January Transfer Window 2010/2011 Season Rumours/Signings

I think Torres needs to realise the meaning of the word timing and who he chooses to join.

Other players have done similar things, the issue with Torres is the majority of Liverpool fans expected better of him. We thought that he was 1 of the few players around these days that had a bit of loyalty and we were wrong.

I'll admit I'm gutted he's left. He's the best striker in the world in my opinion and in an ideal world we'd have kept him and brought in top players to play around him. Once he decided he wanted to leave it was just a case of whether it was best for the club to let him go now or in the summer and clearly once he showed his true colours, Dalglish, Comolli and whoever else, decided it was best he went now.

Again, in an ideal world once it was decided he was going, you'd have wanted him to go abroad but with Real or Barca not being possible destinations that wasn't possible.

From a business point of view, by getting £50m for him we've made the best of a bad situation. Only time will tell whether signing Carroll and Suarez (although he was signing anyway) were the best possible replacements.

On paper is our squad stronger with Suarez and Carroll instead of Torres? Possibly but the reality is that we're going to be far better off with a hungry Suarez and Carroll than an unhappy Torres.

One thing's for certain though, I'm more optimistic about the future of the club now - without Torres, Alonso, Mascherano etc -than I was under the previous ownership and those players still at the club.

I'm late to the party but 35 mill! Jayzus. In what world is Carroll worth more than Barcelona's Fabregas valuation?

Surprise surprise Wenger didn't sign anyone, or did he? I thought we'd have at least gotten a centre back with Vermaelen out for a few more months if things go to plan. I don't count the 15 year old Japanese kid as a "proper" transfer.

I don't think this has worked out too badly for Liverpool at all to be honest. He looked like he was getting a bit of form back under Kenny but if he was unhappy anyway would he ever have returned to his best? Probably not.

Now you've got two goal threats (Obviously no-one is sure about Suarez and Carol needs to get back to fitness and hopefully pick up where he left off), so the load is spread a little. And Torres covers the cost of everything.

I think we're all pretty amazed he didn't leave last season, so to get another half a season out of him, however good he's been, and 50 million, I think you're laughing.

Christ Purdy, you talk worse **** than who you're replying to.

He said he doesn't like Torres because he scuffs penalty spots when barely any other player in similar situations acts out in a similar manner. Seems like a fairly good reason to most comptenant human beings, but oh well let's go on pretending everyone throws a stroppy like the Spanish tranvestite and everyone is blinkered to their prejudice but you.

Right so it's normal to like players who cheat in more common ways but perfectly understandable to dislike one who scruffs a penobspot out of anger when it wasn't a pen in the first place. Players waving about imaginary cards or just dropping 'that was two footed' in the refs ear, I don't see the reason to hate Torres over any other player that dives, cheats, complains whatever.

We expect better of Nando, but come on, 3 days before the windows shut, lol.

Have to agree very much so with your last point, but I guess relaying on two strikers who are both very good is better than relying on one moody one, guess getting attached to players is silly:p

The problem isn't that he's left. A lot of Liverpool fans understand the reasons why he wanted out - although his decision to join Chelsea was a surprise. It's the lack of class around the way he's left the club that's the issue.

It was bad enough that he's joining Chelsea but had he waited until the summer and given the club more time to prepare for his exit, a lot of Liverpool fans would find it difficult to criticise him too much. Had he even made it clear at the start of this transfer window he might have been forgiven. But he chose (and I suspect planned with Chelsea) to leave it as late in the day as possible, in order to force the issue and leave Liverpool with a decision of selling to Chelsea or having an unhappy player on our hands for 6 months. I'm just glad the club stood firm and held out for a decent fee for him.

Torres had a great World Cup didn't he, been in dazzling form since.

I don't think Torres is the best striker in the World, but it's down to opinion, he's dropped off a lot. I still think on form he's one of the best and a fantastic player :)

torres played awful in the world cup and was subbed in most if not all his matches and even dropped from the team for a match was he not?

Name me a striker that has won the WC and scored in the European Championship, he is world class, best player in the world to score from inside the box, on the turn, near the half way line from a run. That is the true sign of class.

Shame Liverpool are so low in the league and devalued, would you stay at your job knowing you could earn more, go to a business that has more money and better prospects?

torres is really good when on form, but he has been terrible as of late. he's also been injury prone for some reason too. i hope he gets back to his former glory, but there are quite a few strikers out there better than him.

david villa, etoo, milito, forlan, ronaldo, messi, higuain have all had a better year in 2010.

in previous years kaka was a 1 man army and invincible, but he had a really bad year, much like torres has had. kaka and torres both seem to be in a slump. hopefully mourihno can reform kaka and ancelotti can reform torres.

torres is world class when on form, but he hasnt been world class for the last year, which is pretty inconsistent. maybe the fact he was at such a poor club (or poorly managed club) had a role to play, but then what was his excuse for the world cup? the best team in the world yet he still played terrible. hopefully he can put the last year behind him.

Wasn't happy that Torres decided to move when he did and I was even unhappier to hear of the club he wanted to move to but if that interview is true I hope someone goes through his knee and ends his career.

just because your a fan, you think you can dictate his life to him? he can choose to do whatever he likes, its his life.

chelsea > liverpool so i think a lot of people would have done the same if given the chance.

your last comment is vile, and immature. you need to grow up and learn that life isnt all about football or liverpool.

all hearsay, you cannot prove any of it.

how do you know he hadn't privately told the club several months ago? the club refused so he went public in order to get his way.

let him move on, you have suarez who is only a shade or two worse and carrol for decent backup, although if i had the choice between 15 million and carrol or torres, i would choose torres, you guys overpaid by a long shot unless he stays at the club for 10 years.

I know more about what's gone on behind the scenes at my club than you do and I can safely say the club had no idea Torres wanted to leave during this transfer window until late last week.

I was being sarcastic :p

I thought Torres was poor in the World Cup and has been awful since, bar a few spells of decent form.

Cheets or someone else was making the point he's the best striker in the world, I personally don't think he is. He's one of them when on form :)

If he did then he would have been better to keep quiet and not have said this earlier this month :

"My head is in Liverpool and on helping save our season. I am professional and I always fulfil my deals."

Imho he became frustrated at the lack of movement in the transfer market & we've no idea what was said in discussions regarding this before the soap opera of the past few days.

I wouldn't say Torres is back on track yet.

When he joined I thought he was bloody ace, give him the ball and he'd score. He's just been a shadow of his former self for a while now. Don't know if it's because he's been unhappy, but if he'd have wanted to leave for that long he's had opportunity. Leaving it until last minute in a January transfer window was a bit of a shock.

something obviously happened at the club then, he probably wanted the new owners to buy in decent defenders and decent wingers or something along those lines and nothing happened.

how much was he on at liverpool and whats his new wages?

Nobody knows for certain but I'd imagine he was on somewhere in the region of £120k per week at Liverpool and that he's got a heft pay rise to join Chelsea.
