Official iPad (2012 model) Accessories Thread

Raymond Lin has proposed probably the best way to use an ipad.. a cheapo back case and a apple cover. I am considering this for when I am not out and about. For that I can switch to my dodocase.

So guys.. what buffing cloths do you use to clean it? I got some microfibre stuff from my camera bag and have been using that.

You know I am right :p

I have the first iPad since day one and has gone through about 10 different kind of cases.

Apple Case
Twelve Twelve book case
Dodocase
Hard plastic case
Silicon case
Sleeve
Leather folio
combination of screen protection + back protection (hard or soft)
Smart cover + sleeve

Dodocase is cool and will get you LOTS of compliment but it is not durable, mine has a developed a crack.

The best one by FAR is the Apple case. I have had the original iPad with a screen protector on it with Dodocase for a while, it was fine but the cover of the dodo case makes contact with the screen and rub the dirt into it. The Apple case with the ridge sides doesn't do that.

The back only case for the original iPad doesn't give you a front protection (now it does with smart cover.)

Sleeve, of any kind, sucks. Why? Because you got to take it out to use it and when you do take it out, you are holding onto a naked iPad and whilst that is fine at home, it is not convenient on the move. i.e. on the train when you are reading it and the conductor as you for a ticket. In a hurry where do you put it? yes, back in the sleeve, but where is it since you are holding on the iPad? oh, yes, in your bag above your head racking. It is a big faff.

Back cover (£5) covers the back.
Smart cover - protects the front AND give you that magnet open feature and the folding stand feature

The ridge of the back cover on the side also create a tiny gap so the cover does not rub dirt into the screen.

In daily use. I just close it and it is covered front and back. I can put it down knowing it is covered, i can throw it into a bag not worrying about it be scratched. I can use it by just opening it. It is thin. It is light.

That Apple iPad1 case was THE best overall case for the device period. I don't know why they stopped making it. The lid never made contact with the screen - a perfect WIN in my books unlike the flawed magnetic smart cover, which can and will pick up tiny metal particles over time - and that lid rests flush against the screen. Nice re-design Apple :/

I'm hanging in for the revised batches of Incipio Lexingtons, but the temptation to splash out on a poorer case in the meantime is becoming tempting.

I noticed that the dodocase has bent into touching the screen on my ipad 2, so I place a microfiber cloth between the case and the screen.

I am going to go with your method the RL soon :)

I'm thinking of doing the same. The frosted Belkin snap case for £18 is looking tempting to accompany my old smart cover. Then I'll replace it with either the Lexington or the Grip when they become available. I just don't think a smart cover and snap shield is enough protection for when it's being carried about whilst travelling.

Is this true, about the smart cover not fitting correctly on the iPad3?

No. I could do that thing where he slides it left and right (whist the back cover on) and it does nothing. Well, if will do if i slide it further to the left enough but that is obvious.

My cover does that too when I slide it but frankly, who gives a toss? It works perfectly well and is only a problem if you manually force it to slide to the left. Think that guy's making a big deal out of nothing tbh.

To be fair it doesn't take a lot of movement to get it to unlock. So if your carrying it in your bag, there is good chance it would be constantly unlocking.

I had the Lexington, (actually still do cos I've not returned it yet) But went out today and bought the Belkin snap and a new Apple Smart Cover.

100x better than the Lexington. I am no longer in the market for a case !

My other option was a Incipio Smart Feather for the back protection, but the Belkin was in the shop and a little cheaper. Feels grippy, slim enough to not add bulk, I couldn't be happier. $70 all in. OK so it was expensive, but no more messing around looking for the perfect case.

Hard plastic snap case are okay until it gets dirty.

1 - dust will get inside between the case and iPad. This is inevitable. And when you come to clean it like the 4th time, something will snap or crack.

2 - As above, they crack from the stress of being put on and off

Soft back cover are the way to go. Under £5 too and if you do need to replace it, it'll take you 4 of these before it cost the price of one Belkin.

Well if it snaps between now and the iPad 4th Gen, then it'll be getting a replacement FOC. ;)

Argh, I can't find the post with the back covers that Raymond was linking to, I've seen a few days ago, I'm going blind.....
