Don't use torrents then.

What !! So I have to refrain from using certain software because my board is borked!! I have used torrents for years I mean years started out with Edonkey etc Never had this problem at all.

Today I was running USB monitor software and recording the packet data, when the PC locked I had data for my mouse and keyboard but the data for the wireless adapter was corrupted!!

Its the USB ports when the down/upload gets to the max 12mb d/ 1.4mb up the pc locks even faster !!!

I have had asus, Asrock and Msi boards and never ever had a problem!!

Have you tried BIOS F15t?

Just downloaded it now will try tomorrow, thanks for the heads up stulid! ;)

I wont give up until I can sort this out, if it was not for this stupid bug I would be happy as a pig in ! I like things to work perfect when it comes to my computer anything less just wont do!! ;)

I wont give up until I can sort this out

I've been using this board for a while now, and it's a great motherboard, but i think it can be prone to some USB issues. I had some issues early on with external usb drives not being detected and such things, somehow though i seem to have, for the most part, got it all worked out. Currently running F14 bios and everything is peachy.

What i also did was... i actually updated the firmware on the internal VIA USB HUB. Here is the link (the first download on the page is the one):
http://www.via-labs.com/en/support/downloads.jsp

Note though, i had to be on the f14 bios before the utility would properly detect and allow me to update (was previously on f8, and it wouldn't detect). Worth a try i guess, from what i read it has helped some people trying to use MAC OS with our motherboard. I am on win7pro x64 and no problems here now. Another thing.... i currently am only using the USB3-header next to the ram.... keeping the other 2 bottom ones empty. And using ONLY the RED usb 2.0 header for a case mem card reader, and thats it.

Regarding F15t bios... what do they mean by "fixed OC display", is something not showing right there, mine seems to be showing what i set it to just fine :)

Update!!!

FIXED!!!! Yes I have actually fixed it after 4 months, guess what it was????
The bloody firewall!!!! I have been running for 3 days no locks at all!! Such a stupid thing !!! :( AArrgghhh :rolleyes::mad:

Only problem is now I am stuck with dodgey windows firewall!! Pc tools firewall and zone alarm cause this problem on newish motherboards dont ask how or why I dont know. I have done a lot of searching and no one really knows so software/hardware issue I suppose!! Linked with USB instability!!!

Problem is now I have no firewall only windows, which I have as much trust in as a chocolate teapot!!! :(

By the way Gigabyte got back to me twice and in the end wanted me to RMA!! So happy am sorted I think, I am still at stock on Bios 15t so will see! ;)

TOP TIP "Dont give up" ;)

So, do you want to grovel and take back the negative comments about the board?

:D

If i could swear at you stulid i would!!! :D;)

I know its a good board overclocks great etc no other problems as I have said !!
Except the stupid bug I had encounted when downloading!!
But there is still something fishy with anything USB related with this board!!!
But otherwise a not too bad board, not the best as USB is dodgey!!

Now I just need to find a good free firewall that wont lock me up????

Haha least you found out what the problem was, it's kinda amazing really that you actually solved it, well done.

I would try this, it's free >> http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/ see if it works with the USB.

I'm going to be using Comodo Personal Firewall once my Kaspersky Internet Security runs out in December, then just run an antivirus along side it. :)

Why do people trust windows but not windows AV or Firewall?
To me it makes better sense to use something embedded into the OS. Never had any problems since just using the Windows stuff. Had issues with free firewalls in the past and AV, including general machine performance degradation.
Regarding AV, if come across a virus new to the scene probably nothing will help you until updated defs are released.Last time a computer I used had a virus was way back in 2001 when this was indeed the case, a new virus copied itself across the corporate network and our AV software didn't detect it. We were also the first company to contact the AV Software Vendor who then later released an update for it but the damage was already done.
Also must have us are aware of the risks and can avoid certain kinds of sites likely to have geerrrmmmm :)
ANyway, glad you sorted out the problems.

Assuming you have broadband and a router what do you need a software firewall for anyway?

That only blocks ports, not the ports that are already open!!!

Am still going strong after 4 days no locks and no firewall!!! :p

Tomorrow I will be overclocking back to 4.8+ and getting a firewall
installled and tested so fingers crossed!! Will try the comodo firewall see if thats any better!!

The USB is funny on this board sometimes I click once and it comes up as double click!! dunno at least its working 99.9%!!! ;)

I have had a problem with this board from day 1 that's never really gone away. With windows 7 freezing. I have formated the hard drive a few times tried different things. Updated all drivers to latest etc etc. It doesn't freeze that often maybe once a week but it always freezes when I'm downloading something and using my WiFi card. I've come to the conclusion that there is a conflict with the WiFi card and the motherboard. I am going to install power line adapters in my house and plug an Ethernet cable directly to the motherboard and see if these freezing issues in windows stop after doing this.
BTW I'm using all stock settings as I'm afraid it will cause the system to lock even more if I over clock. Using Microsoft security essentials as PC security also.

I got to agree USB is flakey as hell!!!

I fixed the lock but what i have noticed is my mouse which is a razer death adder is a little strange as in single click = double click when downloading/uploading a lot ?? Or I get no click at all!!

It seems the more the usb wifi is in use the motherboard misses or doubles mouse clicks as a hardware interruption on the motherboard when too much usb activity though wifi !!!

I dunno but something aint right!!! ;)

GIGABYTE sort you USB`s out please... ;)

The only issue i can say now at this point, is once in a very rare occasion the pc will not reboot properly, it will just get stuck on the gigabyte post screen and not do anything. But that only happens if i do start --> restart. A shut down then power back on is always fine.

Not a big deal, its mostly on 24-7 anyway, so when i want a reboot i just do a full shut down and power back on. It NEVER happens after a full shutdown. So it's workaround-able.

I have a sneaky suspicion it might have something to do with my keyboard or power supply.... but i can live with it.

That just sounds like your mouse is broken. I can't say I've had a problem with my usb although I only have a keyboard, mouse and occasionally plug my phone in or the odd usb mem stick.

I was thinking that also my mouse on the way out, but it was fine before June when i got the board. So its a bit of a coincidence that it only happened after new board was installed.

Clicks work fine 90% of the time so not really an issue. But I do miss the raw PS/2 interface of mice and keyboards never failed on me!! This board dont have an old PS/2 interface so am stuck!! I have a PS/2 to usb adapter for when I am repairing computers as its way more reliable than USB when it comes to mouse and keyboard!!!
