*** iPhone 5 - Revealed! ***

I'm really enjoying my iPhone 5 :)

It feels very light and the screen is brilliant. I'm really impressed with the speed of the device. It's increidbly quick on Wifi and is still very quick on 3G.

Maps, meh, it's ok, I don't use it that often. Youtube is a bit of a loss, but I tend to use my iPad 3 / MacBook Pro for watching video's as I usually find the screen size frustrating.

A welcome upgrade that I'm enjoying a lot :)

My thoughts/first impressions quickly...

It was delivered via UPS, direct from Apple. Was on my desk at work by 11.30am.

I'm just off to bed as i have a very busy day tomorrow. But just a quick note on how i'm finding it....

- Screen is awesome, not just the size, but the colours and clarity are much better.
- Vodafone activated my Nano sim in minutes of calling them, which is good.
- Restore from my backup on my JB'ed 4S went without a hitch.
- Phone is very fast and smooth!
- Map app isn't great, but i have just set up a desktop shortcut to the googlemaps web page until Google release their maps app...
- Other than the maps, iOS6 is great, much prefer the look of the music player and the status bar etc.
- will be trying the camera etc tomorrow so i'll see how that goes.

Looks like the 4S can be gone quicker than i thought!

Here's the problem with aluminium anodizing (Apple overconfident in a new process like HTC maybe?)

AnodizeDrawing.jpg

HTC revised the One S design with smoother edges really quickly (< month?), will Apple do the same I wonder? :D

Meh, if it was me I would cover up the rear glass and then sandblast the back to remove all the coating so it looks all roughed up all over! :D

Isn't the process of anodizing just opening the pores in the aluminium and the colour applied sinks into the open pores, it wears very quickly from experience and is not a coating suitable for touching all the time as even just handling with your hands will wear away the colour from my experience.

Seriously, by the time they've sorted all the problems out with newly launched iphones you only have around 10 months of having the latest product. With the iphone 4 didn't it take them ages to establish that you pretty much required a bumper to use it as a phone so they started dishing them out for free rather than charging £20?.

I'v been holding off buying a new phone to see what the 5 is like, and I'm not impressed by what I'm hearing so far.

Hopefully the competitor phones launching soon will be better so I don't have such a tough decision to make.

Upgraded my 4 to a 4s instead. Got one for £315 with 10 months applecare still and 2 months old. So cost to upgrade from my 4 was £120ish. I will look again next year when more cases/protectors are out and they have cured the finish. Also there might be more happening with the 4G. I really like the look of the 5 but prefer the smaller screen, the battery bump would be welcomed.

I probably would have took the plunge but my ipad 3 is with me most of the time and that's what I surf on anyway.

So this issue of scratching/scuffing does this seem to just be being reported for the black at the minute? I've got a white but have slapped a case on it straight the way.

I got a zagg front screen shield for mine the minute i got it and had it fitted at carphone warehouse. They said no back protector was coming (invisishield) so i bought an ultrathin bumper (rocket i think its called)

However i have read zagg are doing a 'zagg extreme invishield' for the iphone 5 which covers the front, back and sides. I will get this when its out and get that fitted with carphone warehouse too (which gives a 25 year guarantee and free refits if anything bubbles, peels etc)

Required a bumper to use it as a phone? I never even noticed the issue in the 18 months I had the phone  I didn't use any sort of case either. The issue was massively overhyped by the media.

The problem doesn't seem to be isolated , so if I was anyone with a iphone 5 I would be worried.
HTC had same problem with the same sort of coating on the one s , it simply isn't very durable , but it looks great .
I know a lot of us like our phones to stay looking nw , but unless your fitting a case to this I would be very surprised if it doesn't chip !
get insurance and drop it hard if it looks bad ;)

The one S Sure as hell isn't >£500 though

Can't believe someone would accept a premium product with obvious manufacturing faults.

Die hard fanboys would think it was ok if it turned up with recycled toilet tissue as packaging.

My 5 is immaculate. It's a fantastic upgrade to the 4.

There seems to be a lot of 'fantastic upgrades' going on. In reality I think its more people trying to convince themselves that its an amazing upgrade. There's a youtube video posted a few pages back, with some guy from the USA. Its all so true ;)
