The Stormbird?
I thought the Stormbird was only up in the snow? I went up to try and get a power cell from GIA but there was a missing ladder. Started making my way back down and stumbled into that thing. Its like an eagle from hell. I spent nearly an hour fighting it as it kept getting out of my view at the same time trying to survive playing hide and seek. I thought the Deathbringer was bad. Well this is a different kind of bad. The way it swoops in on you or crashes down for you.

It was frightening what was guarding the path to GIA. Ambushes everywhere. From the air, high on the rocks waiting 3 of them and Ravagers and Watchers. Ravagers and Watchers wouldn't have been so bad but not 3 Glinthawks and 3 Stalkers.

I don't like the thought of facing two Stormbirds?
Yep, that's the Stormbird!
They're also located around desert regions too - you can see one on the way to meridian. HERE's one for example (not porting in to check if it is the site though!)

They're easy to manage with a ropecaster apparently but I tend to stick to bow+arrow for most encounters.

I recall that the area around the Devil's Thirst Bandit Camp was a particularly abundant spot for wildlife, that's where I did most of my farming for crafting materials.
The only thing I didn't see much of in that area was the raccoons.

I'm about 40+ hours of gameplay and I've only just found out that you can rappel down a Tallneck after overriding it and set off an EMP that causes some serious damage to the machines around it... I feel quite thick for not knowing about that.

Just moved into a higher level area and found a Thunderjaw and one of those bird things.

I take it all back :D
The moment when you move over to the new area was one of my favourite points of the game... what did it for me was when you're starting to feel like nothing can touch you and then the dread that hits when you step up to a Thunderjaw for the first time and realise it's going to take some real effort.

Ugh! Thank god I hadn't been through it. Though I did recall seeing the icon but there was no text since I hadn't scanned the thing yet. God they're evil! The panic that set in when it started walking around screaming with its wings spread out and that huge blue shock shield was on my heels.

The sounds when it drops the shock trail.

Everytime I come across a bigger beast I think it cannot get any worse.

I'd say the glinthawks are the worst. Trying to take 4 of them out in a corrupted zone damn near made me rage quit. Not that they're difficult or anything, it's that they don't bloody stay still. :p I had to pause and have a ten minute break.

I loved when it sneezed then looked up towards me.

Just finished this, bar a couple of side missions.

Great things -
+ Aloy is a brilliant character. So refreshing to see a strong, intelligent, sensitive female lead who isn't wearing a push-up bra.
+ The backstory is absolutely superb and full of emotional resonance. The concept is a really good bit of proper fleshed out sci-fi which contributes lots to explaining why the game world is as it is, even down to the design of the machines.
+ The graphics. I think this is possibly the best looking game I've ever played, even on a poverty spec PS4.
+ Combat. Awesome - loads of satisfying, fairly novel weaponry and fluid mechanics.
+ Robot dinsoaurs
+ Reasonable crafting/economy system.
+ Basically everything is loads of fun.

Could use improving -
- Aside from Aloy, lots of the supporting characters felt pretty two dimensional, and I could barely recall who half the side mission characters were come the end.
- Hit and miss side missions. Lots of blindly following people's tracks. Could use some humour.
- Needed more unique and specialised weapons, more vendor variation and more crafting options (particularly for melee). I was using the same loadout for probably 50% of the game.
- Crafting/economy fairly broken towards the end of the game, I stopped looting because I already had eleven billion of everything and my packs were always full.
- I'd like to see a more extensive skill tree which required some specialisation, perhaps geared around weapon types.
- Presentation of cauldrons, bandit camps etc made them feel really generic, I'd rather have had them tied into the main story mission somehow.
- Reward chests were rubbish and largely not worth the effort.
- A lot of the backstory reveals came in big chunks of passive reading/listening, needed to be more spaced out or perhaps with proper cut-scenes.
- Missed opportunities/under-developed mechanics for riding, stealth and over-riding machines.
- FOV a little tight, some minor camera niggles in combat.
- Better transitions required between day/night cycles and weather effects.

Overall, 9/10 and I hope they get cracking on a follow up!

Completed the main story last night, what a game. It's not a 10/10 but it's close, just a few niggling bits.

Now to mop up all the side stuff and try and get that platinum!

Just moved into a higher level area and found a Thunderjaw and one of those bird things.

I take it all back :D

I fought my first thunderjaw last night. However, it did take 2 attempts. The first time I got blind sided by 3 Glinthawks that were circling nearby and went into attack mode when I drifted too close. Then the Thunderjaw finished me. I was sooooooo annoyed as it was almost dead! lol.

Got the bugger 2nd time around though :D To be fair I had some great cover with rocky terrain so just harried it until I had destroyed most of its parts then a big hole opened up in the side and a couple of arrows there did the job (300 dmg each  )

I had serious problems with grass and stuff like that getting in my view when trying to shoot things and it got quite annoying sometimes.

I find tagging prey with R2 makes life a bit easier with grass - Just aim for the downward pointy arrow! :p

I found the area where you first come through into the 2nd main area of the game on your way to Meridian was really good for hunting. Boar, Fox, Racoon, Rabbit and Turkey. There is a camp fire just outside of a Cauldron and that area was mint for prey. Just have to keep an eye out though as there are relatively regular convoys of those shell back things with watchers. I decided to override one to see what it did. Basically decimated everything then trundled on its way like bitch please! lol. Those things are brutal.
