NFL 2017 Season

suprised by the size of the rams win, while the seahawks were without most of their secondary i wouldn't have expected the score.

still can't understand why the packers are chancing rodgers, he was looking awkward most of the game, just hope they don't regret playing him.

makes a change that there arn't 2-3 teams who look much better than the others, some defeats have come into play, players getting injured etc, this is one of the more interesting seasons for me in a while.

:D

he did try the fake spike, no one bought it tho

According to Ben in the post game interview he wanted to spike it but good old Todd Haley said go for it. It definitely was a broken play either way as only Eli Rodgers was in the end zone. Throwing into triple coverage was stupid on Ben's part though. He should have just chucked it out of the back of the end zone and settled for OT.

So many missed chances for the Steelers to win the game, and now they are going to have to do it the hard way if they want to get to the superbowl.

yep thought we lost it twice

Titans losing with the last kick of the game to a hopeless 49er's, That is why they will never be anything more than a "making up the numbers" sort of team, they kind of lack heart, fight and when the going gets tough they bugger off!

Yeah, I could go with average. Place them 16th on a power rankings would be okay, if not a little generous. We don't really know until they've played a few more (better) teams with Jimmy G.

Hmm, not that I'm saying it's right, but possibly the dive was a football move rather than part of the actual catch? Jesse James seemed a bit more the dive being part of the catch, so need to maintain through going to the ground?

simple he became a runner after he caught the ball james didn't

He stumbles forward and dives into the end zone. Also he didn't survive the ground with the ball.

I personally don't think it matters that much as we would more than likely lose the rematch whether at Heinz Field or Gillette Stadium. Just would have been nice to finally beat Brady and co.

That's what we're saying, he didn't need to, that was his football move, not the catch. He broke the plane, anything can be done then...

I always assumed to become a runner a receiver had to make a turn upfield ? In the video above it looks more like he stumbled forward and then dived across the goal line. He is also going towards the ground. I would say it is very similar to the James non catch.

If a running back only has to cross the plane with the ball then it should be the same for a receiver imo. They are making it more complicated than it needs to be.

Anyway like I said above it won't make a difference to the playoff picture unless one of the other teams (Chiefs, Ravens or Jags) can stop Brady with their Defense. The Chiefs have already done it once this season so fingers crossed :D

That is the same for everyone, but you must have what is deemed to be possession for it to count. This is what differs in the two 'catches'.

How is the grimble catch any different ? He is going to the ground and then loses the ball same as James. Surely he has to maintain possession ?

Even the Steelers analysts said it was a catch (Of course they might be biased somewhat)

I agree that as the rules are currently implemented, it was consistent with other catches that are ruled 'not a touchdown'. The reason frequently given is that a player must 'survive the ground'.

However nowhere in the NFL rulebook does 'survive the ground' appear. The actual wording is that a player must maintain possession after initial contact with ground.

With the Jesse James non-TD his initial contact with the ground was when his knee hit the ground. He then made an additional movement forwards.

I'm not claiming that it should have been ruled a TD, because referees have been consistent in overruling similar catches. I just wonder if the rulebook is badly worded as referees aren't implementing the rules as set out in the rulebook.

Is there any wonder everyone is confused.
