Log of Peace - My Aesthetic Journey to The Peak of Mt. Olympus

Get back in you phaggot.

Bench 60kg 10 85kg 8 8 90kg 6 6 60kg 10
Inc DB 32.5kg 8 8 8
Pec Fly 57.5kg 12 12 10 50kg 10

Strength gains yet again, didn't even need a spot for the 90s let alone failing the set. Hilariously vascular today, yesterdays 4.5k+ cal barbecue backload added 2.5kg, but filled out nicely. Learning to get chest activation too, win.

Bro, what's this half workout?

Why not structure the sets so you can crank out 90x8x3?

Don't feel like i need anything more for my chest. If i do any more pressing it just turns into shoulder day and we don't have a cable machine or anything to get more isolation out of (which is what i'd need if i were to add anything more).

I like this structure at the moment. It's definitely netting me gains going by past weeks

Bench 60kg 10 80kg 8 8 85kg 6 5
(bit of a gap fannying around with maxes)
Bench 60kg 10 85kg 8 8 90kg 6 4(+2 negs)
Bench 60kg 10 85kg 8 8 90kg 6 6

Next week 87.5kg and 92.5kg sets and 35kg DB

Fair enough. I always work up to a top set and get in the majority of my work at that weight. Don't want lighter weights taking reps away from the top working sets.

It's not like i'm wasting effort on easy weights. Doing 2x8 on the "lighter" weight is still pretty close to a max, within a couple of reps at least. I used to do 3x8, it's just a change of routine and so far seems to be beneficial.

This is true, but don't forget that chest gains are the hardest to have and you just need to be hitting it with crazy volume if you want to add mass. Don't neglect your triceps either, CGBP is a really good exercise.

I will probably add in a couple more sets when bulkin'. Strong doms this morning though.

It is, but it's also really terrible for my wrist aids.

Negative

Well, I'm not completely disagreeing with him, I agree it needs volume, but it seemed he was implying that it needed more volume than any other muscle group, which is false.

A lot of people have lagging chests, sometimes because they don't do enough volume, but I guarantee 90% of the time it's due to people not having good chest activation during exercises. It's so easy to be all triceps, or all front delts on chest exercises, especially if you mostly pressing exercises as opposed to some cable work or machine work.

And then there's the other reason, that a lot of people just don't have great chest genetics

And i know for sure i fall into this category as everyone knows i have mutant shoulders. I'm feeling my chest work more in workouts recently, and as a result i'm seeing chest gains while on a cut and doing less volume than before. Wizardry right.

Once i get it nailed i'll add in more volume because like i said currently any more pressing is not going to be as chest active as i'd like but with practice it'll be good.

Fair enough. I misinterpreted you original post slightly :).

If you ask me, 97.5679% of the time it is poor shoulder mechanics preventing proper pec activation. You are right that it is very easy to move the stimulus onto other muscles that are not the intended target but I think it is because of unhealthy shoulder a lot more often that you would initially think.

Are you able to eloborate on this, in another thread if its more appropriate. I really struggle making my pecs do anything and I do have shoulder issues.
