Has anyone had their charging port on their switch fail? Ours has somehow got some broken pins so will need replacing. I’m quite competent with a soldering iron but this looks tricky. Any idea on costs or recommendations as to where to send it for repair?

I'm pretty sure a chap at work paid ~£80 for Nintendo to do it, he returned it under warranty but it was ultimately due to his kids playing it while it was charging and they damaged the port. Hence the charge from Nintendo :)
(and the subsequent ban on playing it when it needs to charge)

Currently ploughing through XC1. I took a hiatus after about 50 hours in, and now up to about 80 hours and it feels like I am close to the end.

The combat does feel a bit 'samey', however really enjoying it and it feels like the story is starting to come together and conclude.

I have collected and completed pretty much ANY side quest I can get more hands-on, and also trying to finish each area's collectibles.

Overall so far, thoroughly enjoying it.

Anyone else picking up Bayonetta 3?
Late to reply to this, picked up the Trinity Masquerade edition as I have the special edition for Bayonetta 2 on switch, some original sound tracks and the two amiibo figures (sealed). Love the series.

Enjoyed the game immensely but there were a few hours of the game I didn't enjoy as much and felt like a bit of a chore.
The combat with Viola was an awful experience compared to fluid witch time dodging of Bayonetta herself

I have seen people going through a range of emotions on the ending as well, I liked it personally.
Considering the Bayonetta we've played over the first 3 games turned out to be a different Bayonetta from another multiverse then why wouldn't Bayonetta 4 follow a similar thing? I can't see them having Viola (with the family name now) being the main character, I just can't. Encouraging it suggests it'll come to a new Switch though at the end credits.

I fix many of these every week. It's a very common failure point.

My 8 year old son has got into Pokemon with a few of his friends and are collecting cards and he's asking Santa for a game for his Switch......what is the difference between Sword and Shield? Or is there a better Pokemon game to get as a starter?

Pokémon games tend to come in two editions and have slightly different Pokémon within them. Some are only available one one and vide versa, the idea is that you trade with someone who has the other edition.

Sword and shield are essentially the same game.

There is a new one it this week, violet and scarlet I think.

I’ll let someone else make a recommendation for an 8 year old.

We've got all of them so far I think as my son is eight and also a Pokemon fan. I'd definitely put Pokemon Sword at the top of his played list and from our house they go something like this -

  • Pokémon Scarlet/Violet - Landing soon, looks the most like Pokémon Sword so far and we are looking forward to it
  • Pokémon Legends: Arceus - Far too much text and plot, found it boring with all the dialogue
  • Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl - Retro Pokémon for those who have fond memories of the original games, not enough 3D content
  • New Pokémon Snap - Guided on rails photography, it was forgotten within minutes of play as it's supposed to be relaxing and eight year olds don't do relaxing
  • Pokémon Sword/Shield - These are essentially the same game, the main difference is the Pokémon in each and to complete the Pokédex you need both games or a friend to trade with - main differences are here so if they have a favourite Pokémon then check if it is one of the games and go for that one - https://www.nintendolife.com/guides...all-version-exclusive-pokemon-and-gym-leaders
  • Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu!/Eevee! - Like Pokémon Go but on the Switch, there is a demo available in the store but there isn't a lot of content for the game and it doesn't have a lot of replay value

He still goes back to Sword but I'll know more about Violet this weekend. If you're thinking of buying more than one game then the two games for £84 offer that Nintendo do is worthwhile, I stopping buying physical carts a while back and £42 for a digital copy of most games is good value as they charge you more for not owning the cartridge...

It's worth checking prices on any games in that deal before purchase though. :)

Fancy adding another one to your list of jobs?

On a serious note, how easy is it to fix? I can solder although this looks very small and I expect quite fiddly.

12 hidden pins... If you have never done one before then yea its tricky. If you want a port swap though I would be happy to do it for you. I buy ports in bulk and they cost 0.60p and it takes no more than 15 mins to swap one over. Often a broken port can take out either the power management IC (M92T36) or the video IC as the data lines are directly connected to the video chip while the power goes off to the main power IC. If it still works on battery though then yea it likely just a port swap.

Put simply unless you have a microscope, hot air station and have had plenty of practice then dont even touch it. Send it to somebody that has as fixing all the ripped pads is a pain... In fact I have these special little repair pads now just for that job so I don't have to run massive numbers of jumpers.

I’m sure it’s just the port as it’s you can see the bent pins and everything else works. Real pain and reluctant to send it over to Nintendo as they want up to £120!
