Official iPad (2012 model) Accessories Thread

Went down the route of Smart cover and the £5 clear back that Raymonfd Lin linked, back arrived yesterday and fit perfectly, all protected now and still retains the sleekness of it - perfect. The big cases are just not for me.

Aas have I, handling (and setting down!) my iPad with extreme care until my back cover arrives! Have also ordered the belkin sleeve for it for transporting in bags etc when I think it needs a little more protection.

Hmm...

I had a Switcheasy Coverbuddy for my iPad2 and loved it and was waiting for them to release a version for the iPad3, although I was entirely sure whether I'd get one or stick with my Gelaskin for a while.

Well I notice they've finally released the Coverbuddy for the iPad3 but it appears it's not a separate item but rather is now just a single product which is compatible with both.

Err, what?! The whole point of the Coverbuddy was that it fit the rear of the iPad perfectly. This simply isn't possible with a single product for both iPad2 and iPad3 as the profiles of the rear are totally different. If it fits the iPad3 then it's not going to fit the iPad2 snugly. Even if they made it so it fits the iPad3 perfectly and thus compromised the fit on the iPad2, which would thus be perfect for me, my confidence in them is shaken now tbh - it looks like they're just taking a quick and easy route to get products out there rather than engineering proper cases for each model.

Why don't you email them and ask why this product fits both?

I did. Got an email back saying I'd emailed the US and needed to talk to their European division.

Can't be bothered. If they can't even answer a simple question without bouncing me around different departments then screw them. Life's too short.

I'm still waiting for the STM Skinny to be 'in stock', taking forever! Apparently they have had customs clearance so should be on the way to retailers now.

Currently using it naked, with front screen protector. Bit nervous when I place it on its back though!

Finally got an email back from Switcheasy.

They're saying the new model is compatible with both the iPad2 and iPad3.

Epic fail IMO. If it's shaped to allow the less tapered edges of the iPad2 to fit, then there will be a small gap at the edges when fitted to the iPad3 with it's more tapered edges, defeating the whole object. I want it to fit totally snugly to the shape of the iPad - any gaps will just end up trapping dust.

Lazy Switcheasy, very lazy.

My cover does that too when I slide it but frankly, who gives a toss? It works perfectly well and is only a problem if you manually force it to slide to the left. Think that guy's making a big deal out of nothing tbh.

After watching the video I dropped into the apple retail store in the bullring, and they actually thought it was a big deal. Two genius bar workers compared this to their smart covers and stated that it shouldn't be sliding so easily. They gave me a new smart cover on the spot.

is there any folio style cases specifically for the ipad3 yet.
Most likely, check out http://forums.macrumors.com/forumdisplay.php?f=139

Just ordered my Cherry & Black STM Skinny, not sure if I will keep either. If I like the case I will send one back, bought both for choice of colour. Considering all the messing around I've done looking for this case I thought I better order it! £34 each, for me that's a reasonable price.

Hmm, maybe I'll try that at the Solihull store for a laugh and, if they offer me a new one, see if I can bag a different colour - fancy a change :D

Yes there is still some movement, but not to the extent where the iPad was unlocking itself when I was just carrying it around, or when it was in my bag.

Bought a Teknet hard folio case with smart built in, it does all I want, provides tough protection, access to all ports and the smart power is a bonus, and under a tenner, that's me sorted!

Got my Skinny today. I like it =) Ordered the cherry and the black. I like the look of the cherry and in this instance the build quality is better (the case sits flush with the screen and it doesn't take me 5 minutes to take the iPad out).
