LG 42-inch OLED

Amusingly been doing some paperwork on my 77" G2. Using the exact same documents vs my 42" C2, the latter darkens much more with static content. The G2, barely darkens at all if at all and stays decently brighter with static content on similar length of time. Abit both are set to about 40 OLED light and similar setting elsewhere. Wonder how they differ in terms of setup and or if the heatsink is also a reason. Curious now how other 42" models will be as they should have heatsinks. Or could be I am seeing things

Interesting results and that was with tpc and grc switched off in service menu on 42C2?

Vincent showed a pretty good heatsink and ABL difference with the Sony QD-OLED TV here at the start of the video

But yours is the static content stuff so your heatsink on the G2 is still showing how it keeps any brightness limiting away. Really do wish LG released an
42 G2 with flat wall mount design.

I don't think the Sony 42" has a heatsink but some thermal adjusting system, that might still allow it to keep the brightness limiting to an minimum or off, but can't see many spending almost 1K extra on that.

That Asus 42" ROG gaming OLED has an heatsink, quite possible the Asus engineers added it to give it a more monitor experience. Hear they are an nightmare and will take ages to release though.

When I worked here it just wasn’t worth mentioning any form of competition when it came to buying goods and that stood for both owners.

It may not be something sold by clockers but they sell a lot of what clockers do. I get it that 99.9% of people buy from all over but there may be that one person living under a rock that now has a new avenue to buy from.

I’m not too sure on the rules surrounding the competition these days but I see a lot of people are still cryptic so I’ll remain so too.

I always like playing it safe, I don’t know who I’ll end up upsetting next!

Back on topic, when are the next generation of OLED hybrid panels like the Alienware gaming monitor due? (In a desktop friendly 40-43”)

I don’t think are any OLED / QD-OLEDs in that size coming in 2022.

LG has a 48”
Sony is about to announce a 4K 144hz monitor that is built for PS5 ,which I would imagine would be OLED in the next couple of weeks but we don’t know the size of it.

The only other one to suggest is the C2 42”.

It will take a while for anyone to do under 42” in a OLED/ QD-OLED that is not an UW.

In my case had the tpc and grc on for both TVs when I tried it. Also was using similar screens and G2 did not dim by the time I got to the end of the document in same place I did on G2. May need to check all the other settings to fully ensure its apples to apples, though they should be!

On second glance I now understand Jays posting and where he got it from:D

Too many Cryptic puns and disguises, I posted a pretty good one few pages back lol

There is that Asus rog 42" gaming OLED with heatsink which was due this year but Asus are notorious for stock and delays apparently. It might be bit more monitor and gaming and auto dimming friendly not sure.

Otherwise I believe QD-OLEDs of 49" size are coming next year but these are TV panels, they might do monitors with them though I don't think they will get QD-OLED in 40-42"
any time soon.

42C2 working great on my setup. 42" is a nice spot for distance from eyes, desk space and immersion. Now I just have to do some tiding up of cables etc. The poor G8 hanging out in the back. :o

Impressive am sure its all fine the settings, so all one had to do now is do that firmware trick to rename the TV to an G2 to get the extra brightness and disable firmware updates so it can't fix itself then add an heat plate on top of the Evo processor, take a picture of it and email it to LG saying this is how to go about doing it :D

As I work from home 2/3 days a week the screen will be used 50% of it's time displaying a desktop with static windows, any tips to avoid screen burn?

I've had a 65" LG OLED since 2017, zero burn in. Just leave the LG burn-in "avoidance" tools/settings on, as they come from the factory and you'll be fine. The new 42" does auto dim when you haven't moved a mouse for a while, for additional protection. As soon as you move your mouse it brightens up again. I thought it would bother me when working but it hasn't tbh. :)

My setup. Very happy with the monitor, stunning visuals and performance. I tried some challenging titles on max settings at the weekend and held over 60 FPS on all of them, which given it’s 4K, I was very happy with. Most normal games are holding max 120FPS with ease, with occasional dips to 100FPS, which is excellent. :)

How big is the desk?

Yeah it’s more of a dining table than a desk haha. I like plenty of space when I’m working etc. Helps with a monitor of this size too!

Would it not be even better to have it wall mounted on that back wall though?

The better depth between you and the 42 C2 is always going to help imo and it makes such a big difference from going stand on desk to wall mounted, you free up so much space and it just feels more OCD cleaner.
