*** Nintendo Switch ***

Agreed. What i'm interested in is whether the Switch will end up home to a tonne of pick up and play handheld style games and the occasional big hitter from Nintendo, or whether it will get a decent selection of meaty home console titles too. The former is great, but a lot of people want Metroid, F-Zero etc etc as they're what made Nintendo the name they are today. I don't see it getting good aaa 3rd party support fullstop, but would love to be proven wrong.

Honestly I don't mind if they aren't able to get the next big AAA title from a 3rd party developer, I think the ideal situation is to have an Xbone/PS4 + a Switch, you won't really miss out on much that way. For me I've got a gaming PC and PS4 so that takes care of a lot already, I've always been a big fan of Nintendo games but been unhappy with how they've been doing the home console for so long I've not bothered.

If Nintendo can get the 3DS and WiiU developers consolidated onto one platform then it's going to be a guaranteed runaway success. I'm looking forward to the first Pokemon game on decent hardware and it will be playable on a home TV too.

Always wondered why they haven't already, you just know if they released a beast Pokemon game it will clear up.. it's the one frustrating thing about Nintendo, the most simple and logical things seem to be ignored to do obscure things. Why keep releasing it on portable console when your home consoles could do something incredible, at least we can finally hold out hope they make an awesome Pokemon game for the Switch.

The most logical thing to do is consolidate their platforms. Whether that happens remains to be seen, sometimes I wonder if Nintendo actually want money with the decision they make.

Yeah you do think that with Nintendo, wouldn't surprise me if they fully 100% supported the DS and let the Switch bomb. I would just like a legitimate 3D Super Mario World, not like sunshine or Galaxy... just a regular 3D platformer Mario like 64, lost so many hours of my life in that game.

I'm sure 3DS will be retired at some point but is still selling and I would think the markup/profit on the hardware by this point is pretty high for Nintendo.

Switch is expensive and difficult to get hold of, why would they announce anything besides continued support for a platform that must be making them money. I wouldn't give a 5 year old a £300 Switch but I might buy them a 2DS or 3DS for under £100.

Nintendo have an install base of 64m+, that's a lot of people to sell to, Pokemon Sun & Moon has sold over 13m copies to date and is still selling.

They also have form of continuing to release titles for the previous generation, a number games were released on the DS after the launch of the 3DS.

I think you'll see titles coming out for at least the next 18 months to 2 years.

That's Mario Odyssey which is coming out at Xmas.

Or if you want to play something now then Mario 3D World on the Wii U fits the bill. Is an utterly brilliant game, doesn't have a 3D overworld/castle like 64 but is a better game and the multiplayer is great fun. I really hope they port this to Switch so more people get to experience it, ideally at a lower price point as was available as part of the Nintendo Selects banner for under £20, think I paid £16 brand new from Amazon.

Exactly that. Nintendo are foolish to keep the 3DS going with the Switch around and it's only shooting themselves in the foot. Surprisingly, I've discussed this very notion elsewhere and Nintendo fanboys stomp their feet at the idea, claiming that Nintendo can do what it likes or plain just blindly supporting Nintendo's often illogical choices.

Which is why I'm super wary and expecting the worst at this E3. They need to go full ham on Switch, but it sounds as if they're still making 3DS games in 2017... they've written off the WiiU and yet the 3DS is a platform older than WiiU (i.e. they should have thought about replacing that one first)!

1.1.2 - apparently there are not many frame rate improvements according to gam explain, however you can see the colour differences. Looks more "punchy"

More expensive to develop and smaller target user base meaning lower profits. Pokemon is also more suited as a portable game - part the reason why it's been so successful. Not that it can't be successful as a home console game too, but I feel making portable a priority in the past has certainly been the right choice from a business perspective.

It's happening right now...

but that's not what's happening...

Here's the reason for that:

Remember Nintendo are a business and they need to make the monies. Making games is very expensive!. I'd like a new F-Zero too, but it's not been a big seller in the past unfortunately - life's unfair sometimes etc.

Switch is getting way more support from Nintendo than the 3DS, but there's no reason to completely drop 3DS support at this point. Especially as many upcoming 3DS games started development before software development got fully underway for the Switch.

The focus this Christmas will be on Switch, not the 3DS.

The colour differences in the screens above could be down to time of day/weather mostly, but yeah I can see them toning down the haze effect as it certainly has felt too intense on occasion.

1.1.2 was likely just tidying up the changes made by 1.1.1. There seemed to be minor issues with object culling in 1.1.1 which may have been addressed.

I'm sure Andre from GameXplain said in the YouTube comments it was just a difference in editing, not anything else.

Plenty of games coming to the Switch this year, especially from 3rd party after watching the latest Nintendo Direct.

3DS isn't dead yet either :)
