*** Nintendo Switch ***

I hope they do a load of online co-op, vs games like the old Bomberman, Final Fight, etc. tons of potential really. Don't think this will be powerful enough to emulate a Gamecube, in fact I'm 99% sure it won't be able to, unless it has a custom chip. Still SNES games will do for me :)
You can emulate GameCube games on a Tegra X1 tablet with better resolution (1080p) and frame rate than the original. This will be very easy to do on the switch.

I find it more strange that some report huge frame rate issues and others say it runs absolutely fine.

When I played yesterday I didn't notice much of the frame rate issues, today however the frame rate in Zelda is terrible. It's strange as I don't recall it being bad when I finished using it yesterday yet it was immediiatly noticable this morning. I've turned it off/on but still the same, not a good start!

Interesting video :)

Wow that video is insanely annoying - takes 3 minutes to even approach the points it is getting to. Neat ideas but pipe dreams tbh - augmented reality for games using both controllers and that on your head? As in your supposed to walk around outside? It'll never ever happen - H&S nightmare. It also won't have the power to do full VR so the idea of sitting still on your couch doing it is a no - as the video points out.

Docked or undocked? Seems to be an issue with it upscaling when docked from what I've read. Also saw someone saying to try set it to output 720p on tv and it helped. The switch is a great idea let down by poor hardware in my opinion. I'll be picking one up when it drops in price slightly.

Watching a steam of someone playing 1-2-Switch.

My GOD that is terrible. Such crappy little mini games. Even for a party game its garbage. And its selling for nearly £40?! From what I've seen I wouldn't pay £10 for it!

Can be had for £30 if you look in the right places also I think it's a game you need to try for yourself with mates to actually enjoy.

I probably put around 2.5hrs into it yesterday with my brother and mate and had a blast with it! Some of the tech is genuinely impressive, the games can be genuinely fun too! I would hope they bring some sort of demo out with a few of the games as it would be possible!

So Nintendo have posted some official guidance for the situation where the Joycon has intermittent problems.

Nintendo said:
What to Do:
Try these steps:

  • Ensure the Joy-Con controllers are charged. How to
  • Try to decrease the distance between the Joy-Con and the Nintendo Switch console.
  • Ensure that the Nintendo Switch console is placed to minimize interference with the Joy-Con. It is best if the Nintendo Switch console is placed out in the open and that it is not:
    • Behind a TV
    • Near an aquarium
    • Placed in or under a metal object
    • Pressed against a large amount of wires and cords
    • Within three to four feet of another wireless device, such as a wireless speaker or a wireless access point.
  • Check for possible sources of interference and turn them off. Interference can be caused by devices, such as:
    • Laptops, tablets, etc.
    • Wireless headsets
    • Wireless printers
    • Microwaves
    • Wireless speakers
    • Cordless phones
    • USB 3.0-compatible devices such as hard drives, thumb drives, LAN adapters, etc.
  • In most cases it will be enough to move these devices three to four feet away from the Nintendo Switch console and/or Joy-Con controllers. However, if you continue to experience this issue, please power these devices off while using the Nintendo Switch console.

So there we have it. No fix, no patch and no realistic solution. Console has to be docked, out in the open, away from a TV or any other wireless device with you sat as close to it as possible. Unacceptable I'm afraid.

This is a complete non-answer (not that I'm having problems, but I've been using it exclusively in handheld mode). It's all general advice to avoid interference with the 2.4Ghz band Bluetooth uses. If interference were the cause it wouldn't be just the left Joy-Con that is having the problems. Equally people playing with the Pro Controller or with other devices such as a PS4 have shown it's not an interference issue.

Most likely it's either there's a faulty batch of left Joy-Con or, for some reason, the left has a much weaker signal than the right so it's more susceptible to interference/distance.

Nintendo's attitude to this is pretty atrocious IMO.

Game runs rock solid 30fps in handheld and when you set TV output to 720p. It only drops frames when it's trying to output at 1080p (900p) docked.

Actually that is the difference probably, yesterday I was playing it as a portable either on the desk as a screen or later as a handheld. Today I went straight to playing it on the TV. Pretty disappointing :(

Just an update to my post above but tested the left Joy-Con in desktop mode. 7.5 metres away, with plenty of things (some of them metallic) in the way and the Joy-Con behind my back. It took this to get a slight stutter in the calibration test when rotating it around. Only minor skips and caught back up with itself. So no issues for me

I got a grey Switch so maybe it's all those blue left Joy-Cons? :p

I genuinely wondered if there was any merit to the blue ones being worse? :D

I don't know if I'd describe it as disappointing as it's technically impressive it runs so well on the hardware at 900p and let's face it a lot of Xbox One games are rendered well below 1080p then upscaled. I can't help but feel they should have rendered at 720p docked and smoothed off the jaggies with a filter or something.

Edit; I suppose the option for framerate over resolution is there for you to select under TV output. The game isn't horrid looking in 720p even on a 4k screen.

Try setting tv output to 720p to see if it helps. Not ideal but would prefer that to poor frame rate.

This x10000!

The amount of times I tap B thinking it's 'A' or 'X'. LOL.

+1 my brain is struggling to adapt to the whole concept of pressing A to select stuff!

1 2 switch looks like it works be good fun and it would be nice to have a more casual game to play with the missus but I don't think I'd be willing to pay more than £20 for it so I'll wait until it's on sale or available second hand.

I was going to get mine today but I cancelled the order last night :(

I've pretty much said to myself when we see the switch tapping into GeForce now or similar I will buy one, until then it doesn't make much sense.

I can't see it not happening, there's no way Nintendo will get enough developers on board if the console can't deliver the grunt when needed. 720p is a joke by today's standards.

The situation with the joycon controllers isnt looking good, maybe a recall will be needed?

The left joy-con issue is pretty annoying, I played Zelda for ~4 hours and had two instances where the left joy-con stopped working correctly for about 20-30 seconds. I was sat only 2m from the console in direct line of sight. Nintendo are going to have a bit of a battle on their hands I think.

Everything else is very impressive, console itself is smaller than I expected, the joy-cons feel good separately although not as comfortable as the XB1/PS4 for extended periods. I'll probably pick up a pro controller as it'll be more comfortable and hopefully won't have any connectivity issues.

Agree with the above posters on the back to front buttons, a shame they don't allow for remapping the controls in Zelda as they are totally different to Horizon Zero Dawn so it's quite a switch (no pun intended) when they are both open world games with jumping, sprinting, bows and melee weapons!

The joycons seem fine to me and that's from about 5 feet away with the dock sitting above a sky q box / ps4 / Xbox one / shield / Apple TV and on a wifi network with about 15 wireless clients connected.

I should also mention that I have both a neon and grey switch and they both seem fine.

Zelda looks pretty amazing considering it's on a handheld, so don't get the issue with graphics / frame rate either.

Going back to my issue with dust in the screen of my neon console, I've since discovered that the grey one (that I was going to return) doesn't have this problem, so am potentially planning on keeping this one and returning the neon console in the greys place... from what I can see, the console serial isn't tied to the joycons and the only place on the box that quotes that console serial is the top tray, which can simply be switched over between the boxes. Any fault to this logic?
