Arsenal will hold out for £50m at least, which he's easily worth in a £35m-for-Carroll market, in fact he's worth going on £100m in this market (I'm not even joking, he's easily 3 times as valuable as Carroll). Fairly sure they offered £35m last summer and Arsenal swiftly told them no way.
AS I was getting at this is a perfect example. 25mil opening offers for Carroll from Spurs, at that stage Carroll was having a good year, and had recently signed a 5 year contract, in his home town, with a pretty decent intention of staying till he retired if he could.
Fabregas asked to leave last year, has won the world/euro cups, is proven world class and isn't winning anything. Wenger makes promises about the clubs intentions, who they'll bring in to persuade him to stay.
The next season, Fabregas still wants to go, Wenger didn't invest wisely, the team still wins nothing, the improvements turn out to be a cheap striker and two cheap defenders, who are all now expensive benchwarmers expect when other injuries happen.
Its just 100% not the same situation.
How much would Carroll go for to Pool if, he grew up in Liverpool and was there as a kid, his family and friends live in Pool, he was established as a cup winner with England(I know far fetched that England could win anything), and he'd wanted to leave for 2-3 years and was only persuaded against leaving the season before with loads of promises made
