**Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Thread**

I want to know what happened to the so called 3 strike rule in this section, personally I think anyone questioning anothers purchase should result in a very long timeout. It's simply nothing to do with them.

It's not even £1250 though when you can sell your 1080 for £400, that equals £850 to own 2 of the fastest cards available over a 2 year period, it's hardly earth shattering money unless you're in a poor state financially, which is fine but don't go criticising others who have the cash to spend on a hobby everyone here is interested in.

You don't need to justify your purchase mate to anyone.

I can afford two 1080ti if I want....I just don't game enough to warrant one 1080ti sitting idle in my gaming PC until the autumn when the nights draw in and I start gaming again...

I too have been on the other end of the scale so can understand the "sober view" evaluation of purchases thoroughly...

If you want it...have it....If you don't see value in it then don't buy it....

It amazes me that people in here seem to think we care what their opinions are when it comes to our income and funds...

I care about opinion if its it harmless banter and fun, Educational, Helpful to the community, entertaining....But people constantly moaning about what others spend on his DULL as DISHWATER....

By all means moan about pricing but not about what others sped their hard earned cash on.....
Yeah, we all have our reasons and perspective does help. I could buy many 1080ti's if I wanted to. I see it all as opportunity cost and I like to make my money stretch.

Like you not gaming much on the PC currently so makes no sense to buy a 1080Ti at this moment. Already spent close to £400 for my Nintendo Switch, games and accessories for it which will keep me happy for a while. Another thing I hate is seeing my stuff devalue drastically, if I have the time and can help it I buy and sell at the right time with all my stuff :)

I don't see the rush to pre-order with nvidia directly, surely ocuk will have it available to pre-order before release day, so you end up with the product the same day anyway.
Could there be supply issues with the FE and Nvidia have yet to decide how many they will release to retailers depending on how their own pre-orders go? Custom cards will of course be coming via a different route, perhaps a little later?

My guess would be the main reason is nvidia just want the extra profit.

Pretty sure they make much more per card from board partners than they ever do from Founders Edition cards sold direct from their website. I'm sure I read somewhere that they almost always lose money on reference cards.

The whole thing just seems to me to be just another marketing strategy; making their latest ultra fast high end card look like a semi-exclusive and elusive premium product to help justify the rather high asking price. Then when those who didn't manage to pre-order but want one jump on the board partners cards when they are released and they sell out fast. It also wouldn't shock me to find out they stopped pre-orders not because they didn't have the stock, but because it drives demand when they come back "instock".

Or maybe I'm getting more cynical of big companies the older I get.... who can say! lol

Maybe. I do not have enough information. Was just a guess :)

Zotac appeared to have set the boost clock for their 3-fan based 1080ti at 1582mhz ?

https://videocardz.net/zotac-geforce-gtx-1080-ti-11gb-pgf-extreme-oc

My objection to the 1080ti Founders Edition on air is that this Ti is going to be a fairly hot card on air and no matter what secret sauce they have stated has gone into the FE cooler, having a single fan means it will be working pretty hard to keep the card cool under load at stock. Assuming you are going to run on air.

Lets not forget the recent EVGA overheating 1080 FTW heat debate and that is also a two fan card. The solution there was to increase the speed of the fans using a fan curve update.

The MSI 1080ti Gaming X has two fans on it (looking at the photo), I would think about going for a 3-fan based ti on the basis that it will be slightly cooler with less noise. Assuming you are gonna run it on air ;)

Videocardz do not know the official boost clocks any of the aftermarket cards will have.

This is why all the cards they have listed on their website have the stock FE 1582MHz boost clock listed.

Most brands will tease the cooler design but keep the boost clock close to their chest until release.

ASUS are particularly notorious at this as they wait to the last minute try to make sure they have higher boost clocks than all other brands, even at their detriment in terms of chips that won't pass at the speed which delays production levels.

Things dont need perspective it depends on your perspective. Like you said you dont NEED a 1080ti to play all the games at ultra settings a 1080 copes nicely. There will always be people that want the latest and fastest and chase FPS but then there are people who dont. A new card is like a red rag to a bull if you are an OC enthusiast. People who say its not worth the upgrade are probably right it cant be dismissed out of hand with today's prices. If you want one fine, if you dont thats fine. People go through phases. I longed at the hardware but couldnt afford it, after time I could afford it and was on the upgrade merry go round, now I`m a bit older I dont see the point of buying a card for £600, then when a slightly faster card comes out for £650++++ less than a year later after I bought the former I dont see the point in the upgrade. Thats £1250 no matter what way you look at it. That is stupid money. Gregster may not think it now but there will come a time when you may think the same.
i earn decent money too

I would be beyond shocked if that's the case. There is no way they are selling these cards at a loss. If anything they would make more money this way, which is the only reason why they would try to bring it inhouse (as it were).

Does anyone know who makes the GTX1080/Ti's etc (or indeed Titan X Pascal's) that Nvidia sell directly from their own website? I really wanted to purchase mine here as thats all I've ever known, but with my current card now sold I cant afford to not have a pre-order in... not really sure what to do for the best
