January Transfer Window 2010/2011 Season Rumours/Signings

There wouldnt be a bidding war, barca just havent got the funds like Chelsea,Madrid and City i would have thought???

It wouldn't sir the emotions seeing him with a chelsea shirt? Mind you you already seen him with a barca one:)

Wouldn't bother me, if only at the end of the day we remain doing well enough in the league to hit fourth or more each year. Players not wanting to go to rival clubs or loyalty etc. are things I don't expect any more.

We already know what will happen they already play together for span. It's not proved particularly devastating.

What do you think Abramovich will do once he's spent £1b and still doesn’t dominate English/European football?

As said it'll need Torres being fit and after a good run, and Cesc actually starting for Spain as well I suppose.

Who knows what Abramovich will do, I don't think he really cares about domination only the return for his investment. There's lots more 'value' in winning the Euro Cup than the EPL I imagine he wants that.

They don't have a sugar daddy owner no, but they generate cash on their own in an almost unrivalled way.

The trouble is with a lot of clubs looking at Arsenal players is that we've a history of being a bit tap-up-able. They'll not spend unwisely, hence the constant 'Cesc has Barca DNA' garbage that gets written every few months. The price can be driven down. It's why I've said for a long time we really need a better negotiator when it comes to selling players. They guy who sold Vieira and Henry wasn't the same one who magically got a profit/broke even on Pascal Cygan.

Take Liverpool for example. They got a good price for Alonso, a guy it seems through one reason or another was to leave. Torres clearly needed a new start and had a history of being injury prone in England, yet they coaxed a staggering £50m for him. Not sure on the rumours for Gerrard: somebody who hasn't performed properly in years and in my personal opinion was over rated / had a very heavy 'English' bias anyway for £25m? At 31!!

Fabianski > Reina. :p

I have nothing constructive to add to this conversation, I just wanted to say something.

Oh wait, something else, I didn't know Diouf went to Rangers, I always thought he was one of Blackburn's best players.

I can't see Superfab being too interested in a move to Chelski. I'd imagine the only club he is interested in leaving Arsenal for is Barcelona.

It will all depend on the cl qf finals. If they get thumped by barca and only win the carling cup then i can not see him staying. £30 mil would be the right price. A better question would be, will arsene spend the money generated?

I didn't say Fabregas would stay, just that he would only go to Barcelona.

Fabregas himself wouldn't go to Chelsea in my opinion, he's very outspoken about how he likes clubs to be run and how he likes football to be played, Chelsea would provide neither. He'll leave Arsenal when Barcelona decide to stump up what he's worth, until then I can't see him leaving for a different team. I don't actually think he's unhappy at Arsenal, especially when he's playing with Nasri and RvP.

Greenlizard, about negotiations, recently Adebayor went for £25m when he was worth about £5m! I was really impressed at getting £25m, even if it was City

Adebayor scored a not insignificant amount of goals at Arsenal... 24 goals in the league the year before he left wasn't bad at all! The year after he only scored 10, but he was a goalscorer... worth more than 5mil, definitely.

I think that Fabregas will see out the remainder of his contract and most Arsenal fans would probably say it's not a case of if he goes, but when. I've no idea what will happen with the money, as we know Wenger doesn't often spend that much in comparison to other managers though in the past few seasons he has spent the odd 10 million here and there. I'm not sure if I'd be happy to leave Cesc's responsibility and role in the team to Nasri. The guy is hugely talented and did well when Fabregas was injured but losing a top class player and not replacing him is weakening our strength in depth somewhat. I heard Gourcuff's name mentioned a fair bit before but I've never seen him play.

£5m may be a bit on the low side, but I watched him week in, week out in that last season. I watched him go from a near 30 goal striker who ran his balls off and completed the team, to a player that for some reason decided to stop running, at all. That's vital for a footballer. He also was offside far more than any other player in the league, obviously due to his refusal to run. A footballer who does not run is not worth money

£30 mil would be the right price.
Would it toss. In the world off an off-form Torres being £50m, and Ronaldo being £80m, Fabregas is worth £60m, easy.

