NEARLY 2 WEEKS WAITING: Nissan GT-R is finally mine!

NO, N1, N2 all same, they don't technically exist yet, so I too would expect him to have an issue.

But 295/35/20 K1 does exist and 285/35/20 exist as you got it on your car. :p

Yea, he mentioned they had the K1 on stocklists, the 285/35/20 I have is £204 ;)

So its coming up to the first year of ownership, so thought I would share the breakdown of the main costs.

  • Servicing October: £845.44
  • Servicing Feb: £172.66
  • Piston clip upgrade + mag kit upgrade: £299.47
  • Tyres (2 rears and a set of 4): £1212.98
  • New Brakes and Discs: £1149.00
  • Petrol (approx £50 a week when evened out over winter): £2600
  • Insurance: £855.02
  • Tax: £540.75

Total: £7,675.32
Monthly: £639.61
Weekly: £159.90

Excluding Petrol as YMMV

Total: £5075.32
Monthly: £422.94
Weekly: £105.73

Which, given some big things there, I would imagine next year to be something like this:

  • Servicing October: £250.66
  • Servicing Feb: £172.66
[*]Piston clip upgrade + mag kit upgrade: £299.47
    [*]Tyres (2 rears and a set of 4): £1212.98
    [*]New Brakes and Discs: £1149.00
  • Petrol (approx £50 a week when evened out over winter): £2600
    [*]Insurance: £855.02
  • Insurance: £650.00
  • Tax: £540.75

Total: £4,214.07
Monthly: £351.17
Weekly: £87.79

Excluding Petrol as YMMV

Total: £1614.07
Monthly: £134.50
Weekly: £33.62

Those costs are a lot lower than I would have expected. Are there any big ticket items that the car is likely to throw up?

wanders off to Autotrader to look at GT-Rs

A long as the AWD system, the clutch and the engine dont go bang, then no.

If you get one recently having had a big service, has good discs, pads and tyres, you'll be laughing for the first couple of years.

Is that with VAT?

If so that price is banging, they are £255 - £300 everywhere else!

Can he deliver them at that price?

£204 was inc VAT and fitted.

That price is to his unit only, anything past that would be down to you, either to come and collect/have fitted there or arrange shipping. I don't mind sticking them in the back of the land rover and wrapping them if you want to go down that route.

What is his postcode buddy?

Not too far will see what he says about the rears, though I am still awaiting a confirmation from Michelin as to what if anything was changed to meet K1 specification as some of the Ferrari tyres have the wall and tread pattern altered.

Yea, its not a bad run :)

Will get the prices up soon as he calls me in the morning.

Thanks buddy.

285/35/20 will definetely work for my fronts. :)

295/35/20 K1 getting mixed feedback, a contact within Michelin has said the K1 tyre is specific to Ferrari and not just a badge on it and its not recommended for none Ferrari vehicles. Whereas NO (Porsche) marked tyres are also fine for other vehicles.

So I have three options:

285/35/20 all round, risk of looking stretched on the rear 11" wheels.

Chance the 295/35/20 K1 Ferrari tyres on the rear, standard fitment on the new GT4C Lusso and they are still same load rating of 105 as regular MPSS NO tyre. Wet rating is B instead of A, so its either compound change of the tread is shaved from new to save weight.

Or stick with MPSS NO on the rear and wait for that 295/35/20 PS4 NO as again rumour suggest it could be a PS4s marked as PS4 for Porsche approval purposes.

This whole K1 Ferrari approval specification from Michelin is annoying, Michelin reps will tell you its fine, but the tyre designer will tell you its a bad idea, yet all the companies selling it and the way its advertised suggest its fine on none Ferrari vehicle.

All a bit meh, gonna give it some thought over a few days.

Or 315/35/20 PS4 N in the back, be like a truck tyre, lol. :D

Unless Ferrari have some super secret system in place, I literally couldn't see what the difference would be, they still after all have to conform to specs for the markings.

Which is what is making it confusing. :(

I think your contact in Michelin is probably spitting out the corporate drivel he has to for legal reasons.

Obviously the sales people will tell you anything to sell you something.

But at the end of the day, the tyres have to meet legal requirements to get the stamps on size, load rating, speed rating. The only differences otherwise will be the tweaks Ferrari have made, which, from what I understand most K1 tyres will have less tread to reduce weight, and the compound/pattern may be slightly different to be more suited to track/hard driving. Any improvements they make there will be a bonus to you... its not like they have microchips in the rubber which change how the tyre acts when fitted to a Ferrari....

I think you may be overthinking things :D

Well this tyre was designed for the new Ferrari GT4C Lusso T:
http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-ne...lusso-t-twin-turbo-v8-unveiled-pictures-info/

The spec of that car dynamically is very similar to my car:
- 10.5" vs 11" rear wide wheel
- RWD vs RWD
- 600HP vs 500HP
- 1700kg vs 1650kg
- Both GT/Sport class
- 105Y load for both vehicles

The important stuff, weight, RWD, vehicle class are very similar and its the rear I want to stick them.

They are not directional or asymmetrical tyres so not being designed to work with the fronts, so looking at it from a logical point of view I cannot see why they'd not work personally.

I can only suspect is as you say less tread to weigh less is no doubt the major change and the tyre walls look nice and chunky on those 10.5" so should look fine on my 11", should not be stretched at all.
