LTT called out

Will this be Linus's (depending on ones age) Ratner/Noah Katz moment?
I doubt it, but I'd be surprised if he carries the same swagger forward as he did before, even though he's a bit of a narcissist and someone who has zero self awareness, this has to affect him and his close team personally.
For the time being, he should stay low/take a back seat and let Terren Tong hold the reins and ride LMG out of this complete mess.

What? GN even played back the chain of events from June. They agree to pay and were provided a price.
What? No they were not provided a price, no it doesn't go back to June for when LMG auctioned off a prototype that was someone else's property without permission.

You clearly can't read because you wouldn't of just typed that if you could.

The company literally said LMG didn't bother to talk to them about any such compensation until after Steve made the video. They also never actually discussed what compensation was. Just that the value to build said prototype was X. LMG just said they would pay for it following the negative backlash.

Nothing that LMG have done for this has been correct or should be defended in such a manor. They are clearly in the wrong throughout the whole of this and lied about how they responded to the company as if they initiated the response prior to Steve's video.

Short of there being evidence from LMG showing time stamped proof they did try to contact prior to the GN video then they took everyone for a fool and wanted to through the company under the bus over all of this as if they were not to blame on anything.

UPDATE

For full transparency, Linus contacted us this evening saying it's likely he can get the block back from the buyer.

We have declined this offer, and asked for the previously agreed monetary value instead for the following reasons:
1) we have already spent a significant percentage of the value of the block in the last few days on replacement parts to build a new block, assuming we'd never see the original one again.
2) we do not know if the original block is still in good working condition, and how much money will be needed to fix it if it's not.
3) we don't know if any of the bespoke fittings are missing, each of these costs money to replace if they are.
4) LTT have had our 3090ti without using it for 9 weeks, so we have lost confidence that they will return items quickly.
5) LTT isn't currently in possession of the block, they've only said that they can get it back. We therefore don't know when we'd get it back, and time is of the essence.
6) LTT has confirmed that the block is with a private individual rather than a rival company, so lost IP is much less of an issue.

We wanted to state this publicly just in case anyone has any issues with the fact that the block has potentially been found, and we chose to take the money instead. We hope you understand our reasoning here. We can have our new block that we're currently making ready in the next couple of weeks, and we are sceptical that we would have the original block back in fully working condition in that amount of time – it would be a gamble at the very least.

So the company had the opportunity to get their prototype back but went for the money instead of the prototype??

The reasons they list are logical, Plus as they stated given that LTT don't rush anything it could very well be a few more months before they get the block back, Better to get the monetary value as that can be pressed, Then go forward from there.

The dude has issues. Did he go by a different name previously?

No idea but constantly flinging personal insults and put downs at other forum members says a lot about it.

They would want at least a screwdriver and rucksack thrown in. I'd refuse too

It makes total sense for the company to recoup the monetary value of the prototype.

There are several reasons for this
1) physical damage to the prototype
2) design and development of pro typing that is going on else where
3) potential IP theft could have already happened during the period of discussion.

Item 1) possibly let’s say 50/50 due to LTT’s lax attitude towards the product
Item 2) very likely the single block probably isn’t their only prototype and they got another that is developing.
Item 3) also very likely. For anyone who takes an interest in this block, having the coverage it has had. The IP within it is probably the main draw for the bidder

So on the evidence, I probably would take the monetary value and plough that in to R&D also.

It’s a prototype, Linus should know better to auction it off.

For someone to steal the IP on that product isn’t gonna take much. Stick it in a mold or a scanner you can examine it in the virtual design space and model it and understand it very easily.

And you are suggesting what by this statement. Everything they have stated is factual. LMG are at fault here.

There is no way I would take Linus up on his "offer" after the bull that he has done to date! You are mad to think this is a negative to the company or a positive to Linus in any way.

The company had crickets before the GN video.

Actually, no. They had two separate confirmations that the prototype would be returned with the last confirmation promising (but never providing) a tracking number.

Then LTT auctioned it off.

Then they got crickets from LTT.

Then the GN video dropped.

Then a couple hours after the GN video dropped.......THEN....Linus sent an email.

The monetary offer followed that.

And now the "I can get it back." offer.

Well, they were also offered a tracking number and we know how that worked out.
