*** Nintendo Switch ***

I just wish they'd stop with all the screens in console milarky. They should have two versions of the console. One with a screen for £280, and another just for under the telly for say £200. I don't need the screen, the rare times I might possibly need that screen are few and far between, I just want to play Zelda on the telly.

It's just like kinect for me, some might like it, but there's a large group that'll never need or use it.

I've never thought about this until now but i'd imagine theres a very high chance of this happening in the future. Especially since Nintendo is fond of bringing out additional versions of their consoles each generation :p

We will probably end up with the 'home console' version above for around the price you've stated, the current Switch and an updated version which may have a bigger screen, better battery life and specs etc etc similar to how we have the 2DS,3DS XL and the new 3DS. This is assuming the Switch doesn't bomb but i doubt thats going to happen as Nintendo has enough fans to keep it afloat.

Worst case scenario they can simply lower prices on the console. The Switch hardware isn't anything like the PS3 where Sony was estimated to be losing $300 per console on release. Nintendo has enough pennies in the bank and they're probably drawing even on the console cost so they have plenty of freedom with how they price the hardware.

Yeh so voice chat on your phone and game sound through the device. Anyone see the problem when you need to stick headphones in for game sound.

Have just watched a video showing Snipperclips. I have to say for someone looking for local multiplayer fun (like me!) it looks great. Easy to stick on for a quick game or play for longer :)

Plus I love puzzle games!

By all accounts that seems to be an eshop game so I'll be picking it up when it's available!

Despite me being critical of the console i did place a preorder for Zelda and the case on Amazon last night. It was mainly so i didnt lose £10 offer on Amazon that was available yesterday. Whether or not i will cancel in the future is unknown, I haven't preordered the console yet but I imagine if i do preorder I may have to wait until after release now due to the amount of people buying the console only to sell it on for profit. I'm more than happy to wait until after release as the alternative of handing over a single penny to a scalper would make my blood boil.

I can see it now. the 10 year olds or whatever that get the console and don't have a smartphone.

"Muuuuum can I borrow your phone so I can play Mario Kart with Billy?"

You only need a smart device (such as a cheap tablet) to make it work I believe I heard. I know plenty of people whose 10 year olds (or younger) have cheap android tablets.

For anyone whos interested, Game has a bundle for the Grey Switch with Zelda for £320, which means you're effectively getting a must have title for £40 which is £10 below its usual price. From the looks of it the preorders for this version are in stock and should be available on release but no such luck with the Neon version

Haha. We don't know if that will be the case though.

Lets look at how things are on Wii U for games like MK8, Splatoon & Smash.
In addition to random matchmaking you can join friends, and in the case of Splatoon create a party with 4 friends to go up against other premade groups. This functionality is implemented in-game rather than the OS, and without having to multitask out.

So in this case an app would add chat, lobby/party management, and additional social features to already integrated in game multiplayer functions.

Basically, we don't know exactly what in-game functionality games will have independant of the app.

Will wait a bit. I also do not have an xbox one or ps4, only a new 3ds xl (the new is a terrible name differentiator).

I don't have enough faith in Nintendo to buy pre order. It it flops in a few months no good games will materialise.

All I want is zelda, Mario kart, new pokemons and portable local coop (say me and gf camping).

Not interested in online multilayer. It's why I don't own a ps4/xbox 1

Hmmmmm

I'm really interested in the switch, especially now my 4 year old is getting into Nintendo type/fun multiplayer games and the wife also enjoys stuff like bomberman and sonic.

Just that price though, gonna need a couple of extra controllers/sets of joy cons, plus the console, plus games. Not going to get much change from 500 quid

Last console was an original Xbox and not really been interested in gaming since.

The price of extra controllers etc sure do add up,everything is way overpriced.

My guess Nintendo is trying to recapture the market that they had with the Wii. The casual gamers, the ones that isn't really bothered about online multiplayer (which was not the Wii's strong point or any Nintendo product really) and if they could get even 1/3rd of the sales they would have a hit on their hand.

Hardcore single player who likes online play clearly isn't their main focus, everything on the preview so far is about local multiplayer and mobile gaming.

So to compare it to PS4 or Xbox1's strong point is like saying the PS4 can't be play on the go...both are obvious, and both are not it's core intention.

They're not guaranteed. The 10 off 50 offer at Amazon was good, got Zelda for 38 with it.

As to all the debate, I buy Nintendo for their IP, particularly Zelda. It's no different to having to own multiple systems for differing reasons every generation.

yeah, local 2 player can be run through the two joycons if you want.

I assume for ARMS you'll need a completely different pad / joycon set for best results

However you cannot tell is these are phase 1 pre-orders

Second edit:

The Neon doesn't appear to be 'Please Note: We have reached our initial allocation of this product, but we are working with Nintendo to bring in more stock for launch day. Pre-order now to ensure you'll get your Nintendo Switch as soon as it becomes available. '
