*** Nintendo Switch ***

I just want to play the games on my HDTV, as per any other home console. A glorified tablet with poor battery life doesn't really appeal to me.

Surely I'm not the only one who would prefer to use the Switch as a conventional home console? I can't honestly see it ever leaving the dock.

I wouldn't buy a Wii-U now unless you specifically wanted the back catalogue. You might as well pony up the extra and get something that isn't discontinued. The line up will only get better over time :)
Bit difficult to call it discontinued when they have just released Zelda on it yesterday. Whose to say they won't keep supporting it for a little while at least? As things stand, the Wii U is much better value for money over the switch imo.

Thats not what the Switch is.

Its a dedicated gaming console/Tablet with good battery life for the hardware.

I'd imagine the majority of people on here are aware of the resolution difference but the GPU also has 2+ times the grunt docked and this should have been enough to make up the difference.
Why? If the increase in resolution and effects has any increased load for the CPU (which they often do) then it is feasible that using the full GPU power can still result in a decrease in frame rate as the CPU speed never changes.

But higher res doesn't just need a higher clocked GPU. You need more memory and more memory bandwidth. Plus any extra CPU grunt needed.

I buy Nintendo consoles to play games exclusives. However if in the future given the choice...like Tomb Raider on either Switch or PS4 and the only difference is cosmetic in pixels, all else being equal and runs at 30fps. I might get it on the switch especially if I have some travelling coming up.

Yooka Laylee is the perfect example of a game that I will buy on the Switch.

TBH I think I would as well. I bought the Vita on the basis we might finally get to play proper games on the move but sadly it was not to be. I have my PC to play at home and I will be selling my PS4 to pick up a switch. PS4 has been used once in 15 month to play Horizon and it sounds like a hairdrier so the money off of the switch is a welcome bonus.

£275 for one game probably is too much but in 8 weeks we'll have Mario Kart as well, and longer term I don't see why there can't be other good games, not just from Nintendo but the Indy crowd as well.
If this sells well you can be sure that 3rd parties will develop for it, outside of iPhone and Android gaming its the only serious mobile gaming device on the market.

im not a mario fan though.

im tired of mario games tbh and only interested in zelda.

Too much money for a zelda game.

And it could suffer the same fate as the vita

Times have changed. Not many game on the move that much anymore and when they do its just quick pick up and play games on there mobile devices.

The specs o the switch is no better then ones you find on a google pixel or iphone...

Why are people going on about playing "a game of this calibre" on a handheld/tablet? Get a vita and play all the Final Fantasy games. Or a 3DS with dragon Quest. There is a bit too much hype with this machine, at the moment! If it gets a good steady stream of good games, then fair enough. Until then its a games console with one incredible game, and a load of tat. I mean Streetfighter 2? Bomberman?. Games I played 20 odd years ago. As a mobile gaming device there are other machines that have loads more games.
