Nvidia prices the norm?

Things have slowed down loads in recent years though. Gains are getting smaller and smaller as we reach the limits of silicone based tech.

Same reason CPU progress has pretty much ground to a halt.

I'd be surprised of 3070 matching 2080 Ti performance for £400, given how expensive the 2080 Ti currently is. Depends how much progress they've made and as above the 1070 was a good match for top end previous gen.
The coronavirus may have an impact on both the release and pricing.

But that's the point. There is a big jump to 7nm+ this time. Also just look at what a new architecture can achieve if done right by looking at 780Ti and 970. Both 28nm.

Yeah. My expectation is closer to £500 and for performance, even if it does not hit 2080Ti performance, it will be within 10% and eventually catch up after a year.
 
It's only difficult to imagine 3070 matching the 2080ti because the latter is on a pedestal right now. Once the 3080 blows it away for around £550-650 then it'll be filed under EOL, and we'll all commence speculating about the 3080ti.

This is not the first time mate. It is the same every generation. People always find it hard that a relatively cheap xx70 will be around the price and performance of their expensive xx80Ti.

I remember people we exactly the same when we were talking about the 1070. Short memories or what.

Only difference this time is the 2000 series which offered less performance and asked for more money and used RT as a reason. But I don't see them dragging their feet this time. They skipped 7nm and jumping to 7nm+ and hopefully their new architecture actually worth a damn and brings some performance benefits also.

If they come back with a 3070 offering 2080S like performance people here seem to think, it will be laughable.

They need to do a lot more with new consoles coming.

I wouldn't count on a 3080 being £550 to 650

Just about every time a new GPU gen been released the price has gone up
(And this has happened for many years, even as far back in the days of going from voodoo 1 £80 to voodoo 2 £120 to voodoo 3 £160 etc)

Let just hope AMD will release something that will make NVidia lower there highend 3000 series GPU prices (But am not going to bank on this)

Yes, these prices are the norm. Inflation, cheap money (from Bank of England printing £435 billion), living wage, employment wage increases etc, have all massively increased the price of certain goods. GPU's are one of them. Extremely low interest rates means many can just borrow money to buy expensive things.

That's a very optimistic price for the 3080. The 1080 and 2080 were both around £700 so I think that's where the 3080 will be, with the 3070 at £450-550

LOL. xx70 card is mid range. mid to high at BEST. always has been always will be.

No only price guys. Do you remember when xx80 used to have the same perf of the new xx60? Yeah well we got shafted a full card with Turing. xx80 is now the new xx70. So not only are the cards more expensive, they are a full card lower in perf. No wonder Nvidia are laughing. But you get people like Gregster who just blindly pre-order regardless. So Nvidia will keep on doing it.

It costs £900 now on a blower look at the prices why would they sell a 2080ti perf at £500? The 3080 will not be £500 and no way in hell a 3070 will beat a 2080ti.
 
So if I sold my 2080 now for £450-£500. Then waited for these new GPU's come out, I could get a 3080 possibly for £600? which would be at least 2080Ti performance.

Or at least get a 3070, but nobody knows if it'll be the same as a 2080Ti, no point doing this if it's the same performance as my 2080 though.

Decisions..

But if you sold the 2080 now what would you use to run games till the 3000 series comes out ?
 
Why is it referred to as nvidia prices when AMD are hardly any cheapter

This is just GPU prices and yes, they are inflated and sadly will stay that way. The stupid mining craze exposed how much we will REALLY pay for our GPUs
