Hazro - Any Update?

Just got a confirmation email, my 24” is being picked up on the 1st Oct by FedEx and I am in London on the 2nd and 3rd so assuming turnaround is 2 days I will have it back Friday/Saturday so I won’t actually be missing the monitor at all hehe.

Good times.

I thought you were getting a full refund, Mrk? Don't you have the HP now?

I never returned the Hazro instead bought the HP to compare side by side and ended up not liking the HP so much so returned the HP.

Am I the only one who is as chilled as a Bud Light about all this?

I mean I've had many 24" screens now (all the big models up to £500).
I now know there's little competition to the Hazro yet I'm sat here waiting for collection and 2~ day turnaround for mine because of banding and snow yet I'm as calm as night about the whole thing.

I also patiently waited 2 months for the Wi to get swapped with my W!

People need to stop freaking out :p your screens will be sorted, you'll get them back, you'll enjoy super duper image quality.

I'm quite glad to hear that the Hazro beat out the HP in terms of image quality in your book, especially as I know how discerning you've been! I am calm about the return of my screen but I am missing it quite a lot. Especially as there's a game I am looking to get for my Wii when it comes out on Friday and can't play it until I have the Hazro back to have something to which to connect the Wii!

We're not freaked, it would just be nice to get an email that just stated that the monitors has been received and they would be back at so and so time.

I'd be happy to wait a while, if they were just keeping people up to date :/

I take it, that it would not be a good idea to buy a Hazro at the moment? There's a juicy deal on this week only but it seems there's quite a few issues?

Black levels improve a fair amount after calibration - for me I have had no issues in games, all details visible. in black areas.

I fired up some Stalker today to test the blacks in one of the dark tunnel sections, I'm finding it hard to calibrate my black level (I'm not using any hardware calibration but black level you can calibrate visually right?) I'm using brightness 50 and contrast 56, I'm really disappointed as lowering the brightness results in black crush, and at the moment even my L90D+ out performs in terms of blacks. I understand that blacks arent the strong point of IPS panels but this is pretty bad no? (If there's a size limit to attached images let me know and I'll resize!)

Pic 1, total darkness:

Pic 2, thought some "ambient" lighting could improve the perceived black level, still pretty poor:

Yup tried ingame gamma, brightness and contrast, thats literally the darkest I can get the monitor to display black. Did your blacks start off like this before calibration, and are they a lot better that this after?

I can't see how hardware calibration can change anything though as with a pure black image, lowering the brightness does nothing, and it's the backlight that I need to lower. What's your room lighting like?

I would buy one of these today if there was any sort of guarantee that the monitor would come with the firmware update. I'm sure OCUK must be following this thread - are you anywhere near exhausting your original stock of HZ24Wi?

This is how my monitor was before it died.
terrible black levels, well not really black are they... more like navy. In a darkened room I could read a book by the light coming off a totally black screen.
according to my spyder 2 pro the best I could get the black level was 1.4 cd/m2. Going by the specs of a 400cd/m2 display with 700:1 contrast ratio I should be able to get 0.57cd/m2 black level.
I could get no where near. MrK managed 0.6 which is close enough. So I put it down to a fault with the monitor. Hazro also agreed with this.

Wish I could afford a hardware calibrator to check what black levels I'm getting, although they were very similar (slightly worse) with the one I returned so I'm guessing this is as good as they get. Speaking to somebody else about it I guess this is as good as it gets, since it's down to the monitor using panel blocking rather than hardware backlight adjustments.

This is something that I'll never get over as I have quite a few dark movies and play a lot of dark games (never realised how many dark scenes there are in a game until they get ruined), and don't think I should have to put up with a £400 investment. Looking for a replacement but can't find any competition (24" IPS, standard gamut, excellent pic quality, no lag, good price point), and in everything else this monitor has completely ruined my 19" for me!

I'd just like to say that I am really really pleased with my Hazro, although I'm cetainly not an expert and don't really know what to look out for regarding backlight, etc.

I do have banding in some of those tests / bbc iplayer, but for everything else I never notice it.

I also got the green snow when I first plugged it in (was gutted) but changed the port on the GFX card and enabled the "reduced DVI frequency" option and I have seen NO flashing green pixels since.

However, when I play my PS3 through the HDMI socket, I get green sparkles when a game starts up (with the PS3 logo / black screen) but have yet to see it in-game.

All-in all I would recommend this to someone who could live with the banding in certain circumstances unless they end up with green snow which is unbearable.

I might risk getting mine sorted out but TBH I'm so pleased in nearly every situation that I don't really want to run the risk of getting a worse monitor back.

Hope this helps anyone who is undecided.

I've stuck out quiet and content too :p , I think I bought mine about a week after you got yours, we've been in it from the start! Going to send mine back for shielding etc etc etc when I get to uni, but I won't have a spare screen so I might wait a while until they get the backlog done, then I can ship mine there and back quick snap  Still very much enjoying mine, but I think I do miss the matte finish on the first gen, however the glossyness of the second gen makes the image look fantastic! So.... swings and round abouts. I think the black levels used to be a bit better, but the image was no where near as sharp as it is on the second gen. I do have 2 "stuck" pixels, they are strange, cause they are only visible from certain angles and seem to flash between all the colours, now this could be fixed by the shielding, I just dont know. The build quality is good, there are some gaps as have been shown before, but to be honest who is looking round the side for gaps in the case? This is a FULL aluminium cased monitor, this is the Lian Li of monitor cases, how much are Lian Li's and how many have curved edges? So, this fantastic panel + fantastic customer service + unique build, I don't know what more you could want for the money. If Hazro were ingnoring the issues and not going so unbelivably far out of thier way to fix them, then I would have a problem. For the time being I think everybody needs to sit back, enjoy thier purchase, stop analysing it too much and give Hazro time to resolve the issues they are having. I also believe that poeple should not shy away from the monitors because of these issues that have been blown out of proportion, pump a bit of money into the company and they will be 10 times more willing to resolve issue after issue if it makes people continue to buy thier monitors.

I've ranted enough now, I'll shut up!

Jack.

So can anyone sum up the problems these monitors have at the moment? I'm looking to finally upgrade from my trusty 19" Sammy and Hazro 26" model is on This Week Only at a very attractive price. I'll mostly use it for games, films and occasional photoshop and this looks perfect (only other non TN alternative is 2709 but that has terrible lag), however, people keep mentioning all sorts of problem here.
