Waiting for Z390 seems sensible!

That wouldn't explain why they couldn't make it forwards-compatible with Icelake, if that indeed ends up being the case. We don't know yet.And the reason they've made Z370 Coffee Lake only is because they're using more pins for VCC on Z370, 146 on Z370 vs 128 on Z270.
You can find the info in their 8th gen datasheet here: https://www.intel.com/content/www/u...cessor-family-s-platform-datasheet-vol-1.html
Yes. If you have the cash to splash for a 1080 Ti you probably have the cash to splash for an i7-8700K so who cares.@DarkHorizon472 10% is putting it mildly for 1080p, probably GPU limited tests because in the reviews with a 1080 Ti the difference is higher.
2 months vs 18 months is a tad different
Not sure DDR5 will be around for us in 2019, isn't that the time servers get it first? Hard to say.You should probably just wait until 2019 then, when PCI-E 4.0/5.0 and DDR5 will start to become part of the newer boards, and 6/8 core CPU's are then mainstream.

This makes Kaby lake obsolete now. I'm sure the likes of MSI, Asus, etc are all loving the fact they have a huge inventory of Z270 motherboards that they are now going to struggle to sell.
Isn’t z390 8 core? The 6 core 8700k will hold me a couple years.
At £500 I'd hope it'll last you until 2022.
You mean £350 right? Or did he buy one of the binned chips
Yeah could be 2019 for us, just looked again and it's due for servers next year so.. possibly.Very late 2019, early 2020 if it all stays on track. So two fulls years minimum, more like 2.5 years from now. Have to wait to see how GPU's progress in the next two years to see where the rest of the system needs to be.
Its going to be a long few weeks, sat here with motherboard, ram and no 8700k!
