*** iPhone 5 - Revealed! ***

Am I the only one who's genuinely shocked that Mike actually has a 4s? all he's ever done is whine about it/Apple before purchasing and during ownership.
The cynical side in me is yelling its made up so he can have a dig.

Samsung have tried the same - unsuccessfully - so you'd better not 'support' them either. :p

I'm expecting a lot of that kinda thing in the run-up to the iPhone 5, and no doubt it'll be used as a stick to beat buyers after release too.

Personally, i'd rather not do the whole nose-off-to-spite-my-face rhetoric.

On a side note, is it generally accepted there won't be 4G support then? I was hoping for that one as i'm on Orange.

It should have LTE support, especially as Orange/T-Mobile are rolling out 4G networks fairly soon (how good they will be is anyone's guess).

Interesting stuff from Anandtech. Doesnt look like its going to be a big leap this generation.

That's quite disappointing :( I really thought it would be NFC this year :(

If it comes without NFC, I will think twice about upgrading  But who knows what Apple will do! For all we know, they could use Bluetooth instead! From the rumours it just doesn't seem that big of a bump for a "main number" update (By which I mean, iPhone 4 had big updates, iPhone 4S smaller updates).

Maybe we could expect the first "one more thing" after Jobs passing? :p

Given that it's essentially £200 for an iP4S user like myself, i'll be making the upgrade. Bigger screen and faster CPU/GPU as well as improved battery life is good enough for me.

Indeed. I couldn't care less about NFC at the moment, we're years behind some of the Asian countries when it comes to widespread contactless payment systems here and in the US which means they won't bother with it until it is established more globally. AFAIK even the phones that do have it, like some of the newest Android ones have the functionality borked by certain carriers for whatever reason...

For everyone that is complaining about it looking similar to what the 4/4s is... what on earth are you expecting them I change?!

The 4 design is a stunning one that still hasn't been rivalled (unless you count massive plastic, flimsy things! So why change it?

Increasing the screen size over 4 inches would mean that you'd need to use 2 hands to use the phone- a poor design decision if ever there was one. The huge screen of a galaxy s3 might be nice to look at but it's impractical for 90% of the time!

I think something like the 800 offers a better design (imo) and a much better build quailty, I feel like the 800 would take much more damage and still survive, and I love how the colour runs through the phone of the plastic.

The "rumor'd" new black design is some what growing on me, I would like a phone with a nice metal back instead of glass and the colors are somewhat appealing to me, will have to wait to see it in person.

And a big screen like the s3 is actual really nice for any sort of media consumpation, which is a big part of smart phones. It is also more comfortable to text with 2 handed, and cause of the larger size it allows a much bigger battery so you get a lot more talk time. There are disadvantages, mainly 1 hand usaged but I would say atleast 80% of the time a big screen is very useful.

3UK is also rolling out a 4g network and have already agreed with samsung to release some phones, hopefully they can get the new LTE(hoping) iPhone on their 4g network too. Unlimited 4g sounds good, but the amount they might charge is scary.

Yeah but the 4S is no slouch and is totally lag free so would you even notice the faster cpu/gpu and if Anandtech is to believed the battery is only marginally bigger, sure the die shrinkage will save a bit of power but any power savings will be easily out done by the half inch bigger screen. But we will see when it finally arrives as anyway you look at it it's all conjecture.

I thought that about the iP4 vs the 4S though and now if I use my girlfriend's iP4 I can easily notice the difference. It's no slouch of a phone but the 4S just "snaps" around iOS that much quicker.

I'm also never going to turn down a bigger screen! (although I don't want it too big)

Samsung make good ssd's and I love my sammy tv! I've also found their warranty service to be ace!

Apple make good phones and I love my Apple router! I've also found their warranty service to be ace!

(see where i'm going here? :p)

Who's doing the best trade in price on 4s 16gb atm chaps?

I use any of the online trade in comparison tools - there's one on moneysavingexpert for example. I believe a few days ago the best price was Tesco's recycle tool at around £300.

Same here, although I won't be getting one till it can be jailbroken. :D

Pah, I don't care for jailbreaking. ;)

If the Anandtech article is anything to go by, its doesn't seem like a massive upgrade over my iphone 4. I have had iphones since 2008 but I am actually looking forward to September 5th when Nokia/Microsoft provide information on their flagship Windows 8 Mobile, expected to be the Lumia 1000.

None of the iPhones have been massive improvements over the previous ones though. Spec bump, couple of extra bits and bobs, same for all their gear really - get the odd wow thing like Retina on the iPod/Phone/iPad and Macbooks - all expected stuff otherwise though, same for the rest of their gear. It's the new product lines these days that are the exciting thing, everything else gets into a pattern and settles.

I think the iPhone 4 was a massive improvement over the 3GS.
