I agree. Frame rate performance is a non issue. Whilst playing the game I am not sat there thinking christ, I wish this was running smoother.

You get some slowdown, but it does not detract from what is becoming the best game I've ever played.

I still prefer playing in Docked mode on my 65" OLED than in portable mode :)

I actually came here to mention that Digital Foundry tested the 720p docked mode, and found it was still internally rendering at 900p and then downsampling to 720p so it doesn't help with the frame rate.

I said before, in the long run for games built from the ground up on Switch I don't think it'll be a big problem. Mario Odyssey is supposed to run 1080p/60fps locked.

Zelda was developed for years and years as a Wii U game and only recently ported over to Switch, hence the framerate issues.

It's still an amazing game.

hehe, that is equally stupid of them. I mean I'm using the Wii U, I've tried playing it just on the pad a bit while I had other stuff on big screen and it's just uncomfortable. I don't like looking down all the time to play, though Switch can do the desk mode if you want. Just for me handheld is inherently uncomfortable and worse.

Has anyone moaning about the frame rate actually played the game?

It slows down ever so slightly occasionally. It barely detracts from the game. I didn't see all this fuss about Fallout 4 on PS4.

Witcher 3 on X1 ran worse than Zelda as well and it wasn't particularly attacked on here.

You're mixing up two ENTIRELY different situations here.

One is a single system and it's working how it works with no other option. It's still not great but it is what it is for FO4 on PS4. We're talking about Switch... in both cases.... using the same hardware.... and giving a worse experience with frame rate drops. It already knows how to render in such a way as to maintain a fluid 30fps and they are actively choosing not to do so. YOu don't know that at a lower resolution the PS4 would actually run smoother, FO4 had various effects and in particular some shadow issues that killed performance full stop, on powerful PCs too. SO it may have had frame rate drops even if rendered lower meaning there was no disadvantage to running slightly higher resolution.

But again here with the Switch we can see for a fact that at 720p it can maintain 30fps perfectly, and at 900p it can't, this is not even slightly comparable.

As for if doesn't detract, frankly I call bull, yes the slowdown are likely much worse on the Wii U than Switch in docked.... but slowdown is and massive frame rate drops of 1/3rd are not invisible to the eye and are incredibly distracting, when once again, they know for certain that rendering at 720p would work perfectly for them.

So again, its not an essential, its just your preference and just an essential for you. A large majority of Switch users get on absolutely fine using the joy cons in the grip as intended.

The pro controller is simply a better option. It's essential in my opinion, just like in your opinion it's not.

Obviously I'm going to be commenting on my own personal opinion, given it's me posting.

I have only seen it briefly, it doesn't detract no and it's not bull. :D

Looks and plays great on my TV. Handheld is great too but I prefer it through the TV with the pro controller, which is essential in my opinion :p

ok so only had my switch 4 days and I have a dead pixel on the screen already..

Spoke to the shop i bought it from and they told me to contact Nintendo who can fix it over the phone... yeah like to see them try. guess I am going to have to take it back.. was just about to sell it as well.

.....why were you about to sell it?

My new Switch has zero visible dead pixels or dirt or whatever was wrong with my first. Can get around to playing :)

Still a major oversight not having save game transfer.

.....why were you about to sell it?

Bought it out of curiosity on Sunday as was taking a trip to the toy shop with my daughter and they had one left.

As usual i buy tech and then regret it as I can never see myself playing it enough to warrant the price. Although seem to be enjoying zelda but once that's done it will just collect dust.

for reference pic of the dead pixel top right section of the white box

The frame drops on zelda don't bother me but I can see it would be annoying for some.

The thing that confuses me most is it appears to be random, it doesn't happen in the same places at the same time, but randomly in grass.

I was wondering if perhaps the console was doing something in the background that was causing slowdown rather than related to What's on the screen?

This is so dumb of NIntendo, if you're getting 30fps in handheld and drops to 20fps on docked, they should have just made it the same res, pure tv output, and kept the 30fps in docked mode. A hybrid console that has the extra costs of hybrid... that runs worse in it's supposed higher power mode because you up the resolution and make the experience worse.... who the hell thought that one up.

Is a shame it's not locked to 30fps (or more) but as others have said if Zelda was built entirely for Switch only it might have been a different story, I'd love it to be 60fps with higher res. textures but it ain't. Still looks beautiful, some of the sunsets, vistas etc. are amazing.

Moreover it's just a fantastic game, is annoying when it gets choppy but is massively outweighed by the fact it's so good, best game I've played in the last couple of years.

Do you guys reckon Nintendo will roll out a service linked to GeForce Now in the coming months? It would make sense given the sluggish performance of the Switch while docked. Im starting to wonder if this is part of the Nintendo master plan.

I remember back in the NX rumour discussion threads cloud hardware was mentioned a fair few times.

Would be even better if we could use desktop GPU's over a LAN to give the Switch a boost, but I don't know how that would work.

I think we can put the frame rate issue aside by agreeing that (a) it is objectively crap from a technical perspective as this is supposed to be demonstrating the hardware, who OKed it looking worse when docked?? but (b) it's immaterial from a gameplay perspective, for Zelda anyway, because it is.

I didn't notice it at all when playing in portable mode but, again, I soon forgot to care in docked mode.

Not at all? That law only seems to cover faulty products. If you buy and download a 3DS game for your Switch, or you purchase a game (somehow) without a internet connection then that's your problem.
