*** Nintendo Switch ***

Why are people going on about playing "a game of this calibre" on a handheld/tablet? Get a vita and play all the Final Fantasy games. Or a 3DS with dragon Quest. There is a bit too much hype with this machine, at the moment! If it gets a good steady stream of good games, then fair enough. Until then its a games console with one incredible game, and a load of tat. I mean Streetfighter 2? Bomberman?. Games I played 20 odd years ago. As a mobile gaming device there are other machines that have loads more games.
yea like the android and iphones!

tons of games there and some look amazing

Loving the Switch and Zelda so far. A few gripes all I'm sure already noted:
  • Framerate issues around lots of grass and some fights.
  • Not a fan of the joy-con at all, it feels way too small and I don't have the biggest hands. Pro controller inbound I think.
  • Why oh why is there not a way of charging the joy-cons while playing on the telly? The battery just ran on mine so (a break not being an option :D) I have been forced to switch to handheld. The charge grip should have been included with the console and is extortionately priced as an accessory.

I just want to play the games on my HDTV, as per any other home console. A glorified tablet with poor battery life doesn't really appeal to me.

Surely I'm not the only one who would prefer to use the Switch as a conventional home console? I can't honestly see it ever leaving the dock.

Pretty much exactly how I intend to use it. Having the portability is handy though, for example I was watching Soccer Special this afternoon on the couch with Zelda on the Switch in tablet mode. Happy days.

I can do that with the Wii U version. As for gaming on the move. I'm almost 40, I think I can sit for a while and not have anything in my hand lol.

Why is this thread full of switch bashers? And not people chatting about how they're actually enjoying their console ? :p

Welcome to the internet, a place where people give a game a 0 because they don't really like it. Where people review a console that doesn't fit their needs but feel they have to tell everyone else what a mistake they have made.

Ugh. Do they not have anything better to do ? Let people enjoy their purchases (which I am very much so) and stop banging on about how "we've all made a terrible mistake buying the switch" we get it, you don't like it.

Anyway.. back on topic.

If Mario had come out as well, I probably would have bought one. Tbh the portability thing of it, I don't care about. Just not enough good games yet. I'm only moaning because I bought a Wii U(we all know how that turned out)I don't want Nintendo to make the same mistakes, and this release hasn't filled me with much confidence. I did buy Zelda for the Wii U and it is amazing.

Fair play. I see why you might be a bit reserved when pondering about purchasing a switch. Personally, I've bought it for the kids for mario kart. But as that doesn't come out til next month I thought I may as well get some use out of it and get Zelda.

Honestly. Before I actually played it. I didn't think it'd live up to much.. but I was proven wrong. It's a great bit of kit. Even if I don't care for the portability either tbh. Zelda looks and plays great in the tv

Its always the same now. You only hear from people who dont have one and have no intention of getting one or people who dont like it. The people who DO like it are busy playing on them!

Forget the charging accessory, just get the pro controller as that is the most comfortable way playing Zelda. Pricey but great pad.

Bit difficult to call it discontinued when they have just released Zelda on it yesterday. Whose to say they won't keep supporting it for a little while at least? As things stand, the Wii U is much better value for money over the switch imo.
Wii U has been officially discontinued. Nintendo stopped making them. There at most will be a handful of games left to come, if that as far as I know.

Yep that's why I said it :) The Wii-U will have a very limited games release run now. Seems pointless to buy unless you really want to play the older games and if that's the case, I'd give it a little more time for people to see and drive the prices even lower

Maybe someone will come up with a better term for it but after spending some time with the Switch I'm surprised how professional the whole unit is. The system itself feels like a quality item and the interface is nice and clean. I think it might be the best in term of quality of design and manufacturing that Nintendo has done. With the grip the controllers themselves fit really well into the hand and due to that I really don't see the point of the pro controller now.

Wii U is dead.

1 - it's replacement just came out.
2 - it's production has stopped.
3 - you can't get a new one from retailers anymore, they have recalled them all. Only on official retailers and used can be had.

Officially it is dead. TBH the 3DS is too.

The 3 points may be true but it's not exactly dead when it plays the only game the switch has (not counting the other dross available at launch) at pretty much the same graphical fidelity. If I didn't have a Wii U I would probably get the switch but getting a switch to replace a Wii U at present is pretty pointless. Unless of course you are desperate to play Zelda on a train etc. The other thing I've noticed is the next big game to release on the switch is Mario Kart 8. Really? I've had that game for nearly 3 years. They really should have had a better launch line-up imo.
