January Transfer Window 2010/2011 Season Rumours/Signings

Allegedly Carroll didn't want to leave Newcastle and was texting a local fanzine about this saying he was kicked out the door when the figure was revealed.

If it's true, then I'm not surprised at all and I have a good idea where that money will end up :(

He didn't have to sign the contract though did he. That way he could have stayed at Newcastle.

Torres, Reina, Mascherano, Benayoun didn't play for liverpool when they won the CL

FA cup the season after? Pretty sure Reina was there that season so him, Gerrard, Alonso, Carragher would have been there.

World class team?

Far from it. Though better than what is there now, of course.

I was just pointing out that some of the players named have won things as players.

I fear for the sustainability of the premiership.

Transfer fees and wages cannot continue like this.

They won't because of Uefa's financial fair play rules coming into play.

Before the last week or so I had my doubts over how serious the clubs are taking these rules but the big spending this window shows that they are. This was the last oppotunity for Chelsea to splash the cash and although it's slightly more complicated, this was the only chance for Liverpool to spend the money they got for Torres.

It's not quite that clear cut. Our squad still needs a couple of players added to it but the squad in '05 was even thinner. As for the first 11, I'd only want Hyypia, Alonso and Garcia back. Obviously Carra's form is not the same as back then but we're stronger in all but those 3/4 positions now imo.

You say that but how much money is washing around in payment instalments yet to be paid?

Look at when Portsmouth went into administration, they owed money to various clubs for transfers.

I've got no idea how much money is still owed by clubs but transfer fees won't continue like this. From the summer onwards clubs will only be able to spend an average of ~£13m per season on top of what they earn for the next 3 seasons and that £13m will eventually become £0.

Torres said:
They really want me and it is important when you have the support of the people in the club, and the support of the fans who always showed respect to me when I came to Stamford Bridge and at Anfield.

He does realise they only went after him after getting rejected by Augero?

This season is just making players like Hernandez and Van De Vaart look more and more like ridiculously good pieces of business.

Massive difference between Summer and Winter transfer windows, I did read at the weekend that the LMA want the Winter one scrapped, and I agree with it. You should make your bed in the summer and then lie in it for the season.

Its going to be one the other, neither Torres or Dogba are wide players, and if chelsea switch to 4-4-2 they dont have the players in the middle for it.

what are you talking about?

lampard, essien, ramires, malouda, zhirkov, kalou, benayoun, mikel.

theres 8 players who all can play midfield, granted mikel is terrible and ramires is still adjusting, lets call it 6 players most of them top level.

Malouda/Zhirkov --- Lampard --- Essien --- Kalou/Benayoun

there you go theres how i would play their midfield. With the option to change zhirkov for malouda and benayoun for kalou.

granted their team is more about pace and strength and not as technical as other midfields, they could really do with an alonso/fabregas/xavi type player. but i reckon they would do very well with that midfield and torres and drogba up front with the option to bring on anelka if one of them is having a poor game.

If Chelsea do switch to playing 2 strikers right up top, it will be some sort of 4-1-3-2 system with 1 of either Lampard or Essien pushed out to the right and they'll rely on their fullbacks to provide their width.

-----------Mikel
--Lampard-Essien-Malouda
------Torres--Drogba
