#MeToo - is it just different for men and women?

He was using it like a kick in the nuts. Its also man on man where are this was man on women. They aren't remotely the same, I don't know why you think they are. If he's kissed her on the forehead or cheeks I'm sure she wouldn't have been so offended but he didn't kiss her there.

I'm really not sure why some of you are defending this guy. Clearly both the player and her team mates found this totally inappropriate. Plus there is a societal shift happening in Spain at the moment so its cultural as well. I would never dream of kissing a women on the lips like this, I've no idea why he thought it would be acceptable.

You're allocating a sexual motive to an action by default that can easily have non-sexual aspect..
Or did grandma used to slip you some tongue?

Spain being one of the few countries to have socially acceptable kiss-based greetings that are limited to cheeks is surely enough of a hint that the lips are off-limits outside of courtship/loving relationships?

No the person being kissed in this case has added the sexual aspect, she felt it was inappropriate and in no way consensual, the guy then lied and said she had said he could kiss her. Clearly he's a lying scum bag.

It wasn't me who tried to compare this to a granny kissing a child, it was a ridiculous comparison.

Apparently not. When you are a man and are very happy you can just kiss women on the lips and its fine, they should just take it and then keep their lips shut about it.

Why go to the extreme? Most people seem to be saying he made a mistake and shouldn't have done it. A sensible way to deal with it would be to apologise, and don't do it again. In the video he's clearly celebrating and kisses her on the cheek, then on the lips. I wouldn't expect her to say anything at that point (it's not easy for everyone when the focus is on you) but later, a simple "yeah it was inappropriate, don't do it again " would have been one way to handle.

Who said or implied "they should just take it and then keep their lips shut about it"...?

How do you know she's telling the truth and he isn't? Again you're making things up that aren't proven to suit your narrative.

I can't imagine with how brief whatever the discourse was between them that consent could ever conceivably be considered to be discussed... not that it matters because only they know what was said assuming they can even remember it with all the commotion.

The moment she said it was inappropriate he should have acknowledged it and apologised, instead he's went off to dig a deeper hole as usual.

Probably asked if a peck was OK, then got carried away leaving her a bit shocked. Inappropriate, but not punishable by death, unless this happened in Afghanistan.

I guess in theory if you kiss your wife without asking you could be charged for sexual assault and lose your job if she turns around and says that she didn't consent to the kiss one day

Only if it was a woman initiating it. Or it was man on man.

But should that country have been brought in as Im fairly sure you can be executed for listening to music.
Next year the Taliban are going to completely ban women.

Today it's reported that they've banned them from a national park for being too female.

Lovely place.

No, I don't think you can. But perhaps they don't like particular types of music more than others.

Point was more about overreacting. Yes it was inappropriate, but seems a bit much - based on this instance - the way it's been handled.

Also interesting that the point of this thread was about essentially double standards and when the example of Gazza was given it was somewhat dismissed...

Im fairly sure if they werent muslims they would be welcomed here with open arms like a recent Tory MP did.

Conservative Tobias Ellwood has expressed regret and deleted a video in which he praised the Taliban for tackling opium and corruption after he faced criticism from fellow MPs.

The Commons Defence Committee chairman was condemned by a fellow Conservative member of the cross-party group for the “utterly bizarre” clip “lauding” the Taliban’s governance of

Taliban chief spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid praised Mr Elwood’s “positive” report from Helmand province, which the MP has now removed from Twitter.

Sky News understands the MPs told him to stand down or they would table the no confidence motion.

Mr Ellwood apologised this morning after posting the video on social media earlier this week.

If you cant see the difference between what happened on the field between two players and what happened when the head of their FA planted a kiss on a female player after the match I cant help you.
