HTC Touch Diamond, New Flagship Model...

if a bigger battery comes out, i hope its not the size of the nokia extended one :/

Well rumours on xda are saying that it might make it a bit more bulkier...which isnt a good thing:(...but really anything that will make this phone run more than a day.

Heres an example of my day today...left phone charging overnite...this morning its at 100%....so off i went to work...now i made a total of 5 calls..total time about 45 mins of call time. Sent about 30 sms's...checked my email account 4 times today. Browsed the internet for about 10 mins today...watched a couple of youtube videos. So really i havent begun to use this phone like i used my N95 8gb. I got home by 7pm and the phone battery was dead :/.

So its pretty dire to say the least, battery performance wise im not impressed but other than that im chuffed with the phone itself. Now i just hope when they do bring out the extended batteries...rumour has it that there might be a 2200mah one out...i just hope it doesnt increase the size of the phone. HTC made a monumental error like Nokia did with the original N95...why they put a 900mah battery in this phone is beyond me...even with light usage you will be lucky to get a full days use out of it....for me thats the biggest letdown and over at xda most people who have the Diamond are saying the same thing although there are tweaks you can do to prolong the battery life.

But all in all im definitely keeping it now...dont know if ill be getting the X1 tbh...its a nice phone but it looks big and chunky...mind ill probably get one anyways and then send it back if i dont like it:p

I phoned T-mobile today, primarily asking for a port authorisation code to (potentially) move to O2 for the new 3G iPhone.

After a fair bit of discussion, the guy at T-mobile said the HTC Touch Diamond would be showing up on T-mobile by the end of June and come in (on contract) at less than the new iPhone.

Since the iPhone doesn't come out till 11 July, my T-mobile contract is up on 3rd July (therefore no early termination penalty) and that the Touch Diamond could be out in a week - I think I'll wait a week a see what the offers are.

I know the Touch Diamond is waaaay better spec than the new iPhone but, I'm still quite keen on the latter.

Thoughts anyone?

Personally i was looking forward to the new 3g iphone but after it was announced and having a look at the specs...i wouldnt bother touching it. All it brings to the original iphone is the 3g chip and gps...other than that the camera is still absolute rubbish and the biggest failure on apples part is the lack of MMS. Plus its much more bigger and bulkier than the Diamond is...fair enough its got 8gb or 16gb of internal memory but 4gb is plenty for me...cant see myself ever filling that up. Primarily because i have the ipod touch as my mp3 player...

If thats true then im having one no question, but im hanging fire for O2 or Orange as im not going to have another T Mobile contract ever.

Same boat as me then :)

Apparently you'll be able to get the Touch Diamond from Vodafone for £230 (handset only) next month :)

So should i sell the N95 8GB for it???

When you say handset only, do you mean No Contract and £230 for the phone ????

If so that would be amazing as all resellers are currently selling it at £400 ish. I was going to buy one off them, but if Voda are selling it for £230 I think I may wait a little while.

Also most people her are saying they'll get one on contract, my personal preference is to get phones unlocked and get a Sim Only deal, I find that the costs over the period of say 18 months work out cheaper than being tied into a contract. Also I can changer networks when I want without a tie in of a contract. I appreciate the initial handset cost is more, but for me that's not the big issue.

Taff.

Apparently locked to PAYG, not sure if/how that would affect adding a contract sim?

Depends I puppose on the person. If im getting one itll need a web bolt on of some sort, and im not sure if any companies offer PAYG with web bolt ons?

The SIM Only deals I use are not PAYG, they are PAYM, you commit to say £25 a month and get in my example 700 mins,100 texts and unlimted landline calls this is with Orange, and I can also add a data bolt on if I want.

The main benefit is that as I haven't had a handset from them there is no tie in from the network for a contract period, and I just have to give 30 days notice to terminate.

Was thinking about getting one of these but was put of by this review: http://www.trustedreviews.com/mobile-devices/review/2008/06/25/HTC-Touch-Diamond/p1

LOL you got put off by review??. Hmmm i read a lot of reviews myself before buying the phone and a few of them didnt really rate the Diamond. I ended up buying one...heading over to XDA and applying certain tweaks and ill be honest...this phone really rocks...possibly the best HTC/WM device out there at the moment.

a lot of the problems with this phone is down to WM o/s...its terrible but with the XDA tweaks...its much more easier and joyful to use.

I wouldnt let one silly review put you off tbqh...pop over to XDA and you will find a lot of people are generally happy with the phone.

Spawn: Can you give examples of some of the XDA software you are using to make the WM O/S more user friendly etc?

Thanks :)

I dont find windows to be awkward on the phone as standard.

However, the different ROM's you can load on the HTC phones pretty much all you to do anything you can think of with a phone, AS well as removing the odd button press to get to certain functions.
Where as before i flashed my phone, messaging, emails, calls and and the like where accessed through different menus, one face button now activates an "action screen" where everything you would use day to day is listed with big bold buttons.

Not really software as such but more like certain tweaks which just make the Diamond a pleasure to use....the biggest gripe that a lot of people have on the Diamond is that it wasnt very user friendly out of the box...the touchflo3d menu system was laggy amongst other things. But doing certain tweaks through the registry, with a reg editor has made life a lot more bearable than it was when it first comes out of the box. Not saying it wasnt useable as it was but it wasnt as responsive as you would like it to be. But the guys over at XDA really know their stuff and made a big thread on what tweaks you should do to make the phone shine.

The only biggest gripes i have with the Diamond is the poor battery...900mah in a little powerful device just doesnt cut it im afraid...im having to charge the phone twice a day much like the original N95 but its not that bad as the synch cable allows you to charge from the usb port albeit its a lot slower than the wall plug charger. The only other gripe is that the phone does suffer from mem leakage but i blame WM for that...HTC are also to blame as they didnt do their homework when it came to that....but its just a case of waiting for a rom to be made that will rectify that problem.

Saying that though i havent once regretted my decision to buy the Diamond...sure it has its faults but tweaking it just makes it a little better. Anyone who thinks that this phone will be perfect out of the box is sadly mistaken...its far from being perfect and as of yet i havent come across a smartphone thats perfect out of the box. I dont think the X1 will be perfect either but who knows...
