Nvidia prices the norm?

So if I sold my 2080 now for £450-£500. Then waited for these new GPU's come out, I could get a 3080 possibly for £600? which would be at least 2080Ti performance.

Or at least get a 3070, but nobody knows if it'll be the same as a 2080Ti, no point doing this if it's the same performance as my 2080 though.

Decisions..

You won’t be doing yourself any harm getting rid of your 20 series gfx card...it was always a stop gap gen...:p let’s face it RTX was never a thing with this gen...and the 2080 only as fast as the 1080ti that was 3 years old but yet the 2080 cost more...:/

Make a decision sooner or than later though...as once 30 series hits the 2080 will plummet and not hold its own like the 1080ti did and still does...

Lots of people try to time that to perfection, ask @easyrider :)

It works for me as I game mostly from September onwards...spring summer I’m out and about...

But if you sold the 2080 now what would you use to run games till the 3000 series comes out ?

Magic beans.

Load of trollop sell your card then wait 6-12 months to buy a new one or supposedly buy a cheap one as a stop gap.

Just keep the card and enjoy it.

Upgrade when you want to.

I wouldn't listen to that advice especially if it means going 6+ months without a card.

Next he will be saying he uses on board as a stop gap when ryzen doesn't have onboard.

LOL. xx70 card is mid range. mid to high at BEST. always has been always will be.

No only price guys. Do you remember when xx80 used to have the same perf of the new xx60? Yeah well we got shafted a full card with Turing. xx80 is now the new xx70. So not only are the cards more expensive, they are a full card lower in perf. No wonder Nvidia are laughing. But you get people like Gregster who just blindly pre-order regardless. So Nvidia will keep on doing it.

I don't think you understand what my point is.

Blame nvidia wah wah wah

cos amd didn’t boost their prices to match? It’s pathetic

both amd and Nvidia are *********
Dont you get it. Nvidia raised prices out of greed. AMD HAD to match them. Belive it or not if AMD came in 100/200 quid cheaper for similar perf, most people wouldn't buy it. They would think AMD is cheap, inferior, like there is something wrong with it.
Might suprise you but 99.99% of people buying Graphics Cards are not techy and visiting forums etc. They already think AMD is the "poor mans choice" and that Nvidia is "better". If AMD came in way cheaper than Nvidia then that would only reinforce that.

Nvidia have the top end, Nvidia released first. NVIDIA SET THE PRICES.

I'm not understanding your point.

If people think you are crap. Then you overpriced your product.

Then nobody is going to buy it.

Whereas had they come in cheap. Enough people would be told by others to buy one it may effect their decision.

At work I've seen folk building pcs still using Intel at twice the price. When I pointed out amd was the smarter choice they talked a out future proofing again amd is better for that.

They try anything to justify their purchase much like fanboys on here.

I have a g sync monitor. Sure I could sell that too but no I'm not going to end up £500+ out of pocket changing both gpu and monitor. So for me I can only choose nvidia until I get a new monitor and I'll choose what I think offers good value for money.

Indeed. I have been doing it for over a decade. Easyrider is even trying his best to coin the phase “easy shuffle”. Lol.

I mean it works most of the time, but not every time. Did not work with the 2000 series due to huge die sizes and RT tax.

Nah. People set the price. If people buy at higher prices, then prices keep going up. All Nvidia are doing is trying to maximise profits. I don’t like it, but it is what it is unfortunately. How the market works. AMD are no angels.

Sorry but thats pathetic. You think AMD matched Nvidia's pricing scheme to make themselves not look like a cheap inferior product?

You don't think AMD raised the prices of their graphics cards because they wanted more money due to the mining hype?

At the hight of the mining crisis so many people including myself were priced out of upgrading their rigs. I would have HAPPILY of jumped to AMD if they'd offered cards at a reasonable price point. However, they saw an oppurtunity, much alike Nvidia, and took it. Supply and demand of the product took over and they enjoyed it.

The AMD fanboyism and wishful thinking here is crazy.

But sure, keep thinking AMD want to give their GPUs out for free but evil Nvidia are charging us so they need to copy Nvidia to keep people believing their cards are good.

LOADS of people would switch to AMD if their cards were £200 cheaper with similar performance. Thats the entire point of benchmarks.

Yeah. AMD do what they do because of the position they are in. If suddenly their mindshare increased a lot and they were controlling 75% of the market, they would have guys working hard there trying to squeeze every penny out of us like Nvidia :p

Yeah, people were throwing £1300 at a 2080ti preorder before benchies where even out...

The best bang for buck for me recently has been the 3900x...it’s a staggering good chip with a decent price attached.

Nope, my 1080 (Gigabyte D5X) was £529 from OcUK; bought on 07-02-2017.

That was a 24 hr special price.

Here are the prices from a sale at the end of January that year. The cheapest was the KFA2 reference blower at £559. And this was just a couple of months before the 1080Ti was due for release which is why all these deals started appearing.

Might want to look at my signature before you call me an AMD fanboy. My GPU is GREEN. And my next one probably will be too. But yeah because I make a dig at Nvidia I'm an AMD fandoy. Good to see this industry never changes.

No they wouldn't, they'd all buy Nvidias, as Nvidia would drop their prices, why the're now price matching em.

Everybody only wants AMD to come in cheaper, so they can get Nvidias cards cheaper.

Not everybody, I just buy whatever is cheapest for the same performance, I don't care who makes it, just which is cheapest.

Nah.. I think we just want good priced GPUs.

Why don’t AMD do that and drive the prices down like white knights for the GPU industry?

I can tell you why.. cos like every other company out there, they want to maximise their profits.
