapes the LG226s for colour and those are nearly at 70-80% bright already.

Reducing the brightness improves the white contrast level more than the pure black level. the black level remains largely constant whilst lighter shades of black/grey etc are affected by brightness. pure black remains pure black which i assume is thanks to the polariser filter used.

This is why I'm always hesitant about posting testing figures as opposed to real world photos (see my original thread for pics!) because as good as figures are they are not always the same as the "standard" and the real world results are far far better which I hope my pictures often show otherwise people are scared off by odd looking results figures!

So to make clear…

- Colours appear fine to the sexy naked eye out of the box, they are even nicer after calibration going from an average dE of 1.6x to 0.33

- Brightness is a little bright using factory default settings. You have 3 choices to resolve this which are (1) Decrease brightness to around 45 (2) Decrease the default Custom RGB values from 95 each to say 85 each which gives a more pleasing brightness that does not cause eye strain or (3) do one of the above and use a calibration device to get accurate colours and bring out the shadow detail.

- I will redo the vertical banding test when I get home as I recalibrated last night using the Matrix profile as opposed to 8bit LUT as matrix avoids any banding on a non wide gamut LCD.

- Build quality and presence is far far far greater than any other monitor you’ll have on your desk. It looks like business and people will comment on this aspect every time.

- Gaming performance is satisfying enough to enjoy fast paced FPS action or driving, I play TF2 and GRID daily and have no issues.

- Movies do not lose out on black details even out of the box they are good but after calibration it’s just about perfect for movies.

hey mrk looks like you know whar you are talking about

I've calibrated mine using a heuy stick and its still pretty bright I'd say but perhaps i'm just used to something lame now

Ok I did a recalibration tonight to test what bands and what does not.

First run = Gamme 2.2, LUT 8bit profile = banding, weak shadow details

Second run = Gamma L*, LUT 8bit profile = banding, excellent shadow detail

Third run = Gamma L*, Matrix profile = [test running]

Hm I don't think you're suppose d to rotate that banding test as it's meant to be like this:

http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/img_noprofile/gradient-h.png

This may be why banding is visible when it is rotated.... I will confirm by testing on some other screens in the house

Edit*

Nope no banding on the TN panels

Yes it should be rotated. I rotated it as all Hazro 24" owners so far have reported banding using this test.

even made a video illustrating the problem: http://www.eat.myzen.co.uk/tmp/Hazro2.mov

Got mine today too!

Im finding this new one a little strange.

Very bright, banding on several horizontal and vertical grandients...including the pic above.

Build quality is superb.

Finger controllers are much better.

Cant get the picture quite right and cant rid of the banding....

OK i know very little about calibrating monitors as i am just surfing around reading. But when i run checkemon, in the colour spectrum test i had to lower my contrast to 7 to get rid of the horizontal banding with brightness on 35 and colour temp of 6500k.

I am using the native resolution and 32 bit colour, all windows/nvidia settings are at defaults.

What do you reckon?

First one there has a lot of banding on mine. Thats a shame. Isn't this supposed to be a 8bit panel?? wtfness is going on??

colour depth has very little to do with banding. I'd imagine any banding you are seeing is more related to poorly set up gamma curves tbh. Calibration may help.

on another note, there's no banding on the HZ26Wi (calibrated). In fact, gradients are excellent, and not even any sign of slight stepping in darker tones, which is something you will see on most TFT monitors

Ok final calibration run the banding is still there on the rotated version but no banding on the non rotated version so there's defo vertical banding going on. While I was looking at the results I noticed the green speckling/snow that I saw once before on the old DVI cable which I thought was fixed with a new cable but alas my worst fears have been realised!

I have recorded a video of this snowing as it only seems to populate darker areas of screen. The issue is NOT video card related as when I got the screen I had an nVidia card and am now on an ATI.

I will contact Hazro about it and show them this thread and see what they say as I will be looking to get this one swapped if they can fix it quickly or maybe get a 26" but only if it's at no major cost to me as I've already had to wait months for the "i" model and don't want to wait so long again but also don't want to not have a Hazro screen :S but I slowly see myself maybe edging toward the HP IPS screen maybe or something else if this cannot be resolved!

Banding in the above vertical test:

Video [14MB WMV]:

Thanks for the Parrot photo BTW, looks awesome:

On a more positive note tough the last calibration run has improved the dE by .1 to 0.32 which is not too shabby.

you used to love your Hazro mrk

I actually do love my 26Wi ! I have no issues at all. The banding is very slight on mine and not something that comes up in practical use for me.

I do hence why I want to see if they can fix it or if I can try the 26Wi :)

It's not the banding I'm most worried about though, it's the green snow. I thought it was fixed by switching DVI cable but today I see that's not the case! only way to get rid of it is to turn off the screen and back on again.

I don't want to have to come home one day and find the whole screen covered in green snow/lines and then not have a monitor to use!
