January Transfer Window 2010/2011 Season Rumours/Signings

Why couldnt Reina go to Chelsea?

Cech isnt at his best - hasnt been for a few years, Reina would be a definite improvement (and Torres already there, with a relatively smooth sale - so no problem between the clubs)

It would be harsh on Cech without a doubt, but its not impossible (in one way Cech is lucky to still be playing), Managers at Chelsea have lost their jobs from making fewer mistakes......

Arsene would definitely be a contender too - and undoubtedly the sale would be easier to stomach all around than Utd, but I cant see him paying £20m for any player let alone a gk (I believe thats the rumoured price for Reina anyway)

I'd take him at Arsenal in a flash, but I don't think I could justify £20m+ on him/any goalkeeper. It'd smash the club's transfer record comfortably, would he be worth it? Is he £20m+ better than Cheznee? Who knows. Apparently Arsenal did bid £20m+ last summer which means we're interested, and seemingly going a bit mental with money all of a sudden

Goalkeepers are worth that much. They play nearly every game in the season and rarely get injured. 10 years ago Buffon moved to Juventus for £32 million.

Exactly - more likely to spend that on two centre backs........

And rarely in the last half decade have any of them even been worth that. I like Vermaelen I think he's a good player, Koscielny is getting better but still a bit error prone, Djourou was starting to get a bit of form before he got injured (typical Arsenal) and Squillaci is just gash. I'd rather see 20 million spent on a world class centre back than a goalkeeper, I think that Flappyhandski and Chesney aren't doing a bad job between them. You could look at the last game and say we conceded 4 goals I suppose but I'd blame 2 of them on **** poor panic defending.

The other two were from the phantom second penalty and the wonder strike free kick which never should have been awarded in the first place, but again shoddy defending to even concede it.

Which two CB's cost that much?? The closest I can think is Verm and Kos, who I think will be awesome CB's long term, perhaps Kos was bought a season early though

Vermaelen and Koscielny were 10 million ish and I'm not sure how much we paid for Squillaci 6 or 7 million? That's 3 out of 4 of our last few CB's who have been pushing £10,000,000. When you look at the lower clubs and some of the signings they make for bugger all money you wonder why Arsenal don't try and do the same. I would've thought we'd have made a move for Samba, I think he's good in both boxes, strong physical presence and a leader, just what we need at the back but no... :/

I don't think that I'd want Wenger to leave, ever. But he certainly needs to start spending some money in the summer, well, not spending obscene amounts but just bringing new faces in at least. We have a lot of dead wood that needs to be sold on.

sorry for mis-understanding I meant fees for both players added together :) (and then dont play - 1 very decent , just unlucky with injury - and 2nd pretty average)

edit - thought Verm was pushing £12m but I could be well off with that, not sure where I got that figure from (and even then if his fitness improves he would still be worth it)

I thought he was a bit cheaper but since all we have to go on is guesses from random journalists who knows
