I found a broken cat this evening :/

Any vet worth their salt would treat a cat in that condition regardless of where they thought costs were or were not coming from.

I'm guessing the little fella will be euthanized, seems like it may be the kindest thing if his legs are no longer functional.

My GF has a rescue cat that was swung around by her back legs by morons. They were of course broken but she made a full recovery and leads a normal life well into her twenties, albeit with a John Wayne kind of swagger :)

Yeah see a lot of reports about them needing tails amputated and stuff after these type of accidents.

Good to hear :)

Another example of human scum that has no business stealing our air...

Hope karma bites them in the ass.

I never understand this line of thinking, it's bizarre. Let's kill the cat because he isn't fully functional. Surely you'd rather be alive with legs that don't work than not alive at all?

Oddly, we think this way about all animals- either too expensive or too much hassle to keep them alive.

Yet with people it's the exact opposite. We won't even let them go when they want to.
(Admittedly, you can't explain to an animal why it can't do the things it did before, so I appreciate there is a difference!).

Yup, unfortunately the world has many evil people in it. A defenceless kitten though? Pretty sick.

We've spent over £200 alone on several surgeries for one pet rat. Another rat has cost us £120. It's frightening how much we have spent on something that could cost us less than £10 to replace. That isn't the point though, I think if you are willing to take on the responsibility of a pet animal, you are willing to take on the potential costs.

Even without the idea of responsibility, I wouldn't be able to put down a pet rat because it would be cheaper to get another rat. Its my rat! :(

I imagine the RSPCA doesn't have much of the donations left after their adverts to pay for vet bills :(

My local vet has a donation account to pay vet bills for strays brought in. Much better idea. They waive the consultation charge for those who donate.

The RSPCA are rubbish beyond then CPL on the other hand are fantastic! :)

But you don';t have to, animals are smart and way more able to adapt than humans without treatment, when one of our cats jumped from too high as a kitten (4 months) and pulled a muscle in his leg, he knew it, and he was there after 120 days alive, boundin round on 3 legs like there was nothing abnormal about it, know how to heal and knowing how to adapt comes naturally to animals, whereas we panic irrationally for ourselves, and for them at times over something where they are probably not even aware of it, due to it being so minor.

On that point, you can't explain to an animal why you're killing them because they're not in full working order either. Plus animals aren't soft, they know how to adapt if something isn't working as it should, and they know if something isn't working as it should in terms of physical ability. Hence why you get animals like that 2 legged dog that can walk upright.

Well I have an update, and it's not good news as just got off the phone with the vets.

Apparently, as the cat had some nasty fractures it would have been a long road to recovery (and possible expensive one) so the owners decided to have him put down :(

I did question whether or not it was down a money thing, and didn't really get an answer, pushed again towards the long road to recovery and it was the owners decision.

So I dunno, maybe it's a good thing if the poor little guy was suffering, just glad I found him when I did and he didn't die dehydrating and suffering in a bush or long grass somewhere :(

Reading some of the replies below, it's good to know that he had lots of positive thoughts heading his way, and I do kind of agree with the fact that animals manage to cope rather well so should try to be saved where ever possible but I guess it has to be a personal decision at the end of the day, a bit like turning off life support.

But still a part of me thinks it may have come down to a money thing, but I didn't get the chance to express to the vets the intentions of possibly paying for the cat treatment ourselves (with possible help!) , owners decision at the end of the day, and considering I don't have any of the facts written down, I suppose I will never know the true reasons and the actual state he was in.

Would the outcome of been different if he wasn't micro chipped and had no owners, possibly, but again who knows!

On a slightly more negative note, I have just thought again that the owner never contacted me to so "hey, thanks for taking my cat to the vets, if it wasn't for you he wouldda... blah blah... ":mad:

Rest in peace CAT6
