*** Oculus Quest 2 Owners Thread ***

They rarely have any decent sales. I don't think they will have any offers for Black Friday either since the Quest 2 is not long after release. You probably wouldn't be able to use the the 25% off code on games with discounted prices anyway, so it's probably best just to use it to buy a game you want.

Beat Saber is worth full price.

Thanks, yeah the voucher only lasts a week anyway and says it can't be used with other offers, just figured there could be better deals. Think I'll go for it in that case, I've loved the demo.

You mustn't be a top tier Gucci belt wearing mofo as I got

:p

Damn, so jealous! :D

So my 80 year old dad has just setup his headset and absolutely loves being able to throw a paper aeroplane and fly the blimp around in first steps.

Now i want a game for us to relax and play together. So far I'm looking at the walkabout golf or real fishing. Golf is slightly more tempting since my 9 year old son can probably then play with his grandad too at times, though he enjoyed playing bait.

Do you take turns with the golf or do you take your shots together?

Any other recommendations?

He's going to show it off to his mates now too, so oculus may get an influx of very elderly gentlemen getting headsets!

Managed to find a 10k mah powerbank that's a similar size to the pd redux, but far cheaper. I'll fit it into the back of my headstrap and just pad it out so it doesn't fall out. Hoping the missus doesn't spot it come in the post, if she does, it's not the end of the world, but it does mean we'll have 4 power banks... I'll just say that some of them are slow charging, so I've got us a better one...
Can you share which one you got? will save me spending a few hours researching them :)

Amusingly it just got cancelled due to them running out of stock! However it was the poweradd 10000mah. They seem to have a few models, this one seems to have a circularlight on the button at the top.

Not really a game as such but Apollo 11 is a great experience . My mates dad liked that one.. also liked Berlin blitz (which is free) but you need to plug into a pc for that.

Now, 80, how fit is he?..... My 77 year old father-in-law plays table tennis (kicks my ass every time) Eleven table tennis may be worth a look. It is multiplayer as well (but not on same headset)

He has his own headset.

I'll suggest Apollo 11. I know he keeps updating his PC and mucking around with it, but I have no idea if he has a decent enough graphics card. I might get him to try and do Sidequest at some point, but for now I'm trying to keep it simple since I'm not with him to try and help sort any issues. There's the ISS experience too isn't there, I'll suggest that.

Table tennis was never his strong point, he was very fit for his age (in my mind) but in this last year he caught covid, and now has a heart valve issue and his arrhythmia is getting him more and more frequent, so nothing requiring fast movements unfortunately. So definitely looking more towards seated. Combined with the fact that he doesn't have much room at all in his quarters, so would have to go to a common area to move around much. I'd rather have something that can be done seated for the two of us.

So this update for the link,
Is it just going to do what we was all doing anyway via the debug and side quest, 90hz and pixels per eye etc
Or is it expected to be a massive jump in picture quality/resolution in PCVR that has never been seen in the quest 2 before?

It's a big improvement now link is using the native resolution of the Oculus 2 and 90Hz. Just installed the update on mine ran Half Life Alyx using link and it's a night and day difference so much sharper now.

Sound good,
But when we changed the pixel per eye setting in the debug tool before, was we not just cranking the resolution?
Unfortunately I had to send mine back so cant test for myself,
Just wondered if all of a sudden the quest 2 is now a serious contender for the G2 in PCVR when considering image clarity

No that was just super-sampling. When it reached the quest 2 it was still outputting in Ouest 1 resolution. Now it's in native Quest 2 resolution. There's a new rendering resolution slider and refresh rate setting in the Oculus app now.

Hmmm tempted to get another one, I opted for a refund when I sent it back as have the g2 on pre order, I was impressed with it after I got a 3080, but if it's even better now, it maybe all I need and could cancel the g2......

Going to give a go connecting to Link to play Steam VR.

I just install the desktop app and connect via USB-C and it should work? Or do I need virtual desktop?
