*** Nintendo Switch ***

I spoke to a colleague yesterday that was a self-professed gamer (~22) who had mentioned playing games all weekend, so I brought up the Switch and she drew a blank 'oh I see that on the BBC website what is it?'

Interesting... maybe it's not such a household name any more..??

For me, this console has been initially bought and known about the die hard Nintendo fans. As they've bought it. The people around them will gradually find out about it. Slowly building interest.

This is why I feel that Nintendo have gone for strategic game releases rather than releasing all dem games straight away. Also having such a strong title as the release title as well was a solid move.

Otherwise they'd have all these games on the shelves gathering dust as the console has a big momentum to build back up after the Wii U flop.

Slowly slowly catchy monkey!

It makes sense to me anyway. :O

My 11 year old brother hadn't heard of it till it had been released and now all his friends want/are getting one.

Same thing with tablets and phones, as soon as one kid has one and takes it to school they'll all be bugging their parents for one.

My 6 year old came back from school yesterday saying a couple of the kids were discussing switch and saying they wanted them for birthday/christmas. The word will spread and no doubt the 3ds will phase out.

I alsovhave an Xbox One and PS4, and as great as they are the next Fifa I buy will be on Switch (unless they completely ruin it) so I can play at home and take it with me.

I know it won't look as good as on the other platforms but that mobility aspect is a real differentiator.

Not a pokemon fan personally but if they launch one for this it'll sell massively.

Reading more sales reports. The Switch continues to do consistently well pretty much everywhere! A great sign :)

Yet my 18 year old cousin was the opposite, he had one on pre-order. Though his dad may have been an influence from that POV (as he was me, buying me my first NES :D ). But it was him who was more excited, typical 18 yo that spends far too much time on BF, COD, Skyrim etc. Oh and also mocked me for buying a Wii U.

And yeah, Nintendo just need to announce the 3DS end of life, move on and get this thing selling like hot cakes. If it can get even close to the 3DS sales we could see some awesome games on this. Though the only problem is it doesn't seem quite as portable or as robust as previous Nintendo handhelds.

Am I missing something with the Amiibos? Seems like a lot of people have bought them but from what I can tell, they're ridiculously overpriced toys that don't actually do anything of consequence?

Certain Amibo give certain bonuses in certain games. In BOTW if you buy the Epona Amibo for example that will give you Epona in the game :P

I worry if the sales are going to be maintained though, I can't see many people rushing out to spend £280 and then another £50 to play ARMS which is an upgraded Wii Boxing.

MK8 will likely move some hardware, but the way I see it sales are still going to slow a lot.

The selection of games is unprecedentedly poor compared to the past couple of generations. I'm actually a bit miffed there isn't any decent multiplayer game buy yet - I am not buying 1-2 switch. They really should have Mariokart out at the very least and that's just a port!

And that's the issue no big game now for almost 2 months, it's only going to ride the Zelda hype for so long.

ARMS has no release date, neither has Splatoon 2.

Could you imagine the scope for the Switch (despite the problems it has), when they start to release "Pokémon case version" bundled with the "next" Pokémon game etc?

Such games will easily sell the console, even if the games are crap , the market is just massive.

E: Not saying Pokémon games are crap - I like them but just saying if they are crap in the eyes of others.

It reminds me of the N64 launch in a way but at least there are another couple of interesting titles out there.

Bomberman is Bomberman so the multiplayer is great on that plus from all the reviews it would appear Snipperclips too is a fantastic multiplayer game.

Also totally discounting 1-2 Switch is folly if you ask me, I've played it with my mates and every one of us have enjoyed it! Some great games on there, particularly Table Tennis and Sword Fight, great fun!

Also you mention Mario Kart being a port but at least there's been some amendments to the way it plays by bringing in double items and a proper battle mode. Plus it's out in April so not long to go.

Splatoon 2 lands around June as well does it not? So it would appear there is some multiplayer games there right now with others coming shortly.
