*** Nintendo Switch ***

I REALLY like the sound of the switch, and find myself wanting one (which is rare for a brand new console release for me) but something is telling me I will regret it if I buy one...
Zelda looks awesome, it really does but I get the feeling that behind the flashy looking hardware is an overpriced, underperforming and poorly built bit of kit :(
I will reserve full judgement until I try one out though

It is under powered as a home console but it is SUPER powered as a portable.

There is no portable console or tablet with this kind of power, it's better built than the 3DS (which I paid £200 for), this is £80 more....seems like a bargain?!

I think the closing remarks on the IGN sum up how I feel about the switch. It tries to be a home console and a handheld yet is not good at either. For me I think it's terrible as a home console, it just doesn't have the power (I've run into a lot of frame rate issues) and at the moment doesn't have any games other than Zelda. It is better as a handheld (portable) and more than powerful enough for the size screen etc and Zelda looks nice, however it's either too big or too awkward imo to be a 'handheld' and it doesn't feel comfortable. The positioning of the right stick feels awkward, uncomfortable and really not nice to use. I therefore find I need to use the joy-cons in the docking pad thing and place the screen on a table. That actually works well but of course you then need a surface to put it on and therefore is not then a handheld.

It's a better effort by Nintendo than the Wii U (wouldn't take a lot) but I just can't see it being successful after the initial burst of sales.

I am not surprised it does not have the same power as a PS4, for 1 thing, it can be running on USB-C, not off the mains, and in terms of heat, if it is of PS4 level, it just simply would not work.

For kicks today I used it as a mini TV to play Zelda whilst watching TV. It works great, and when i was done, put it back in the dock and it connects, no faffing about. They got the tech for that perfect.

Too expensive...
The dock is a plastic box, the screen is plastic and it's uncomfortable to use unless you buy the pro joypad, thus relegating it to "tiny desktop" status

It tries to be both portable and home console but fails at both

Your opinion and most others would disagree.

Of course the dock is plastic, what else would it be made of?

I don't think its uncomfortable to use at all.

IMHO its well priced for what it can do, especially when a 3DS XL is £200 and that is just a small low powered handheld. This is a full home console that can be detached and taken on the go without even interrupting your game.

It's not in the slightest uncomfortable. The Vita was "uncomfortable".

The dock is fine for what it is, the only interaction one has with it is to plonk the switch in it for charging / tv. 90% of the time it sits there looking unobtrusive.

The screen being plastic is fine. You can barely tell the difference between it and an iPhone 6S screen. Unlike gorilla glass, it won't shatter at the first sign of a fall either, which is better suited for a console likely to be handled by children.

It works acceptably for both console and portable use, of course there are compromises on either side but the fact it balances both so well out of the box is superb.

I don't think it will be long before a horizontal dock is released soon, and the 3rd party will beat it to it first. It's "only" plastic really and not that much tech to it bar a few ports and an LED.

Then it will solve some complaint.

One complaint I do have is I can't seem to figure out how to wake it up from sleep mode from the Pro-controller when it is docked.

I just press home button and that works for me.

It looks to be incredibly poorly built.

Plus, as usual with Nintendo devices recently, it has absolutely nothing to play on it unless you are completely enamoured with Nintendos own IPs, which I'm not.

I've had all of Nintendos consoles up until the Wii U, so nothing against the company, but their own games have never interested me.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I have been eating bread up until now in my life, nothing against it, never really liked it, not going to buy it any more :p

As a mobile device I think this thing has great potential

The launch lineup has been sparse at best, I picked up Zelda and Bomberman and I'm quite happy that those will see me through until Mario Kart in April, after that who knows.

From a software perspective even if they had waited until Mario Kart was ready it might have been better but most console launches of late have seen poor launch titles, last thing I can remember launching with anything really good was Maro 64 on the N64 back in 1996 or maybe HALO on the original Xbox. Point is the days of a large and good launch title line-up are long gone, Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft are all relying on the hype of new hardware regardless of games to be enough to push Day 1 sales which to be fair to them seems to work...

I think its fair to say that generally if the Nintendo IP's don't interest you then history would suggest this isn't the console for you although I'd love to see much wider 3rd party support than previous machines got and this thing running on what a fairly generic Nvidia Chip might make that easier.

Mario Kart in April, Rime in May. Along with god knows what other Nindie stuff comes along.

Can't think of more. Need coffee.

Compare the Switch to the 3DS... it feels like a bargain considering how much Nintendo still charge for the latest version of 3DS (and also considering what the 3DS was originally priced at for the older models).

Also here's another AngryJoe video:

And this is why I still hate Nintendo's guts (watch the end of the video, I'm not talking about the game). Nintendo are hacking off their own legs by not allowing people to talk about and show off their games. Heck, only reason I own a 3DS is because I saw a Pokemon let's play on Youtube that made me want to play the game. He's also just released a video as to whether he'll do a Zelda review or not. I've not watched that yet, but judging by this, I think he's had enough and he won't even bother, I wouldn't blame him. What's the point if Nintendo pulls this again? A shame, would have been cool to see him dress up like Link. I guess Zelda doesn't need a review though, since it's one of those few games that's so good, you don't need to wait for reviews.

They've not changed at all, they're still the same old money-grubbing douchebags. Just as well there is no video capture on Switch yet, they'd probably issue Youtube claims on 90% of those videos. It makes me glad I haven't bought a Switch and the console itself isn't even that bad. Good games, let down down by a terrible company behind it.

Personally I think the switch really will do well. Zelda and christmas' Mario will sell it. As a handheld it is exceptional. I don't get the discomfort in handheld mode. I've largely played Zelda on handheld with the joycons connected and been very comfortable.

If/when they actually announce it as the 3ds replacement, you should see the DS devs working on all sorts. Then it will do well, if it's left in no mans land it just won't imo.

Ive bitten the bullet and managed to get a brand new one for £260 off of our MM. Sold my Ps4 to help fund it as Ive only played Horizon since Blodbourne was released. Im now streamlined with a Pc for proper gaming on a nice monitor, my new 3ds xl for on the go and the switch for around the house and a bit of fun. Really looking forward to it.

Enjoy it! I got too keen buying two, one for my gf to play Mario Kart but she wasn't overly fussed. I only really play my PC these days in terms of other devices, PS4 hardly gets touched unless it's FIFA.

As for my "other" (grey) one, It's been a great device for stop start play. I've put in 30 mins on commute, 20 mins during preparing dinner etc. I do get the looks on the tube but more curiousity not the criminal looks insinuated by that guy from a while ago.