Of course, as Greenlizard0 said, we're rarely any good at getting the full worth of our sales, so we'll get about £25m for him

Arsenal will hold out for £50m at least, which he's easily worth in a £35m-for-Carroll market, in fact he's worth going on £100m in this market (I'm not even joking, he's easily 3 times as valuable as Carroll). Fairly sure they offered £35m last summer and Arsenal swiftly told them no way.

Doesn't really matter what price he goes for when arsene will not spend it on players with experince and quality.

I'm not sure we can make comparisons with Carroll, Carrolls fee was wildly affected by 1) Being English 2) the deal being done in the last 12 hours of the january window and 3) By the target club knowing full well that the buying club had a cheque for £50m burning a hole in their pocket.

If Fabregas goes, I'd expect it to be for £40-50m (more towards the upper end of that than the lower).

How long is Fabs contract remaining at the moment? Is it 2 years? Or has he renewed it?

The one thing Benitez did was get good value for a lot of the players he sold, then again, he got not great value on others, it effected his net spend that everyone loves to talk about incredibly well though, was Alonso 30mil, he's no where near as good as people think, but still important to that team.

But Benitez almost threw him out the door, Liverpool were going to sell no matter what, how they still got so much for him I don't know.

Wenger used to get good prices, Petit/Overmars/Anelka, etc, etc, but since then well, we lose players for all the wrong reasons, at all the wrong times and get screwed on the prices almost every time, City's stupid spending aside.

As said, if Torres is worth 50mil, and Fabregas is FAR more consistant, and was more instrumental in far more games than Torres in the World/Euro cups then we should get more than that frankly.

I don't want to see him go, ever, he's by far the best player in the squad but frankly he SHOULD be at a club winning titles, and no, the carling cup doesn't count.

I would suggest amongst all the conversations Wengers had with the likes of Henry, Vieira, Fab, RVP, Gallas and co, when he asks them to stay just another year because "this will be our year" and sounding like a Liverpool fan, the opposite part of the promise is, stay one more year, this will be the year we win something, if not, I won't make it difficult to leave next season.

THen Vieira and Henry walk out for half the offers we'd gotten the previous seasons, and could very well be what happens with Fabregas, RVP, Arshavin, Narsi, and not ruddy Theo, who the hell would offer big money for Theo, I'd take half what he's worth from anyone right now :(

He has like a 5 year contract, they're going to have to pay an absolute mountain of money for him. I watch him every week and he is seriously, seriously, seriously good. I wouldn't swap him for any midfielder in the world (considering the league we're in), and I don't even think that is super biased (Iniesta would get absolutely ruined in our league, Xavi is too old for our league). He's seriously good, he can do anything.

However, I'd swap Carroll for about 100 strikers in the world ..

How many years has Fab got left on his contract - 2 summers left to get top whack before the money goes down dramatically?

While everyone knows he is a great player I dont think Arsenal have competed closely enough for CL/EPL titles consistantly to get anything like £60m (Ronny went because he had been in 2 CL finals with Man Utd (winning 1), a number of EPL winning teams and other bits and pieces not to mention Balloon D'Or winner) - Ok so Fabregas has got the Spanish link on his side (where Ronny's Portugal team isnt as good as they should be), but otherwise he hasnt contended for the major prizes consistantly at all.

Impossible to compare to Torres figure (mid season sale, and one of the few quality strikers eligable for CL this season for Chelsea) - but I think Arsenal would be lucky to get £40m this summer unless a bidding war starts (but I think even Chelski know he would only go to Barca)

edit ok 5 year contract , anyone really believe he will last another 2/3 years (unless Arsenal can be more constantly challanging)?

Mid -season will always drive prices up (fewer options available) so I dont know why people are comparing to Torres money at all

It might be 4, it's a long time. He did renew it about a year or so ago

I would love for him to stay until the end of his contract though and leave for free.
