*** Nintendo Switch ***

There are plenty of indie games but thats the case for all consoles. Lack of power isn't even a slightly good excuse either. Games like BotW, Mario Odyssey, Mario Rabbids etc all look amazing on the console. I don't expect to see Call of Duty and its ilk on the Switch but I reckon the ratio of proper, well funded, well developed games to ports and shovelware is probably 20:1. Thats excluding good indie games.

Nintendo just didn't expect anything from the Switch and suddenly decided that they needed to put some effort in when it started to look like it was selling well. They now seem to be generally happy for everyone to just port their old games across and stick indie games on there.

You're missing the point with lack of power. Games designed for the XB1/PS4 can't all just be downscaled for the Switch, particularly when they are heavily CPU reliant. In that case they have to decide between making games specifically designed for the Switch or porting older games.

The games you gave as examples are all light on CPU compared to RDR2/Battlefield etc. Doom is a good example of a game that's comparatively light on CPU usage and that's why it could be ported to the Switch.

I don't expect them to release all those games on the Switch. What I do expect is for Nintendo to be putting in the effort to encourage developers to create games specifically for the Switch and to be using all their unique IP to create top quality Switch games. My point is that the power of the Switch doesn't need to be a limiting factor in creating really good, large, expansive and creative games.

Where is Metroid? Delayed until who knows when.
Pikmin 4? Nothing
New Zelda? Nothing
Donkey Kong? Nothing
Mario Kart? Nothing
Animal Crossing? Maybe 2019

I know it takes years to build a proper AAA game unless you are churning them out a la CoD but the Switch has been out 2 years and we are still missing things like a new Mario Kart or a new Zelda. My point is that Nintendo seems completely happy to roll around in the money it is making from indies, console sales and ports for the most part.

Metroid delayed because they didn't feel the quality was good enough
Zelda this year and probably next as well
Animal crossing is supposedly this year
We are getting this year
Oninaki
Fire emblem
Pokémon
Luigi's mansion
And more but I can't remember them

Metroid delayed because they didn't feel the quality was good enough - Yep, sounds like they did a quick and dirty game and realised there are a huge amount of Metroid fans who would be slightly annoyed if its not up to scratch. By all accounts this is back to square one. A few years away probably.
Zelda this year and probably next as well - Nothing to suggest new Zelda for next year and this year is pretty much a 1:1 remaster of the old game. That doesn't count as a new Zelda game in my book.
Animal crossing is supposedly this year - Fingers crossed but dev times slip and when you are pretty much in April and have nothing shown I struggle to believe in a 2019 release.
We are getting this year
Oninaki - Looks interesting
Fire emblem - Not my cup of tea and reception from fans makes it sound like a lazy entry in the series
Pokémon - Not sure about this yet but looks like the lets Go engine with nothing new or imaginative to stand out.
Luigi's mansion - See Animal Crossing. Looking forward to this but if its out this year I will be surprised.

Like I said, we have been told about a few upcoming games but literally "here, we are making this game". Not "here is some footage" or "we are releasing this in July".

Fingers crossed all these games will come in 2019 but currently the only game I am really excited about that has a release date is Mario Maker 2.

In terms of "AAA" games it's the same for me. Luckily indie games are released every month that interest me.

The backdrop is the poor sales of wii u though, so for many their ports are brand new games (not me as I had wii u)

Keeping an eye on Astral Chain as it looks promising. Bayonetta 3 as well though no definite release date. Looking forward to Fire Emblem, Pokemon and Luigi's Mansion. Not sure about Mario Maker 2. I don't buy many physical new releases anymore so that will do for me this year. Meantime I am happy will indies and reboots though the Resi games are too expensive as are some of the Final Fantasy games which look like they're full price. Oh, and I have Yoshi on pre-order.

Speaking of indies there is a Nindies showcase today, isn't there? 16:00 GMT.

This is true but that doesn't take away from the fact that they are games that are super easy for Nintendo to port over to the Switch and as a result they have just ignored things like Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, Zelda (yes this is a Wii U game, it was only late into dev that it became a Switch game as well).

I guess I resent the success that Nintendo are having with the console vs the amount of effort they have put in to make it a success. Their online is awful and their development of first party titles has been lazy yet the hardward=e and third party devs have made the Switch a huge success.

Hoping for them to announce that Cuphead is coming to the Switch. Looks like a brilliant game I would love to play.

Cuphead not up on the eShop yet :(

Waiting to see how much it'll be

Its up - £16.99

Have pre-ordered and downloaded already. For a brief moment I thought I would be able to play it early but then the "checking to see if you are able to play this game" showed up and that was the end of that dream.
