iPhone 2.1 Software

might be worth giving the phone a complete hard drive wipe and then restore. Not sure if iTunes does that but pawnage allows that option.

Ive tried an iTunes restore several times to no avail but I didn't realise pwnage had extra options regarding that. Will try that.

After Safari got it's first crash out of the way on my 2.1 iPhone, it must have crashed around 2-3 times more regularly than 2.0.2 since then. I've also noticed no change in battery life, in fact it probably seems worse!

This is a complete joke, I'm a big Apple fan and have spent thousands on their products and I feel really let down with the iPhone 3G.

I've just noticed that upgrading apps in the phone now seems to remember icon positions.. Finally!

Managed to sort my restore problem by restoring a previous version, installing and uninstalling winterboard, performing a new backup then upgrading and restoring from that. Haven't had any crashes or slowdown since, although it's still not as snappy as 1.1.4.

I have updated mine to 2.1.

Seems pretty similar, text lag wasnt a problem for me as if i had it i would just hit the home key and go back it to texting and it would be fine. Although it would obviously be better if i didnt have to.

I am having some email issues though, not sure if it is related to the upgrade or just a wierd email i have forwarded.

I'm very happy with 2.1 so far, just backed up and synced, and it took about 4 minutes. A very slight improvement from 2 hours+!

On top of that, I just installed some apps from iTunes to the phone, and each app took 10 seconds instead of 10-15 minutes. Fantastic!

Never had any text lag problems, but I only tend to intensively text my girlfriend, so maybe my text database is much simpler.

I've been waiting for a stable OS release before jailbreaking. I think this is the one!

I really want to upgrade to 2.1 but hearing some people still finding the texting slow compared to 1.1.4 I don't really want to update mine (hugs my 2g 1.1.4 iphone) but I really wanna try Spore Origins and Beatmaker. Decisions decisions.

Stupid question probably:

I've got a 2G iPhone running jailbroken & unlocked 2.0.1 courtesy of pwnageTool.

Just downloaded the 2.1 firmware and using pwnageTool again - do I need to neuter the bootloader again or do I disable that because it's been done already?

I just want to be running 2.1 jailbroken & unlocked as I am already with 2.0.2

Thanks in advance!

So it was a problem for you?

Not the disaster other people made out. There was certainly no way i could text with it that slow, so in effect i just restarted the texting app which got around the problem

I've got an iPod Touch that's on 1.4 jailbroken. Can I just update straight to 2.1 without doing any nifty tricks or anything?

Contacts is still dog slow to open on my iPhone now it is on 2.1 and it is not like I even have a massive amount of contacts.

God help it when we get Exchange at work I think Contacts will melt.

I don't care if I have to pay or whatever, just as long as I don't have to do anything nifty to get the upgrade, like go into recovery mode and then connect to iTunes or vice versa or something like that?!
