*** Nintendo Switch ***

They said they were gonna give up trying to pander to casuals, yet they're putting out another underpowered gimmick. Very disappointed. And of course they have to take a shot at their base of real gamers at the top of the ad, making sure absolutely everyone knows they're no longer welcome in the new beige IKEA salad-eating world of Nu-tendo.

I don't know if I'd bother even if they put out a proper Metroid game. If it was bundled under £300 then like 90% chance though.

Or you could just carry the cartridges for whatever games you want to play?

Realistically going backwards and forwards to work how many games do you need? :p

Naturally you can carry carts for the games you have on carts...eShop downloads not so much. I suspect the Wii-U port overs wont be carts, they'll be downloads for example. I'd wager they'll be putting they're most stellar Wii U games over to the switch sooner rather then later to avoid a slow trickle of games, so there is high potential to go well over 32Gb.

All speculation though, think we'll get a heavy flow of info over the next week

I just can't see people want to carry around a handheld gaming device.

I see there are only two markets now.

Dedicated home console gaming.
Mobile phone gaming.

Can't see it working. I think the portable side will be underused.

Not in Japan it won't be. Handheld gaming is huge there, and that is their larger market.

Even if you don't use it as a handheld much, it's still a console. That's the great thing about it.

I don't see the point at all at what Nintendo are doing.

Its dog biscuits with a joystick on! What is it with them tiny controllers ??

I don't want to play skyrim on the move am happy with angry birds on my mobile.

I just don't see the point and if its powered by a NVidia chip I might as well use my mobile phone.

Oh and I can see that screen getting scratched to bits popping it in and out of the dock station.

Battery life is the most important for what they are trying to achieve, what is the battery life of the controllers and screen?

Nintendo release rubbish consoles and have done since the Wii. Sony and Microsoft have nothing to worry about that's for sure. ;)

Nintendo should just make a high powered home games console and get back to the olden days, instead of all these stupid quirky gimmicks.

WOW. Way to miss the point!

Are they competing with Sony/MS? NOPE.

I'm sure they have thought about battery power, screen scratches. Not like they've sunk millions into the product for not a single person to consider these.

It's been announced it'll be a 9series GPU. So better than your phone. You CAN'T run MK, Mario, Zelda on your phone.

Plus what is going to happen to pokemon on this! :D

Looks great but no way will it be powerful enough for proper AAA 3rd party title support.

Nintendo need to throw all their 1st party line up into this from the bell.

I know this has probably already been responded to (the thread's too big!) but the biggest advantage for this generation is no separation between console and hand held.

All the great 3DS or WiiU type games will now be focused on this platform.

I think it'll do ok. People who like the 3DS will buy it. People who bought the wii u will buy it. I can't see it succeeding on a PS4/XBONE scale, simply because it's now releasing mid cycle.

Third party support will be interesting. Can't see them being that keen to work on a different architecture unless the install base becomes large enough to be profitable.

It needs to launch with decent games. Mario & Zelda at least, luckily it looks like that will be the case.

I think this is exactly the direction Nintendo should be taking, it makes so much sense for them especially with the 3DS having done well.

I want more info on the dock, still not clear if it boosts performance but it does have what looks like 2 USB ports on the side. Considering the size of the dock, there must be more to it than just supplying data connections.

So games we can make out from the video...
LOZ: BOTW
Skyrim Remastered
Mario Kart 8 (eShop wii U version)
NBA 2K17
Mario (looks like a new incarnation of mario 64?)
Splatoon (eShop wii u version)

MK8/Splatoon will almost certainly be updated versions for the Switch. The video also showed content for these games which is not present in the Wii U version (e.g. King Boo).

There are also going to be more games than this at launch for sure. Good chance of some announcements over the coming weeks.

Exactly. This is huge - I am so glad the hybrid rumours turned out to be true.

They're off to a good start on that front, official partnerships sample:

Well I'll get one. Little worried about the size of it as a portable though, seems maybe a little too big? And that screen gonna require a fair amount of power. Kinda wish the portable aspect was a bit smaller, but will see when I play with one.

I bet the is some hack to get them running on an android phone! :D

What is going to happen to Pokemon go?
They just made a bigger screen for it that's all.

Am none console owner, well the is a Wii somewhere in the house but that's it.
I hacked that to death because it was total rubbish.

Nintendo have lost the plot with consoles, they should stick to making games which they are very good at I might add. ;)

You're not going to get them to run on Android phones....

Just like you can't with Wii U games.

Pokemon go will continue. I think you're confused to what is going on.

Exactly what I wanted from Nintendo.

People are blowing the handheld feature outta proportion, how many folk do you see walking the street with a DS or Vita? It's more the convenience of continuing your game away from the TV for whatever reason. Not everyone has a dedicated man cave so when the Mrs wants the TV it's no problem.

Hopefully it consolidates Nintendo's handheld games and home console games on to one platform and finally... a normal controller!!! :D

Very little chance it has backwards compatibility.

I kinda want one. I dont necessarily get truly portable with my handheld devices, but I do like to play them in bed or on the couch while others are watching something on TV. This would be a cool way to do that.

And as things will essentially combine the efforts of Nintendo's console and mobile teams, it should mean a whole lot more content. And should also be more attractive for 3rd party developers who essentially get to create a console and a handheld version of their game without any extra work.

Dont want to pay more than $300, though. At Day 1, I'd buy it. Otherwise I'll wait til it drops in price.

This man gets it!
