*** iPhone 5 - Revealed! ***

I thought Nano sims were thinner as well? Well played if it fits by just trimming off the sides.

no sims have been the same thickness forever afaik.

I've been working with them for getting on for 20 years (jesus christ.....) and I've never experienced anything to do with thickness on them and thats moving from credit card sized ones to what I guess most people would call normal size to micro.

you get what this is right? It's anodised aluminium, nothing is flaking off anything, there's no paint to flake off, they're getting knocks somehow along the sharpest edges which is exposing the unanodised aluminium by the looks of things.

Its pretty shoddy that thats happening out of the box but to be honest they should age quite gracefully.

Maybe.

Doesn't really matter what it is or why it's happening. If it is happening from new, then it could happen.

it depends how you use them and whether you put a case on it, my point was merely there'll be nothing flaking off. Scratching through the anodising to the raw aluminium is possible but this isn't a paint, the black is bonded to the aluminium using acid and an electrical charge, it won't come off but you can scratch through it.

And to be honest I expect you'll find the usual mixture of handsets, in an hour on the train into london and round the tube the other day I saw a surprising amount of iphone 4 and galaxy s3 variants with properly smashed up screens and cases. I also saw a load of pristine ones.

This all seems to me like the sort of hysterical arm waving a minority of nexus 7 owners managed to create about what appear to be some serious QC issues (thankfully mine is fine) and there's been no recall.

I just wouldn't hold my breath for anything on this, to be honest it'll probably age to a slight hint of aluminium around the sharpest part of the champfered edge and that'll be that unless you're the sort of hamfisted clod who would have ended up with a glass crazy paving iPhone 4S. Some people shouldn't have nice things.

And for the people who know they shouldn't there are Griffin Survivors/Otterbox Defenders etc etc.

Here's the problem with aluminium anodizing (Apple overconfident in a new process like HTC maybe?)

HTC revised the One S design with smoother edges really quickly (< month?), will Apple do the same I wonder? :D

Had a play with the new iPhone in an Apple store today- hmm, it feels a bit too light. I'm too used to the premium heft of 4/4S maybe. Otherwise, not bad at all. The white version looks a bit rubbish at the top though, with the iSight on top of the ear piece, and then what I presume is the light sensor on the left, both quite prominent black spots. New connector looks good though, and the thin-ness is nice. Overall very nice but not hugely impressed.

The Retina MBP on the other hand- wow. What a display.

It suffers badly from image persistence though. Something I sold my 24" iMac for after 3 screen replacements. It's one of the worst faults you can get with an LCD screen and it gets *much* worse with age to the point you have text on text on a movie that you watched 20 mins ago.

great MILF ^ ^

The only two things im worried about are the aluminum back which will scratch as above and the weight make it feel more like a plastic toy than a phone now :(

Crap - just noticed two scratches on the front right above the SIM tray :(. One of those scratches that if you wouldnt see if you werent looking for it. Not sure what to do but Id feel like a prat if I didnt get Apple to deal with this...

ps3ud0

I'm really enjoying my iPhone 5 :)

It feels very light and the screen is brilliant. I'm really impressed with the speed of the device. It's increidbly quick on Wifi and is still very quick on 3G.

Maps, meh, it's ok, I don't use it that often. Youtube is a bit of a loss, but I tend to use my iPad 3 / MacBook Pro for watching video's as I usually find the screen size frustrating.

A welcome upgrade that I'm enjoying a lot :)
