More PS3's sold than the 360 in Europe

Not surprising at all tbh

In the US MS outsells nearly everyone without even trying

In Europe, its always been predominantly Sony (even if they persist in releasing anything new in Europe last of the major regions)

Im glad Nintendo whacked the ball out of the park - hopefully that will urge Sony and MS to really push themselves next time around before a Wii HD comes out

Im not sure if the PS3 will last as long or as well as the PS2 (even given the 12 months world wide roll out) - not even from the amount sold, just from the time it will be in the market place

Don't think I have to, it's pretty bloody obvious.

It was a geniune question btw because although I now own a PS3 I have never owned a sony console before so I am not clued up to how awfull Sony have been in the past.

My general impression has always been that Sony produce great consoles and offer a decent range of games produced at a high standard, but obviously some people have issues with the way they conduct themselves?

This one is interesting as it says that Sony are confident of outselling all other current gen consoles during the lifespan of the PS3. I think this may be referring to Sonys 10 year investment in the PS3 and the possibility that if a new Xbox came out then the 360 gets dropped just like the original Xbox.

Sony are still supporting, manufacuring & selling lots of PS2s so this may add weight to Sonys claim.

Maybe they hope to outsell the Wii in much the same way.

microsoft only dropped the xbox due to the unrealistic money the graphics chip company wanted and would not lower it so they could not reduce the price like ps2 has done

It's more the fact they treat Europe as the Black Sheep of the console market. They give us everything last, charge us more for it and often give us less for it too (such as removing the EE chip from PS3's). This has been the case for all their consoles and a lot of their games too (we waited 4 months for GT5P for example).

ill say hand on heart, gaming on the ps3 is probably as good as its likely to be

wow, that's a pretty bold statement, you honestly think the PS3 has hit it's peak already in gaming ?, we've barely scratched the surface yet, so far we've only had one really big exclusive released and that was GT5P, we've got 6 more coming out within the next 12 months, not only that if the PS2 is anything to go by we've got a lot to look forward to, not only in terms of better games, but actual better development of the games.

I dont think it'll match the 360 for the quality of titles. it could have been so much more

Why are you talking about it in past tenths ?, "could have been so much more" the potential for it be so much more is still viable, people keep forgetting the 360 was out 1 whole year before the PS3, that makes a big difference, even saying that you've no doubt already read that the PS3 has outsold the 360 in Europe, so thats the EU and the Asian market covered, that just leave NA now.

i reckon they'll stay unreliable until the new console is released as MS have shown no intention of fixing things.

Well even though I'm a PS3 user I'll stick up for Microsoft here, they definitely do show that their fixing things, just not as efficiently as they should be, the falcon machines are a step in the right direction and they have other revisions in the pipeline, theres no denying the failure rate has lowered on the 360's greatly since the initial problems they were having, I'm not saying they shouldn't be doing more than they are atm but at the same time there not doing nothing.

Having the PS3 released a year after the Xbox360 means nothing, if anything, it's a problem for Sony. It's newer, yet the games coming out for it don't represent a years extra technology because it's not, it's pretty much the same technology, but even now, when games are being made multi-format the PS3 isn't pulling away, in fact, it's not really going anywhere, they are either the same or inferior (even if only slightly).

I know your not stupid so excuse me for telling you what you probably already know, and that is that pretty much every game that has been released as multi-platform has had the lead development on the 360 and then ported across to the PS3, usually with no real optimisations done to the code, there are a few exceptions to the rule like COD4, Burnout Paradise for example, but then these titles were pretty much identical on both systems which are prime examples that the PS3 can do just as well when optimised properly.

But with that said, I'm not saying Sony are not to blame in this respect because I know from listening to many pod-casts from different developers that Sony this time round were really dragging their heals when it came to working with developers and even issuing them with a ps3 development kit, many had their hands on the Microsoft's development kit a good year earlier, thats one of the reasons why I say the year lead helped,

Microsoft jumped in early this time around and struck up healthy relations with many big publishers/developers and it's paid off so far but I still believe that Sony can turn it around, well, maybe not turn it around, level the playing field at least, they've already halved the cost of the PS3 development kit back in 07 as an incentive for developers but we won't see the effect of that for a while yet.

Also don't forget about the PhyreEngine that Sony was pimping out at GDC this year, (the same engine that Dirt was developed on), A completely free multi-platform engine from SCE that is apparently very easy to develop on, more information here http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/21/gdc08-phyreengine-sonys-new-free-cross-platform-engine/.

Simple reason why more PS3s have been sold is that their more reliable than the old 360s, it has a free online gaming network and its a newer console (in technology terms). Tbh im not a fan of either console but ive gotta hand it to Sony for outselling the 360 even if it does use a technology that is a bit useless atm and when it was introduced cost more than the moon. Thumbs up Sony. :D lol

If Microsoft ever had a chance of winning the console war this time round, they've almost certainly blown it with the RROD. Doesn't matter if it's fixed its legacy will remain with them until the end of the 360's lifespan, and even if they decide to do a next next gen, people will just be that little more warey.

Unfortunately 10mil UK/US loyal xbox followers are simply not enough to keep the console and brand alive, with all the bad press aimed at the general punter public that it has rec'd

The 1 billion cost last ditch effort at adding 3yrs warranty was the final stake.

What we are seeing here is the last of the best days for the 360.. From here onwards it will slowly slide down and down the hill and the PS3 climbs and climbs.

Utter rubbish, the games show that its not sliding anywhere

utter rubbish?? then why is the ps3 already outselling it?

The original xbox was deemed a failure by microsoft.. They said this is just the stepping stone for the next console aka the 360.. yet though it started off on a good start, it's now been halted.. Contracts are in place so the games will continue, but if the overall sales are starting to show slowness then its dead

I think that's what he said though.. the ports are roughly identical at best, a bit ropey at worst? sounds like a fair appraisal.. It's no secret that Sony lofted the PS3 as much higher performing then the 360, which given the years delay may have been worth the wait, however, despite an extra year, the technology yields no extra practical performance..

I don't think the 360 is sliding anywhere. Fable 2, Gears of War 2, Resident Evil 5, Alan Wake and I'm pretty sure there are others I've not thought of. All coming to 360 soon.

PS3 is rising up now, Which is great. But just because one console is improving, I don't understand why people automatically see the other one as a falling console.
