January Transfer Window 2010/2011 Season Rumours/Signings

It's dodgy journalism alright but if he wants to play in the CL then there's only one option for him ;)

The way Chelsea are throwing money around - who says they dont look at replacing Cech (decent keeper but hasnt been his best for a season or two understandably)

Of course Chelsea may not get CL either - but the club most likely to knock Chelsea out of CL contention........Liverpool so that doesnt really matter either lol

La Liga is far worse than our league for bad tackles. Just look at the amount of injuries they suffer and the amount of yellow and red cards they pick up compared to our teams.

The way the Arsenal supporters talk about our league people could be forgiven for thinking it has more in common with UFC than football :o

I catch two games or more each weekend and have say that just isn't true. They rarely if ever play at the pace required for those tackles anyway.

I watch it every week, there aren't as many bad tackles, or tackles in general.
The worst two players for discipline in our league are Charlie Adam (9 yellows) and Lee Cattermole (5 yellows, 2 reds) on 9 points. There are 15 players with worse disciplinary records playing in Spain!

Man City have got the worse disciplinary record in the Premiership with 49 yellows and 4 reds which equates to 57 points. If they played in La Liga they'd only be the fourth worst team!

I honestly don't understand how you can come to the conclusion that the English league is worse because it's not even close for discipline or bad tackles

England is more physically taxing than Spain, a combination of a few things. I thought it was widely known we have the most physical league around, literally every footballer who speaks about England echoes that.

As I said, it's so very easy to get a yellow in Spain, as it is when our teams play in the CL

Remember that we're in a league where - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WL4XDxrhn9o isn't considered a foul ..

I would not use bookings as a guide in la liga as you can get a card for anything that doesn't deserve 1. If its possible the standard of refs is worst that the epl

I guess this is from the other week. City have now got 66 points with 51 yellows and 5 reds.

It should be noted that Arsenal have the 2nd worse disciplinary record in the league on 62 points with 44 yellows and 6 reds. They do have a game in hand over City though so can still make those 4 points up ;)

You're honestly using refereeing/card stats, and you don't get the link?

Why do you think a league like Spain is generally less physical? Because the Spanish are just generally a bit more wussy, or because the refs are more likely to card you over there?

I'll let you fill in the dots from there.

I believe Alonso gave an interview a while back where he said that despite what people think, he finds the Spanish league more physically demanding that the EPL.

Is the standard of refereeing in European games closer to that of Spain or England? That's surely the only time you're likely to have a passable chance to compare the the various likelihoods of English/Spanish/whatever nation teams getting fouls given against them. Even then it's not great as a comparison method as it's still subjective and would assume that teams don't change their style of play much.

This still the transfer thread or do we have a hijacking on our hands?

Sort of a hijacking but I think it flows passably well from the transfers at the moment to future transfers and why they would/wouldn't work.

We're not allowed to create threads any more, everything has to go in here.

You are still allowed to create thread but not club threads unless there's been a recent rule change and I've missed it. If you're referring to the Gary Neville retirement thread again then his retirement was mentioned in this thread and wasn't deemed to merit the separate thread.

Haven't two or three of the Arsenal red cards been ridiculous though? Koscielny was sent off against Liverpool for a second yellow for alleged handball when his arms were pretty much by his side and didn't move. Can't remember if that's 100% spot on but I remember at the time thinking it was nowhere near deliberate. Same with a Song challenge I think, picked up a yellow earlier in a game and then was given a yellow card for a nothing tackle and sent off.

Yeah, because some people are challenged.

If Reina joined utd there'd be some kind of breakdown on here. Can't see it happening but if he wants to stay in England then logically it's only us or arsenal.

They will never sell him to us it's a none starter but to be honest I didn't think they would sell Torres to Chelsea but with it being MU I can't see it at all.
